Shit I think it was maybe vampire masquerade or some older game with crappy graphics, where the water was two still images moving in contrast that created the optical illusion of a water effect. They didn't have the power to create a visually accurate graphical copy of water, so they worked around their shortcomings by using an illusion to suggest what they were trying to show. Shit was amazing, I remembered it for years until the average quality of graphics of even the most mediocre game surpassed it. Can't even remember for sure which game it was now, but that's art. Art is designed to evoke a response, but not dependent on it's observer to "get it". Hence the pretentious and sometimes rediculous nature of the artistic-type persona.

What the fuck doesn't evoke a response?

    Religion is an art.
    Racism is an art.
    Politics is an art.
    Science is an art.
That dog that shit on your lawn is art.

Edit: I title that last one "Dog shitting on lawn".

you know, aside from differentiating art and entertainment, a lot of you people also need to be able to differentiate art and craftsmanship

Half-baked doesn't even begin to describe this concept, I don't think they had any intentions of preserving "art", just another addition of more pop culture to bump attendance. I'm curious who was on this advisory board and, if they weren't all corporate hacks, then what did the curator actually use them for other than a "Favoritest games evar" list?

(What the fuck, vaginas isn't a word? Vaginae? Learned something new.)
LoL you really liked that didn't you. Oh and yeah it's either vaginae or vaginas actually even though my firefox spell check is freaking out.

Don't forget the distinction between poptart and popped-art.

well, the exhibit is evolution of games and being able to show the evolution of 1 series through 20-odd years seems like a tool that helps them reach that goal.

Say what you will about modern Sonic games, the Genesis era Sonic games were solid platformers.

    Pretty predictable list all-around.
Chrono Trigger getting snubbed pissed me off, what can I expect with Zelda straight dominating the entries though lol.

Yeah I was pretty content with all of the selections with the exception of Zelda beating out Chrono Trigger, but... Zelda always did have a wider appeal so I understand it even though I didn't like it

Unfortunately most of them are dead so I'll say it for them. Fuck you. As a form of art, composing and performing a truly moving piece of music is a hell of a lot higher than painting a pretty picture, both on a level of technical difficulty (lol my art is on hard mode) and on a level of emotional response (nobody breaks out in tears looking at van Gogh).

Miley Cyrus, yeah sure, that's bollocks. But I'm not lumping xkcd stickmen in with van Gogh, so have a little perspective you philistine.
