One of the biggest problems with these college kids who cosplay anime characters (aside from them not investing a lot of money into their costumes) is that they just decide to cosplay as whoever.

Big. Fucking. Mistake.

If you cosplay as someone you look like it kind of makes your cosplay that much more convincing. Lots of these Asians usually end up cosplay as characters they look like or can look like with some cosmetic preparations and the end up looking better because of it. Most of these American kids neither put in the time nor effort into making their costumes good. Perhaps I am being to harsh on them. I mean, cosplay is about having fun I suppose.

I agree. But usually the Asians manage to pull off the cosplay thousands of times better than the Americans. Hell, even the Europeans do a better job than the Americans.
