So I'm trying to change my Sata stuff to AHCI for my new SSD. Looking through the BIOS there is nothing that will give me this option. I can go from Main > IDE Configuration > Sata 1 Device (SSD is here) > a list of stuff that has no options of AHCI. Options are this:

    LBA/Large Mode [auto]
    Block (Multi-Sector Transfer) [auto]
    PIO Mode [auto]
    DMA Mode [auto]
    S.M.A.R.T. [auto]
    32Bit Data Transfer [enabled]

    Motherboard

Are there no other options on the menu you enter IDE mode from? That menu sounds like it's IDE config, not a mode change (which would me IDE, RAID and AHCI)

    Only date and time setting.

Advanced Options next to main also gives me nothing having to do with RAID setup or SATA ports.

Lol. I looked at that thing for about 20 sec and put it back in the drawer I dug it out of.

Oh actually, there was another pdf I missed.

Do you have some 'tabs' along the top of the BIOS? Go to Chipset > SATA config > OnChip SATA Type

Success! Chipset > SouthBridge Configuration > SB SATA Configuration > OnChip SATA Type

Thanks so much Jo! Really appreciate the help.

Unable to connect to primary DNS server

I'm having trouble connecting to the internet on my laptop. I'm getting an error reading "unable to connect to primary DNS server." This happens when I try to connect via my wireless network at home, and also when I try to connect via my smartphone. Both my home network and my smartphone are operating normally (I can connect to my home wireless via my smartphone without issue, and my smartphone can browse the web via the 3G connection).

I've verified that my laptop's adapters are set to obtain DNS automatically, and I've tried ipconfig /flushdns, /registerdns, /release and /renew to no avail.

I can't paste the ipconfig /all as I'm not posting this from the laptop, but if necessary I can manually input the necessary portions.

I'm not sure what else to try, and I can't seem to find anything helpful through web searches.

Anyone care to take a swing at it?

p.s.: This all started after installing drivers for a HP printer. I have no idea why that would affect my laptop's ability to connect to the internet, but it's the only change I've made recently and the issue started immediately after the installation. I've since uninstalled the drivers, but it has had no effect.

Is getting a single 2TB 7200 RPM HD better than getting two 1TB 7200 RPM HDs in a raid?

Two 1TB drives in raid 0 would probably have better performance but less reliability (if either one of them fails then you lose all data). Single drive should be fine for most needs, with SSDs filling in where you need ultra high I/O speeds

How do you tell for sure Xfire is working properly? I have it enabled in the ATI settings and ran a 3d benchmark which had the Xfire logo on the screen, I just want to make sure i'm getting the usage out of both my GPUs.

Should I be cynical and wait to see if I get stuttering to know its working? lol

Pretty sure my mobo does it automatically.

So for a while when I watched some youtube videos I got nothing but a green picture in the video, and now they do not work at all saying I am missing a plug in and when I try to install it, it always fails, and when I do a manual install it says it was successful but still does not work.

Am I doing something wrong or is my computer just stupid?
