That's cool, I guess. I'd rather people like you not have jobs, because you don't really want to work. That much is evident.
Oh brother. Here we go. I've been working since the day I turned 16. Full time since I dropped out of college. When the hell did I ever say I was too good to work minimum wage? I've worked plenty of min. wage jobs in my life. Starting at the bottom and working my way up. I'm at the point in my career where I should not have to. Have you seen my resume? Didn't think so. Unemployment pays more than minimum wage? Uhh, hate to break it to you, but it does. Minimum wage in NY is 7.25 or 7.50. Minimum wage is almost 11 an hour. Why would I give that up work minimum wage? It's just stupid. If someone came up to you and told you to take less money for your current position for more work you'd take it?

Part time jobs pay health insurance? Where the fuck do you live? Can I come to that magical land? They also give you retirement benefits??? Full time jobs are so easy to come by as well? Wow. Where have I been looking my whole life? Is that why the unemployment rate is so high and so many people are vying for every single position out there? As I said in my post, I rather work than not. I like to work. I liked doing what I was doing. It made me feel good about what I did. I tried to help as many participants as possible. A lot of them were genuinely grateful. Please spout less bullshit.

In all honesty the older you get, the harder it gets to go back to school even if you get this job back don't take it. You've been working 12 years, you think your job experience is gonna mean anything without the networking/letters after your name that college will get you? You at least have the advantage over at least 75% of all undergraduates that you know exactly what you want to do, I know I didn't when I started @ 18.

There's a guy in my Genetics lecture that has to be around your age, and being ~30+ in a room of 18-22 year olds cannot be easy and its only going to get harder. I mean obviously there are the people like Pierce Hawthorne on community, but you don't want to be the middle-aged guy going back to school when you get laid off the next time.

Gonna have to agree with OP here.

Im sorry but I was on unemployment for a few good months last year, and unemployment minus health insurance costs still pays out more than any $10/hr job by a long shot.... so even more is min wage.

    *edit*

Not to mention Cobra health insurance is NOT CHEAP lol

    Your move.

EDIT: Well, if that's the case in your area, I have to concede that particular point. Unemployment doesn't pay shit where I live.

And nope, haven't seen your resume'. I have a job. A secure one. I've developed a very useful and uncommon skill set. Your problem is that your skill set, while apparently impressive, is common enough so as to render you expendable. I'd work on that part in all this spare time you've got on your hands.

Archery is awesome but pretty expensive (the price of good arrows is absolutely stupid). That is one of my hobbies (recurve bow onry, none of that compound shit) and now that it's getting warm...wish I didn't live in a dorm >_> But it's a good hobby to undertake if financially possible, strengthens the arms and is just a cool skill to have/show off.

Other things to do... learn to juggle if you can't, it's relatively simple (just takes time to learn) and def. impresses the ladies. It's something you can bust out anywhere and look awesome at provided you don't drop shit. Alternatively, learn to play Go or Mahjong or some kind of fancy game. Or play online poker (can win $$ on it, if only a little bit). I know quite a few people who are all over that because it's fun as hell to them. My personal current hobby is diabolo, it's very satisfying and fun (and doesn't cost too much to get equipment for unless you get the triple-bearing one I got XD).

Edit, to further clarify: When adding in gas, parking, misc expenses while working a job it makes even less sense. As crazy as it might seem, I'm almost saving as much money now than when I was working because I'm not pumping 80 bucks a week in gas, 100 a month for parking, and probably all the other little expenses we accumulate while working a full time job.

Perspective. From yours, where unemployment > minimum wage, your statement makes perfect sense and doesn't come off as proud or presumptuous. From mine, where drawing your pennies is less than you'd make elsewhere, you come off as obnoxious and snooty with those words.

@Melchiah Fine. Let's agree to disagree. I dislike arguing, especially on these forums. I try and get along with most people as possible. Doesn't always happen, but I try.

@Zaraki - Yeah. I feel like it would be like that as it is. I mean I wouldn't mind being the older person in class. Being in school now would mean me being there on my own accord versus I should go because that is what expected and waste money. I wouldn't be slacking off and know I would work hard. The local community college has a lot of night courses though, and often times are people my age or older. Might go for that as well.

What employer is that? Honestly I couldn't name anyone off the top of my head that would. Even all the jobs I've had over the years (and I've had quite a few) none would ever pay that. It was always either get hired as full time, or work your ass off as a part timer in order to prove to management you were worthy of a FT slot. FT slots were always cherished because you got all that stuff.

    Starbucks does, I think?

Not to mention that any min. wage job you get nowadays is likely to be a pt job.

In the same boat. Learn a language, an instrument, read manga, DL everything known to man... fap, fap, fap!

But yea, it's sad that I went from over $20/hr to hoping and praying I get this gig at pizza hut....

Think i'ma kill myself soon ._./

Added: Learn to cook, saves u money and u get to make good shit.

iono I am with you on that. COOK it kills time, and when you get decent at it(hell dont suck like most people) invite others over and make some odd stuff.

Even bake. If it lasts a month longer get grilling friend. Grill food and have poker night after.

Just go out, odds are you can spend more then you are. The gym is great and I would try and go as much as you can. if the price is not to much do a class there as well to meet others.

READ, find books you like. I can kill a night just reading a random book thats been on my shelf forever.

as someone else said volunteer; I have not done this in years but you meet such nice people doing this. and if its something you like you will have fun too(I did mine at the vanderbilt planetarium years back, so much fun) and the great thing? You go when you want! lol they wont say "no dont come by" your free work and a blessing to them.

Ah . Do it, it took all of a day to learn the basics of the game.

Log onto http://www.gokgs.com/ after glancing at the wiki and you'll learn the basics quick enough by playing/watching.

It's honestly such a great game to know how to play because of how intricate it is, and how so many people have seen it and want to learn how to play. Having a board in public is a great way to meet new people.

And because it cuts across cultures probably second only to Chess, knowing how to play can be useful for breaking the ice in alot of places.

edit: Probably should have mentioned that in the regret thread, learning how to play this game during my weaboo years is probably the only thing of merit anime ever did for me.
