    The art of rifting.

Just to get a thread started in here, what tricks do you have to getting max points in a Rift?

So far as a healer if I spam my big heal it gets counted as full effect as long as it heals for something, so I just spam my big slow one and I'm pretty much at the very top every time.

Tanking so far has been iffy for me on points and I haven't done it much, so I have less exp.

As a bard, I throw down a 5pt coda of distress and then go spam motifs. Someone was saying tally is really affected by APM and the best strategy was to just spam low power instant cast abilities. That's just what I've read at least, so far ive usually been around the top by spamming motifs.

seems like its near impossible to get a purple sourceshard on dps with all the healers =(. unless i'm just doing something wrong, but i've yet to get one after like 20 invasions.

Playing Cleric as Inq/Cab/Warden and just dps'ing in rifts and I got my first purple shard at 14 and my second shard at 17 and my last one at 20 and I wasn't doing any healing of any kind. Seems kinda random. I just vex everything I can and then DD down the closest one. Seemed to work nicely enough.

Anyone know how to find the boss mob on the main map when he pops? I have no clue how folks are able to find the Rift boss so quickly when he pops.

There's an icon that shows on the map (can get overwritten by rifts and such) that's two axes crossed over and a skull in between. That's the boss' marker.

From my experience it's near impossible to do that well as a melee because of all the time you'll spend not on target.

I'm not sure about just actions per minute mattering because I throw down my 3s heal and the meter ALWAYS jumps up.

Well i've spent the majority of my time DPSing rifts as cabalist, and i haven't gotton any purple shards. Although both major zone invasions i was in bugged out and despawned towards the end, so i know thats where they were going to be. Cabalist in general just wasn't working for me, hard to keep my participation up with it since is such an AoE heavy class. Switched to Inquisitor and it seems to be a lot better. Healing has always been easier for me to gain shards though versus DPSing, provided there aren't too many other healers present.

What i've found out is if you're not next to the boss when it spawns during a zone invasion, don't even bother going to find it. Most of them die so quickly its just pointless to go looking for it.

I only ever see healers getting purple shards. I don't think I've ever seen a DPS or a support get a purple shard in all my time in beta and now in retail.

I target enemies that are close together and spam fragmentation grenades as well as lay down my AOE trap. The more mobs I hit the faster my gauge jumps.

I rolled warrior during beta and had no issue with obtaining gold during rifts. This time I rolled rogue and use marksman. So easy to just spam the triple shot and reach gold.

One thing I gripe about is the xp hit rifts got.

As a bard, I make sure I have Motif of Regen up, since it heals everyone in raid constantly. I also make sure I use Cadence because that also heals everyone in raid (with soul points spent into the talent). But the big chunk of my contribution is by spamming fanfares. Try it, youll notice a big jump in your contribution when you do it.

I just feel like the less crowded a rift, the more potential you have. The only thing that sucks about trying to low-man things is if an elite or twenty pop on you. I've gotten a few purples as a Reaver, and while it's a pain in the ass to keep moving/finding mobs as a melee, sometimes I've taken the initiative to just gather a pack and then AoE Soul Sickness/Infestation and then get to spamming my AoE attacks. Pretty much how I solo 5 mob NQ invasion forces and footholds, too.

Tried out spamming fanfares and I've got to say it's very effective. Thanks for the tip!

I've gotten three purples so far. First two I think I was a Saboteur or Nightblade, I don't remember. Second one I'm sure was a glitch because I just closed one major rift, and didn't even engage the megaboss and BAM, purple right there. But I was ranger for the closing of the rift.

Best way I've found to gain purples is a two fold trick.
    1) Drop everything that you are doing when the invasion starts and close/kill any invasion mob
    2) Around halfway through the progress, going to the last remaining Rift that is opened, the megaboss will spawn there.

If you get there first and just spam anything and everything without worrying about energy/power you'll get your purple.

As previously mentioned, you get better contribution if you just spam abilities, regardless of how much damage, healing, tanking, w/e you actually accomplish. I didn't see it, but my guild mentioned that the devs are aware of this and the rewards issues and will be fixing them.
