A system I can run the latest games at a proper quality, not asking for a monster 4 digit machine, just something I can run the latest games on for a budget of £500-£600. Or a gaming system thats decent in that price range atleast.

Read the links on the side panel on the right here, but this build is good:

Comes to £580, some of the stuff in that list may be cheaper elsewhere. It's overclockable and has a good GPU. If you really don't want to OC then you can leave out the Hyper 212 and drop down to an i5 2400 plus a cheaper H61 MB to save another £20-30 (only if you pick a 2400 though).

Case is mostly personal preference, that one isn't amazing but the site had limited options. You could save £20 or so by dropping to 4GB, you don't really need more than that for gaming but RAM is cheap enough now that most go for 8

Does anyone have a trustworthy recommendation for something that can convert flv to mp4? Everything I'm finding online has the description looking like it was written by a Chinese Nigerian prince.

edit: to clarify I do not need something that can download yt videos as mp4, I need something that can take flv videos that I already have saved and turn them into mp4.

Looking for a few good HDMI cables.

Best Buy over-charges a ton on HDMI cables, and newegg looks like it promotes really crappy cables. Need one for my cable box and another for my brobox (current one is going). Thanks.

Amazon or Monoprice. Get 1 or 2 more than you need. They are cheap cables indeed (DOA, ends break if they get yanked/twisted) but the price makes up for buying extra and then some.

I have at least 7 of various lengths of the standard MP cables and I have no issues with quality or durability. Mine are constantly unplugged, coiled up, transported, and set back up and show no wear and tear whatsoever.

Good to hear. Was reading that some people on newegg were having issues with the cheaper ones over there, but MP seems like the path to go. Thanks for the help.

Do note that amazon is less than half the price if you get free shipping (and still way cheaper even without it). MP's shipping costs are insane.

I think that's pretty dependent on where you live, I don't think I've ever paid more than $8-9 for shipping to Chicago and I usually order 3-6 items at a time.

Looking into picking up a slingbox, bit I'm kinda worried about my internet speed at home.

My home connection is RCA internet, and I get 20 down...... barely 2 up for speeds.

Will my upload speed kill me when it comes to using a slingbox?

Same price where i am. And that is insane. They are $2.22 with free shipping here. MP is $6.25 for 1, $4.01 each for 2, and $3.30 each for 5. Unless you are buying 25+, amazon is cheaper.

There's really no such thing as crappy HDMI cables unless you're unplugging and re-plugging them constantly.

Yeah, I have to move my entire PC + 360 + 2 monitors at least once a week with upwards of 5 cables and I've never had a problem. The amazon ones seem pretty disposable, but at that price it doesn't really matter I'd say.

I probably will be plugging and re-plugging a few times a month. The cost is minimal, but at the same time I don't feel like ordering new cables every few months. Always heard you can buy inexpensive cables, knew some people here would have knowledge on inexpensive vs Monster HDMI cables.

By "unplugging and re-plugging them constantly" I mean more like "violently ripping your cables out multiple times per day and then letting your cat chew on them".

    Fuck yeah, Monster difference!

Kerb speaks the truth. The cheaper the better. I've got a $2 cable i bought from amazon 2 years ago, unplugging/replugging it 10+ times a week, i've stepped on it numerous times, and just generally treat it like shit, and it still works perfectly.

    They work great until this:

When the cable is $1.50 and shipping for 1-10 is $6, you buy extras.

Can't stop laughing at the Monster Cable difference. Ordered some, with extras last night so I should be set.

So finally getting my i7-2600k build up and running and I'm looking at a CPU cooler. I'm not looking to overclock but currently have a Cooler Master Hyper 212+. Willing to switch to something else if better. Any suggestions?
