Especially if they live in Wisconsin and work for the state.. people gonna lose jobs and the nest eggs they've built up in pension, and if they don't like it they'll have to deal with the national guard? Thanks Gov. Dicksbag!

I feel bad for state workers like those in NJ who's pensions were government-managed, mishandled and are now worthless. I'm a state worker, but our pensions are self-funded with no contribution from the state, and are handled by Retirement Systems of Alabama(RSA). We own our pension trust fund, and it is considerable.

I'm in almost your exact situation Od. One thing i have extra against me that you dont is i was denied financial aid. Real bullshit too, I had qualified for a $5,5550 Pell Grant and financial aid somehow got that blocked too so i couldnt use it to return to school.

Some of these ideas are nice and all, but the activities listed cost money. Gas isn't cheap, college isn't free. I haven't looked over your ledgers or anything but i'm guessing by your OP that you're on a razor-thin budget as i am. Best advice i can give is just hang with it. You are most certainly not alone. I've put out around 150 apps since November and not a single call-back. It fucking blows. Your confidence plummets, and you start feeling like a failure when it isn't even your doing. Misery loves company, brother, and you have plenty of it.

Even better still, I live in Oregon, the leader in US unemployment rates. 11% or some bullshit and forecasted to rise further still. Yay?

Edit: some help i can at least give, use Indeed.com. It takes job postings from every newspaper, job site, everywhere and compiles it into this one website. The postings are updated instantly, It's not uncommon to find jobs posted < 10 minutes ago on there. It's what's given me the most leads.

Im telling you. Invite people over to your house... Going out is nice but really staying home and doing stuff with friends can be just as fun.

Can only go to so many bars/movies. I love to spend a day/night cooking/grilling with a friend or two. Hell tell them to bring the meet lol I play poker once a week its a $20 game, you could do a $10 game cheap and hours of fun(if your not the ass that goes all in on the first hand)

When was the last time you had game night? no joke I played apples to apples a few weeks back and had a blast. Im 21 years old ill do anything to have fun.

Oh god Apples to Apples is an amazing game, I play it with a group every friday night. Sometimes the jokes get old til we get new people coming and then it gets more or less fresh again, never know how new people will judge lol. I'm really kind of sad I didn't start playing it earlier.

Kinda surprised this hasn't been suggested but...

I know you said you don't really go out but why not try to meet someone (or lots of someones, if you're feeling slutty) to date and/or have sex with. It's a lot easier to sit around watching tv and playing video games if you have someone to do it (double entendre!) with

Thanks for this. Will look into the website tomorrow. Tuesday and Thursday are usually my job search days. I wouldn't say my budget is wire thin, but I definitely need to asses everything I buy (or want to buy) twice. Everything I've bought for myself in the last two months has been from gift cards from Christmas, so I haven't really had to spend any real money on anything. I still pay rent to my parents. It's not anywhere near the amount I would be paying on my own, but for the utilities and food I eat I think it's only fair.

To be honest, I haven't had a game night with friends in a long time. We iusually will do a movie night where we grab pizza/snacks etc. and just chill for a few hours. I have a poker set that is itching to be used. Thing is I'm not the type that has like 30 friends. I have 3 or 4 really close friends (which is all you need) but getting everyone together is a pain in the ass due to scheduling. Gonna try to do one this weekend. We have a place to play though. Good idea, thanks!

lol ya this might vary from person to person... Hay if its your thing go nuts.

Though to be fair, most woman wont want to just chill at your house all the time unless you are already friends with them. This type of thing could add up fast, it leads to going out and at his age odds are the woman will want to go out to eat or a bar(and ya that is not cheap lol)

yaya I got trolled but hay it was a fun post lol

Which is why you leave [insert fancy corporation/degree here] out of your resume.

Unless fancy corporation/degree was your last gig for the last 5-10 years. Then it looks even worse if you've been out of work that long.

Going back to school is the best thing you could do to avoid any false security you may have by getting your old job back. You need to think long-term and re-train with a skillset that is specialized(as previously mentioned).

After learning from my mistakes: anchoring myself in the call center industry, and then buying into the Hospital Pharmacy Technician scam(growing field! ie. growing applicants lol), I have settled on a temporary wholesaling business WHILE I am in school full-time(eating grants and banking loans). Even after I graduate, I'll still try to keep going to classes PT because I never want to feel mentally complacent or stagnant, either.

I'd echo the volunteer path. Keeps you from getting bored, plus learn new things and network. You never know who you can meet with volunteering and that can lead to potential job offers.
