Didn't Jane Lynch quit for Glee too, and the ratings dropped lower or something? I realize yeah they could have brought more people in, but I imagine the cast changing and declining ratings contributed somewhat to the decision.

It certainly seems like a Starz series in that the premiere had sexing on 2 separate occasions, but I don't think it'll be as much of a focus in Camelot as it was in Spartacus.

Jane Lynch left season 1, they replaced her and the show didn't even slow down a beat. It got funnier if anything b/c it was new weird personalities.

edit: I also cannot believe that starring as like ~3rd male lead (and that's being generous) on network pays better than starring on cable. Also smaller production schedule from Party Down leaves more time to work on movies and shit lol, seems like a shit career move.

So far, I like the show. I'll admit I really don't know a lot about the Camelot story, or how true it is holding up to it, but it's pretty enjoyable thus far. I'll definitely be watching this weekly and recommending it to friends who enjoy this kind of thing.

Just watched the second (first non-pilot) episode.

    Spoiler: show
Was surprised they killed Sir Hectore, though drama-wise sure, I guess it was a good death for OH MAN NOW ALL HIS FAMILIES ARE DEAD. Was very surprised they killed off Lot. In most tellings of the story, Lot of Orkney becomes one of Arthur's subject-kings after the whole conquering all the warrior-kings who didn't want to be subjugated thing. King Lot's sons by Morgause (one of Morgan's sisters, though in the show they've made Morgause her mother) are all major round table figures (Hello Gawain, Agravain, Gaheris, and Gareth), so not sure how they're going to swing this.

They seem to be setting up Leontes as Lancelot. Really not sure where they're headed with this. In the early stories, Guinevere is the daughter of a Welsh king, Leodegrance, who is betrothed to Arthur as he sets about reminding dudes he's actually, for really-reals king by killing them. In the later romances, when Lancelot has been added as Arthur's champion, you get the start of the whole love-triangle thing when Lancelot goes to bring Guinevere back to Arthur and he falls in love with his lord's bride. Tragedy ensues. In the show, Guinevere has been introduced as Leontes betrothed, which seems to set everything on its head. They had better be pretty clever about this, because for fucks' sake, that triangle is pretty fucking integral to the entire story.

The Sword of Mars that they introduced looks like their means of separating the Sword in the Stone from the sword Arthur receives from the Lady in the Lake, since even into later tales both swords are said to be Excalibur, which gets stupid confusing. "Hey, I pulled this sword from a stone and that means I'm king! And this bitch under the water also gave me this same sword! Follow along, kids!" Separating the two was necessary.

All in all, going to keep watching for now.

Fucking love this show. The fact that theres changes to the original story doesn't bother me much because its been changed so much before. People forget this has been told and retold for centuries.

The real reason I love this show is Eva green and Claire Forlani.

Eva Green has got to have the sexiest voice on the planet. I can probably rub one out if she ever read an Audio book about the Holocaust.

Not only that, have you read her wiki page?

    Personal life

Green considers herself nerdy:[11] "When people first meet me, they find me very cold. I keep myself at a distance, and I think that's why I'm so drawn to [acting]. It allows me to wear a mask."[12] She moved to Primrose Hill, London in mid-2005.[5] She prefers the "village-like" atmosphere of the London neighbourhood: "I feel more centred when I'm [there]."[10] She lives alone, jokingly referring to her border terrier, Griffin, as her "husband".[11] She is an atheist, and was not raised to follow any religion.[35]

She dated New Zealand actor Marton Csokas after meeting him on the set of Kingdom of Heaven, but the couple announced their split in 2009.[36]

She has no particular fitness regime, because, "I'm French and I'm lazy, which means I smoke and I don't exercise",[37] though she does run and she practices pilates. Green finds dieting too stressful.[31] She thinks of herself as an international actress:[14] she can speak both her native French and English fluently,[10] and is also learning Japanese[38] as well as perfecting an American accent.[14]

Green's favourite film is Cries and Whispers, and she is a fan of directors François Truffaut,[39] Ingmar Bergman,[11] Tim Burton,[39] Lars von Trier,[11] David Lynch,[40] and David Fincher.[40] She admires the actresses Lauren Bacall,[11] Marlene Dietrich,[11] Bette Davis,[11] Jeanne Moreau,[7] Cate Blanchett,[7] Juliette Binoche,[7] and Helena Bonham Carter.[7] She credits Blanchett and Kirsten Dunst as her fashion influences, describing her own taste as, "bright pink lipstick, hot pink or geisha colors. Make up is allowed to be a bit weird, I feel."[31] Her favourite artists are Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele,[2] and she is a keen museum visitor;[41] she particularly likes Chinese and Indian architecture, and framed displays of butterflies and other insects.[36] Green enjoys music, listening to film soundtracks and classical music when preparing for roles,[42] and she plays the piano.[43]

Good so far, performances seemed a bit flat in the first episode, but picked up by the end.

Hereby reaffirming my endless and fiery love for Eva Green, for whom I am willing to die and resurrect as one of her zombie minions, should she command it.

    Spoiler: show
I get the sense that the deaths of Hector and his wife marked a manner of transition: Arthur's old life is gone, time to be king. Might also be one of those elements meant to mature him quickly. Lot, who may very well have been a subject-king in the original material, may have also served the purpose of marking Arthur's transition. "I've killed my strongest opposition, now the rest of you fucks fall in line!" Or something like that.

I don't know that they're setting up Leontes as Lancelot, at least, I hope not. It could very well be that they introduce him as a means of foreshadowing--if Arthur covets his champion's betrothed (taking her upon Leontes's death), it would be poetic should Lancelot come around to do the same. Obviously, this is just conjecture, though. I'm really just hoping they don't take one of the most famous love triangles in history and turn it on it's ear.

You're more than likely right as far as foreshadowing goes. Leontes and his Bieberhair will probably die a gut-wrentchingly noble death.

    Spoiler: show
What I was HOPING for, which I thought they were getting at by showing the Morgan-as-young-girl in the crowd as Arthur was crowned, was that they were going to pick up the Mordred thread nice and early. Mordred looses his sting if he's Arthur's nephew, so much better when he's his nephew AND son.

Anyone else watch the ending of the 2nd episode and think they couldn't care less about what happens with the show as long as Eva Green does what she did for every episode?

Enjoyed this weeks episode. I'm kind of looking forward to when Merlin does some boss type shit, but who knows how long that will be. It seems like magic has a hefty price to it, though I have no idea what it is.

I'm betting something stupid like the wine sack with blood is found. Some shit like that always happens.

I'm enjoying the show so far but I hope it picks up soon, it's understandable for 1st season to establish the characters and stuff though.
I'm really curious where this whole magic thing is heading, Merlin is very mysterious with this whole thing but they sure leave you wondering what this is like when the old queen says that he hasnt aged a day since he took Arthur from her. Merlin is really intense also, I like the cast so far.

It's okay so far but I'm really bored with the forbidden love angle of the legend. I wish the writers had really separated this project from the rest by going in a different direction with the love storyline. I've read a ton of Arthurian legend over the years and my favorites always went a different direction than what is normally shown.
