Blood in general is impure, women involuntarily excrete it so that's the reasoning. Men actually can't sit in a chair a woman on her period has occupied, and they're supposed to sleep in separate beds for that week too. I think they need to bring in the goyim for violent crime scenes too, but I don't remember exactly how that works
