3 had Vetos but you couldn't pick what you'd get instead. Reach had the "choose one of these options" system, I think.

3 gave you a map and gametype, if you vetoed, you got forced into the next. Reach gave you three choices or veto all and then gave you three you had to choose from (I believe). Regardless, Destiny needs some form of it.

You only played the beta for an hour, so your second sentence is immediately invalidated. The beta was *huge* and had plenty to explore.

Yes, but it will be available to all in like, six months, confirmed by GameStop.

The only time I've felt it was grindy was from around level 5 to 8 or so -- and that's because I wanted to do all the missions on hard and wasn't developed enough to do the Crucible to level.

I got to LV 5.5 last night; still haven't died which I find impressive given I haven't played an FPS in 15 years.

    Quick impressions:
    • I am glad I chose hunter; mobility is great and the knife is OP. May consider Bladedancer at 15 even though I thought I'd prefer the gun.
    • Definitely enjoying the game. It's really refreshing coming from your standard MMO background with GCD cooldowns and whatnot. It's just a rush.
    • I really wish I had videotaped my reaction when I entered the pitch black "cannot resurrect" zone of the Wizard fight and the mob of knife-wielding crackheads (Thralls?) came rushing down the stairs. I completely spazzed out and threw a grenade off the ceiling that actually ended up killing all of them.
    • Boss AI is kind of retarded thus far. Every boss I've seen has been in a designated room and it doesn't seem to ever leave that room to chase you. I've won every fight by just standing at the entrance to the room, edging in and out to drop adds, moving further in to damage the boss, running back to just outside the entrance to recharge my shields as necessary, and basically repeating. If the boss would chase you for any significant distance, it would be a very different deal.
    • The tutorial should be expanded for people like me who came in with like no idea what the hell was going on. The dashing slide into cover was something I found by accident. The whole Cryptarch / engram thing is not really intuitive or explained. etc.
    • I was down on the gear for a while, then I finally got a Green body piece with +13 STR that makes the knife recharge faster and I was satisfied. Pretty good balance on the rarity factor for significant gear upgrades; makes it feel special.

    Questions:
    • What are the bounty rewards? I did two last night and felt like I got something other than XP, but there's nothing in my inventory.
    • Do engrams drop from the final boss or are they a random reward at the end of the mission? I got a green one last night, but couldn't remember where it came from.
    • What is the point of hand cannons? At the range they are effective, a dash + knife seem superior to me; insta-kill generally and you can keep your high magazine auto/etc. at the ready for clearing multiple other mobs. Maybe that's just because I'm a hunter. If a hunter effectively uses a cannon, I'd like to know how/why.
    • What are the rewards for the public events? I've joined in two and feel like I've gotten nothing each time. Do you have to fully kill the boss to get anything?
    • Is there any reason to not dismantle basically all old gear after I've found an upgrade? Keeping certain weapons I can appreciate; talking more about body armors.
    • Can someone walk me through 1) the party creation, and 2) being able to talk to said party via headset? I've seen the menu where you can invite friends to your strike team. Let's say I invite Ratatapa and he accepts. Do I then go to orbit, select the mission we want to do, and he gets a prompt to accept? Then are we automatically able to chat or do I need to do something for that? (assume headset is on and setup correctly)
    • Can you invite someone to do anything with you (e.g. bounties, repeating basic missions, etc.), or is it only for strike teams?

So, how does loot work? I know I saw a post about it earlier in the thread...

Can I run Devil's Lair multiple times a week and get more loot? I'm assuming the last chest under the last boss will not appear again.

    I want to "gear" up

Iirc they help charge your super ability faster, you see them glowing on the ground when killing mobs while your ability is active.

Is this game as great as the huge thread implies?

This might be my trigger to get a PS4, I've been looking to get one for a while but my fiance and I are in the middle of closing on a house and money can't necessarily be thrown around too much. It'll end up being bought on my amazon card (which has a zero balance woo).

I do have a PS3 currently, but it has been collecting dust forever and I'm not sure it is even a wi-fi model (which will be a must in the new house). I'll probably end up trying to eBay this.

Red Sparrow code is on your FINAL/PICKUP receipt from GameStop. At level 8, and for 2-3k Glimmer, you can buy the same type of speeder.

    Gonna briefly answer questions.

Get it on PS3, Boyiee! Join me! It'll be like when we played XI together (unless my memory is off and I'm thinking of someone with a similar name..)! All except the original smaller size PS3s have WiFi I believe.

Light orbs charge specials faster. You spawn them from successfully using your special, but you can't pick up your own. Essentially it adds to the "help everyone out" mentality. Chain of Woe boosts reload time. It's a hunter perk that procs every time you get a precision kill. You haven't seen sniping if you haven't done it with Chain of Woe.

You can run strike missions as much as you want (I plan to binge them once I hit 20.. in like 3 level.. and maybe after the story..). Loot is yours and only yours. No one else sees or can take your loot. As far as gearing up (gonna bold this) Save your engrams till level 20. Those scale to your level, so when you hit cap, they can really help you out then as opposed to using them at lower levels where they'll quickly become worthless.

    I'll answer your questions, Wulfgang, after I do another mission.. It looks like a long post >.>;

    Also.. rocking Sailor Moon music on Venus because I can <.<;

Bounty rewards are picked up after you speak to the guy who gives them to you. For the most part it's reputation and exp. Each group has it's own reputation (FWC, NM, DO, etc). You need to rank up before you can buy stuff from them.

Engrams can drop, pretty much anywhere. They drop in bosses, they drop from random enemies, etc. Your best bet is to save them till level 20 though (as mentioned above).

Hand cannons actually are shockingly powerful. Like, I could two shot things four levels higher than me (whereas my scout rifle took four hits). That said, I still like my auto rifles (just got a Shingen and have a Cydonia for the Crucible).

Public events, the first time you complete the objective (and get three gold stars) each day, the post robot will have a reward for you. Usually they're items for upgrading later gear. You can occasionally get rewards too. For the most part though, they're just there for fun -- kinda like the Christmas Treant event FFXI had way back when.

No, there's no reason to not dismantle old gear. Unless you're planning to make another character of the same class, it won't do you any good. On that note, your storage locker is shared between all your characters, so better not to waste space.

I've only partied up with someone once, so I'm not sure how it works on the invitees side. During the beta, Cantih and I teamed up for the moon mission. I was in the tower, and Cantih was brought into my instance of the tower, and from there, we went to the mission. Since I was party leader, I'm assuming I had complete control over it all (but I can't say for sure).

You can invite anyone to anything, that's part of the allure of the game. You want to do things with friends? You can (as long as you only have two friends). You wanna do things solo? Do things solo.
