If you're swapping it in as a boot drive and setting things up, makes sure your SATA mode is set to AHCI or you won't be able to utilize TRIM. Changing that post Windows install is a pain. You may also want to check and see if there are any firmware updates to apply before you put data on it.
Follow this guide, one of the better SSD optimisation guides I've seen.
edit: actually just realized theres a thread for this question, gonna post there, my bad
So I decided to go w/watercooling. A few general question:
At what water level are you supposed to refill it?
When should you fully drain it?
Can you mix solutions? (i.e. using one solution, ran out, and use a diff type type when you need to refill)
Is there a recommender mixture or a type of solution to buy that prevents possible algae and stuff? Or is distiller water fine?
Thank you![]()
Question about OCing the CPU. It seems my motherboard (Asrock x58 Extreme) has a built in OC utility that you can OC to predetermined values (3.6 was the lowest I believe). Anyone have any experience with this, is it worth it, does it work? Or should I go with a manual overclock? Want to give my system a little boot for TERA.
Whole system is
i7 930
6gb 1600 gskill RAM
Asrock x58 Extreme mobo
HD 5870 (slightly OC'ed)
Manual clock for X58 isn't hard, it's pretty much just turning some settings off and then turning up BLCK/vCore. You could try the auto-OC though, Prime95 is good for stability testing CPU/RAM.
Do you have an aftermarket cooler? You won't get far on stock (3.6 would be too high for stock)
No aftermarket, which is what I was also looking into but not sure which route to go
I wanted to put this in the game forum but there is no RQT there so...
I got a n52te pad which I cool with, except that the only way to bind ctrl+key to a single key is to record a macro for and assign the macro, and you have to save each macro individually. Fuck doing that for ctrl, alt, and shift on every key. I'm pretty sure the new version of my pad from razer handles this (I have a Naga and love it's config), but I'm wondering if I should try a G13 out. The grass is always greener on the other side and all, and I see it's only $5 more on amazon rather than the $30 or so it used to be.
joy2key?
I currently have 8 gigs of RAM, 2x4gb. Newegg is having a sale on RAM atm and a friend was going to buy me some more ram. He wants to buy me 16gb, 2x8gb. I have 4 slots on my mb and I was wondering if there was going to be any complications with this? Would I have to completely remove the 2x4gb and only use the 2x8gb? or Could I use 24gb of ram with 2x4gb and 2x8gb at the same time.
edit: Heres what I have

and this is what we where looking at getting.

Would they work together even though they are from a different series? One is the Ripjaw and the other is the Ripjaw X.
They will work, although you will have to slow down your current RAM as the timings on the second set are higher than your current stick. The difference wouldn't be noticeable, like ~1% worse performance in games and stuff although you'll be able run more VMs at once!~
I'm updating some old Dell computer, installing XP from scratch on them. How do I find the video drivers when I don't know the card?
Open the case and look?
If it's the stock card, you could just see what drivers Dell has for the model (or enter the service code for the machine you have). Even if they aren't current versions, there are usually only a handful of options for a given model, so you have something to go on. If you pick the wrong driver, it'll just say there's no supported hardware and quit the installer.
Even better
Go on dell site say to download the drivers and write the Service Tag (should be written on the case) and it will give you the real drivers (sometimes same model can have 2-3 different card)
Driver from dell are the easiest to get imo
Until it the air is out and the reservoir stays full.At what water level are you supposed to refill it?

Once a year is fine.
You're using distilled water. There aren't different types.
You need a biocide or a silver coil.
All covered in the link.
