    I built a computer for a coworker a month and a half ago or so, but he has since encountered a problem. I'm not sure exactly what he did, but for some reason the CD/DVD drive doesn't work anymore. The error I get on it is "CD/DVD Driver is corrupt or missing (code 39)". The drive in question, this one, has always been just a plug and play one with no additional drivers.

    I've tried copying the windows cdrom.sys driver from one of the several other computers I've built with this same cd drive but Windows stops me from replacing the driver, and "updating" it says the driver is up to date. Any ideas?

    I've uninstalled the driver and reinstalled several times, always with the same error codes.

    EDIT: FIXED.
    Error in the registry; deleted the an entry and it remade it correctly this time.

    Not sure if it's been asked but what's the best controller port for a PC? I know a lot of people use an xbox controller but is there a good PS controller port? Unless xbox is the way to go, then I'll do that.

    I just use a ps3 controller. You can connect directly with usb, or with a $2 bluetooth dongle.

    Hey! I’m just looking for a little advice on parts for upgrading.

    CPU - Intel Core i5 760 2.80 GH.

    Motherboard – EVGA p55 FTW SLI.

    Memeory = Corsair (CM3X2G1333C9) DDR3 Dual Channel 4 Gigs

    Graphics = GTX 460 768Mb 192-bit.

    I’m just looking to update my RAM to 8 gigs, or even 16gigs maybe and my GPU for about 300-350 bucks. But I’m a bit over encumbered by everything that is out now that is so different from what I built it.
    Anyone have any recommendations?

    Creating a presentation in PPT with youtube videos, the problem is, I do not want the entire videos, only like a 1minute clip within the video. Is there any way to embed the video into PPT and have it begin at a certain minute:second or save the video from youtube and edit it with some free software I can DL? It is for a fairly important presentation so I really do not want to hit start, then have to try to move to the correct spot for each of the 7 videos...

    edit: meh, maybe I should have just googled first, will try this: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/start-...nutes-seconds/

    Downloading, editing and then placing the edited video file into the presentation is totally doable. If you're using firefox, greasemonkey + yousabletubefix is a really easy combination that will place a "download" button on each video's youtube page under the video you're watching. Otherwise googling "download youtube video" will give you a million other options. From there, you can easily clip out pieces of a video in Freemake Video Converter. Really simple to use and free, will let you export in a variety of video formats, too.

    If that is the RAM you are using then it will be cheaper to buy it again and have 4 DIMMs than buy a new 2*4GB kit, you don't need 16GB for gaming PC so unless you render/edit/run vm etc then 8GB is more than enough.

    For 300-350 you can get a HD 7850 or HD 7870. I have no idea if they will have a price drop soon due to the GTX680. nVidia currently only has last gen GPUs in that price range like this (7870 is faster and uses a lot less power though)

    My system died today so I am looking at the market for systems alone as I have a monitor already, I am looking for something that will run today's games in a decent quality, I don't have an enormous budget but I realize money goes a long way with something like this so I expect some damage to the pocket lol.

    I found this system on a website I bought my last which at the time was high-quality and lasted me all but 5 years.

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/pc/range/irush.html?th=g

    What do you guys think? I have no idea how to put a system together so I have to go the premade route. Maybe you guys can direct me somewhere for a decent quality system for around the same price?

    Looking for a system that will run games like GW2 at perfect quality. Thanks in advance!

    The GPU in that system is very weak, the PSU isn't amazing but should be able to power a mid range card if you brought another. As it is it won't be near 'perfect' and probably struggle to play it at all.

    This should be better value, not sure how well that CPU is but GPU is the best novatech do in a prebuilt until £800 and is much more balanced than their other systems at that price range.

    Building your own is all I can really recommend, I found this one from ccl which appears better, CPU is much weaker than an i4 2400 though. But you get 60GB SSD and 560Ti in a £600 PC

    It's really very simple to build a pc. Unless you're either retarded, or have parkinson's, you can handle it. Assuming that isn't the case, open up your current pc, and take a look at it how everything is connected. Use google to figure out anything else that isn't obvious. It's really very simple.

    There are $10 Lego sets more challenging to assemble than a desktop computer. It doesn't require the exhaustive study of arcane knowledge passed down via the masters of a secret society.
