Protesters who marched at the home of Wisconsin state senator Randy Hopper (R-Fond du Lac) were met with something of a surprise on Saturday. Mrs. Hopper appeared at the door and informed them that Sen. Hopper was no longer in residence at this address, but now lives in Madison, WI with his 25-year-old mistress.
Thought this was a smart idea

    Even better:

"Blogging Blue reports that the conservative Republican's much-younger new flame is currently employed as a lobbyist for right-wing advocacy group Persuasion Partners, Inc".

My favorite part is his wife saying she planned on signing the recall petition against her husband. A woman after my own heart!

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Their maid is signing the petition too.. And the real kicker is since he no longer lives inside the district he was elected from, he can't be on the ballot for a recall election.

Judge orders an injuction on the law due to whoever not giving 24 hours notice of the bill. Looks to be a temporary measure as once legislation restarts, they can just give 24 hour notice and vote again. That said, any feet-dragging & further attention that can be brought to the issue is a good thing.

yeah, this is a very good thing, especially in light of the Japan quake stealing so much attention from the issue. this will bring it right back into focus just as the coverage from Japan begins to scale down.

May give some republicans time to reverse there vote as well if they see the threat of a recall start to take foot.

What's the time-table/process for the recall? I've heard about collecting signatures from a % of the people who live in the voting district, but no clue about the process after that.

Also, read that the legislators are not in session till the Apr. 5th, so a few weeks before anything happens. Also are people still protesting in the capitol? Haven't seen much on the news since the bill was passed.

I think they have 60 days to collect enough signatures (25% of the number of people who voted in the election where they were elected I think), and if they have enough verified signatures the recall election has to happen 30 days after that.

A politician must be in office for a year to be subjected to a recall election, so they can only currently recall 8 (R) senators. Governor's recall effort starts in November.

It's moderate in Madison and Milwaukee - in the rest of the state it's pretty cheap. But then again I lived for 3 years off roughly 28k a year in Los Angeles, so "destitute" off 35k in SF is a bit of an exaggeration.

But still, 62k for a PhD professor is very low considering what most of those people could make in the public sector, especially for the non-liberal arts profs.

Just as a background example, the same professors here in RI would make maybe 85-90k and upwards of 150k in the local private schools. But the cost of living in this state is really friggin' high, plus it's a small state so some of the professors live in Mass which creates a two-state income tax problem.
