I've always wondered how people get the IP addresses for these server clusters. Are they just running a traceroute or something? Is there no easy way to defend against this sort of thing? I'm not a network engineer, haha.

To defend against a massive DDOS you have to have some great hardware. We setup a load balancing server, and the only thing it did was try to redirect this type of attack at fake targets.

Edit: I say this when the only people allowed on our system are employee's. That means we can blackhole entire countries if we wished. Something PSN/Bug can't do.
