Pretty sure you only see the end result when you finish the process. Although, you should be able to wipe the stats and try again, if its anything like the Fomor gears.

Goddaaaaamn..... How do I level Synergy in the cheapest way possible? I remember seeing a guide somewhere.
Cheapest would probably be going Smock > Stall route, if you have the apron from another craft. Stall gets you to the current cap. Skillups are slower the farther you are from the cap and you get explosions very often, but you can attempt any level synergy synth at any level.
It's still easier and faster than leveling any other craft tbh, just boring as hell. Grab a movie or a series to watch while skilling.
Just don't hit 'End Synergy' and you will be fine. If you happen to get the right elements a few times, which you more than likely will, just whack it or something until the furnace's HP is 0.
A person could still acquire skills up by going over target number, by feeding more fewells.
Ex: 30earth, 45wind, possible to get skill-ups while bringing wind/earth values to 99. This would also prevent any synth from being successful, aside the crafting stalls which have fewell targets of 99.
Speaking of Synergy, did anyone see this yet over at SE's twitter page?

Translation: Byakko's Haidate with augments: STR+6, Accuracy+1, MP+1, Damage Taken -2%. And augments can be overwritten this way! #FFXI
I'd probably also use bridge synergy synths whenever you can, if they're cheap. Heck, your aim is to skill up not to actually complete the synth, so you can just sell everything back when you're done. Taking that into consideration, you can skill up on pretty much whatever you want without worrying about the same kind of losses you get in traditional synths. Your costs in synergy will mainly come from fewell. I'd recommend making your own whenever you can if you have the alchemy skill, or have a friend make ya some and stock up. Making the NPC do your refills is more expensive.
Starting around 10 skill levels below the synergy cap you start seeing benefits in fewell feeding in that there's less impurities per feed, so overall your furnace is going longer and you can spam more.
Like someone said, you can go above the target element and still get skillups. Just pick the element of the synth that gives you less trouble if an explosion happens, stock up on that, and spam it. I like Earth and Wind more than the others. Keep Haste up and you'll never get slowed. If wind knocks you back, just get close again. Just remember getting too far will cancel your synergy attempt.
I used Mythril Nugget(50) Gold Nugget(60) and Platinum Nugget(70) before I did Stall, for example.
I thought it always resulted in break and loss of haidate. o:
I thought it was leathercraft for behemoth hides so smithing sounds weird.
