    Skydiving

A few friends plan to go skydiving in May. Want to no if anyone has any input about what going rates are for fist timers or of the better places on Long Island/NYC are.

Every place I have called is closed, though their web pages all seem to show a 200 average price tag with an extra 100 for a video.

Any ideas/info for a newcomer would be great too.

Depends on a variety of circumstances. Are you going for an advanced free fall course, tandem, or static line jump? You'll be renting equipment as well.

    I paid $250 + 100ish for a video for a tandem jump in Nebraska.

It was amazing! Absolutely exhilarating. Well worth the price. I'm hopefully going back to do static line jumps later on when I have time.

I would definitely recommend the tandem if you're going just once for the experience. They give you a good 30+ second free fall before the chute ride.

more then likely this first time because it is with friends will be the speedy one day tandem jump, after that I might go deeper in myself.

I just got like half the people in my office to commit to jumping out of a plane dont think most will want the week long course.

but that info is all welcomed, as I very well might myself. Thanks!

that dropzone list is great too, the place im looking at has raving reviews. Number one area it seems for long island/new york

this is very much what I was hopping that I can get everyone to pay 200~ and just jump in a few hours. good to no that it can work like that.

going to have to party hard too after! bam going to be one hell of a day.

I did a beginner free fall course. They spent several hours training us not to do certain things when jumping then they had us do a 3000 foot jump. The scariest part was having to step out of the plane and try to stand on the planes wheel before you jumped. The instructor pulls the pilot chute for you when you let go of the wing. It was fun but I now wish I had done the tandem. I did the free fall course thinking I would work towards a certificate, that was before I realized it would cost 10 grand.

If this is a one time thing, I'd say pay to jump in tandem with someone who knows what theyre doing. Typically they take you to 10,000 feet and you get way more air time.

in time I might aim for a certificate but as of now ya ill stick with a tandem. This place claims you get be jumping on your own (at $50 a pop) after like 10 jumps. So it be like 2k with them.

For once, California is cheaper on something than the rest of the country. I paid $100 for a tandem jump.

*edit: I dunno how it was for everyone else but I got more of a thrill from an amusement park ride than I did from skydiving. I mean, it's cool to mark it off the bucket list but I didn't get the same rush as dropping down on a roller coaster for example. It's kind of a gentle ride to be honest.

It's because you don't get the stomach effect that you get from a roller coaster. The worst part for me was when the chute was opened. Fucking dug in like hell(200lbs) into my inner thigh.

It was a few years ago but this is probably the place. It's in Lodi, CA. http://www.parachutecenter.com/

I am sure if you shopped around you could get a similar price, or at least negotiate them down. There's a lot of competition in California from the looks of it.

Only thing bad about Tandem jumping is that most of the time you're tied to another guy. Not sure about other places but the place I went to, during the flight up you had to sit between the legs of your tandem buddy. Guy sitting in between another guy and not gay? Not a good experience.

But damn, skydiving was worth it, even though in Canada the last time I went it was 350 + 150 for vid + 150 ( or 200 combined ) for pictures.

While sitting between a dude's legs were definitely awkward, the sensation that came after was totally worth it! (yea, that didn't sound gay did it....)
