She's probably not very good - just tiny enough to be in a weight class where she's wrestling a bunch of inexperienced freshmen guys and/or winning by default because other teams have no one light enough to compete, just squeaking into the state tourney with barely a winning record.
The guy in question had a great record and would've dismantled her for sure (like what happened in the next round). I really doubt he was afraid of losing. Who was he afraid would make fun of him - his classmates...I mean siblings? Kid is a fundie homeschool nutjob, that's just what they do.
I don't know if that's the policy of this school. Alls i know is that it was said that this particular chick has competed against multiple men and defeated said men, and working under the assumption that chicks are always weaker than dudes, that makes her exceptional.
Cry about it.
This is apparently the second time he's refused to wrestle her:
Northrup and Herkelman were scheduled to meet in a dual Jan. 13, but Northrup did not participate. Rather than forfeit, Linn-Mar wrestled 103-pounder Alijah Jeffery against Herkelman, according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association database. Jeffery subsequently pinned her.
Why did i laugh so hard at that last sentence.
Because it's funny when women are given obvious advantages and lose hilariously anyway?
In part, and also because pinning a bitch sure sounds like rape.
He should have spent some time practicing this move
