I haven't noticed this issue since I didnt do a lot of heavy partying, but... only 3 people in a party seems stupid, I can think of at least 3 people right now who are going to be playing, not including myself... and we usually play together. If we're stuck to 3 and that means one will always be left out.. puts a shitter in this game.

I don't see it as that big a problem. Party sizes are usually a fairly arbitrary number, and while it sucks to have too many, I don't really see it as that big a problem. If it was four instead of three, there'd be people who are planning to play the game with five friends who'd feel left out.

Anywhoo, 2 PM PDT till 4 there's a new game mode opening up:

The Crucible proper is all about putting your skills to the test. Iron Banner requires another crucial element: Power.

Lars Bakken knows a thing or two about competitive play: “Bring your absolute best gear because we turn on Level Advantages. That means your Attack and Defense ratings matters in Iron Banner matches.”

We’re not just giving you new ways to play. We’re expanding on the arenas where you’ll fight. “Two maps get added into the new playlist,” says Lars. “The fan favorite Rusted Lands returns from the Alpha, and we take you to Mars for the first time ever with Blind Watch. Iron Banner is the ONLY way to see these maps in the Beta.”

New maps are not the only reward for your bravery in this new competitive construct. According to Designer Leif Johansen, “Iron Banner has limited time rewards, so show up with your ‘A’ game. Losing a match may make the difference between getting that bad ass Assault Rifle or not.”

Lord Saladin will be waiting. Before you enter his domain, heed this final warning from Lars: “Get ready to kick ass. You will be tested here unlike anywhere else in the Beta.”

The Iron Banner begins on Saturday, July 19th at 2pm PDT. It will remain open for two hours. Every Guardian will receive a message when the Tower doors that lead to Lord Saladin open for the first time. Every Guardian will need to be ready.

3 Is still a small number, I mean, I know NERDS and all, but to assume you'll only ever have 2 people you want to play with seems low end.

It's diablo's gambling mechanic. Pay money for a weapon/gear with random stats.

Just curious, did anyone else find Devil's lair to be really difficult? I played with my brother at level 6 and we got matched with a level 4... so I'm not sure if that is why. Also not sure if its because we were a Warlock and two hunters (easier with a tank maybe?) But it was quite challenging (and really fun).

I don't know if there is some trick to taking down a Captain's "shield".. but those things really messed us up when they popped in packs. Lots of running/whiddling down adds just so we can 3v1 them..

I'd say 3 man fireteam of level 6 or higher would make this map easier. I go there all the time as lvl 8 warlock right now just to keep upgrading skills/weapons/armor/lovekillingshit.

Yeah, I haven't had a lot of trouble with it, but I did it the first time as a level 8, and I think the lowest I've ever had in party was one level 6. I'd say the biggest problem I've had is ammo.

Is there a way to do bug reports? Had a bounty to get a Mark of the Unbroken, finally got one, but it didn't register for the bounty..

Edit: Also, in regards to the earlier discussion:

Will you be able to carry your progress over from the beta into the main game?

The beta is a test. It's extremely unknown as to what the outcome will be. So, it's certainly not a promise or an announcement that we're making at this time. It all depends on what we learn and how things shake out. So, we're certainly not telling players they can carry their progress over, but we haven't made any announcements either way.

So we reserve the right to talk about that later.

Since I was playing with a friend last night with voice chat we got into the habit of just calling captains. Plenty of times I would unload an AR clip into his shield then call for a snipe for him to get quick crit kills. Usually 1 or 2 sniper rifle shots would put them down quickly. He would be working trash until the call, then I rotate onto trash once shield fell. Warlock gravity bombs also tend to be very strong for eating up shields quickly if you know captains are coming.

I also got pretty use to flushing enemies out into the open for him so he could snipe them off.

I did it with 2 randos and no headset, each of us at level 6. Definitely wasn't easy, each of us died a few times.

Suddenly I want beta to carry over: got a legendary ship and a legendary hand cannon in back to back PvP matches lol.

Only did like 5 total because I don't find it especially fun though. I like running/gunning but it seems everytime I turn a corner I'm getting ult'd to the face. And why does everybody have a shield and I dont!

Destiny won't have cross platform servers (3 to 4, 360 to 1) because of screen resolution, player characters confirmed to be your primary in sequels
Destiny doesn’t allow cross-play between Xbox platforms and PlayStation platforms, and that’s understandable: the platform holders are to blame for that. But why doesn’t it allow cross-play between PS3 and PS4, or Xbox 360 and Xbox One?

According to a recent interview with Bungie engineer Roger Wolfson it all comes down to providing an equitable experience on all platforms: the older consoles just can’t match the resolution of the newer ones.

“I’ll speak for the hypothetical player. I have a disadvantage sniping across the map because [my opponent with a next-gen console] is only two pixels on my screen and I’m four pixels on his,” Wolfson told Digital Trends.

“You see that in the world of PC gaming, where people are always racing to the best video card to give themselves the advantage. Regardless of where the reality is, there’s definitely a perception among gamers that better hardware means you have an advantage. We don’t want to have to enter that fray, so to create the best, most level playing field, both actually and perceptually, we separated it by platform.”

But if Bungie’s insistent that the platform barriers will remain in place, why is it that Destiny characters are cross-generational?

According to Wolfson, it’s because “a decade from now when we’re into the later sequels” you’ll still be able to use the same characters you created for the first Destiny.

“Our goal for Destiny is that each time you play it, you’re going to have a different experience,” he said.

“Not just because of the social interaction, and the fact that you can play with different people, but because your character is growing and will have different ways of playing the same content every time you go back and replay it.”

Meanwhile, Bungie is working hard to make sure the game won’t become unfriendly to beginners when these hypothetical sequels manifest.

“Let’s say Destiny 2 [and] Destiny 3 are out, and we have new players joining the fun. [They] want to play those new games alongside those who have been playing Destiny from the beginning,” Wolfson said.

“[We want to ensure] they won’t feel like they’re four years behind. And then, if they want to, they’ll be able to go back and pick up the old content on their same character. So we’ve done a lot of planning for how that’s going to work, to not make people feel like they have years worth of levelling up to do.”

PS4, and probably XBone, locked to 30 FPS
Exploring the gloomy, interior areas shows off the game's dynamic lighting in the best manner, with lens flares and light coronas still making the grade. Little has perceptibly changed from the alpha in this area; character shadows blend seamlessly with the scenery, while all objects benefit from ambient occlusion to add depth. The faint dithering to our character's silhouette is still in place from the alpha; a minor blemish to an otherwise impeccable lighting engine.

Its strong visual assault aside, Bungie's alpha experiment wasn't all smooth sailing. In fact, we noticed at the time a locked 30fps read-out from our tools, with the average frame-rate showing little threat of dipping to the nether. That said, in practice the game clearly feels less smooth than it ought to, and this is where the principle of frame-pacing comes in.

Unfortunately, the beta version of Destiny continues to show signs of an uneven spread of frames, which while averaging out at the promised 30fps, produces a judder sensation to lateral camera movement. As a shooter played largely from the first-person view, the camera pivots more aggressively than most games, making this issue easier to pick out. It's very much playable, but we feel Bungie is doing itself a disservice given its in-house engine is clearly capable of pushing out a rock-solid frame-rate.
