You could totally get away with "I'm not stalking her police officer, I'm just practicing my ninjutsu."
Look into Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Like any other schools, dojos, and training facilities though, be wary of who's for-profit or too idealistic. Like Jeet Kune Do, Budo Taijutsu can be notorious for having branches that claim they're original or following Soke's true ways blah blah blah. If you're serious about it, shoot me a PM and I can look into what instructors are legit and are good to study with in your area since I know a ton who go back to Japan annually to study with Soke. The sooner the better really, there are rumors going around that he might retire this year or some time soon.

Do you have any tips for conditioning? I know you used to be really big and out of shape and now you're in shape and muscular, so I imagine you had to do a lot of work in terms of cardio? As a person who's out of shape and needs to improve his endurance, do you have any tips? I should probably be asking this in the BG fitness thread.

Back when I did TKD and boxing my shape was awesome. I could go on forever despite my heart and lung problems. I don't know how I got so terrible so fast I'm not fat or anything (I'm somewhat muscular), but I'm wondering if getting even leaner would also help. It seems like the thinner, leaner people in my gym can last longer than the muscular, larger people. I'm wondering if I should cut down on the bodybuilding.

I work as a bouncer on the weekends for various high end venues and clubs throughout S. FL. But these places are classy and I don’t deal with all the ghetto shit lol. In fact, we even have Miami PD as our backup whenever I’m working downtown or even the local PD’s over here. More often than not, I am never forced to defend myself, and even if I was, there are a lot more precautions I can take before I get into that state of mind. My biggest issues don’t stem from the men, but actually woman. They get drunk very fast, and act incredibly hostile in certain situations. With our reactions and their sluggishness, its actually very simple to keep them restrained. There has only been one instance where I had to get violent with a woman. It really was such a shame. It was also the 1st time I put a pretty girl’s face on the concrete lol. We handcuffed her and had her escorted.

For conditioning, I have little things I need to work on myself. For instance, I have a bad habit of not having my hands stay still. When I enter that adrenaline mode, I’m constantly shaking. And that’s not good for the most part It hurts my posture sometimes, but I know its all in my mind, and I’ve actually been getting better at pacing myself and keeping calm. I’m far from perfect, and have a ton to work on lol.

For getting lean, you should do freeweights at higher reps, and even use things to help your balance, like bosu balls. Your lung and heart problems can still benefit from it as long as you’re not pushing yourself to that pump for longer periods of time D:

Ah, if only ;; so many things I can learn from you, art, training, etc lol. Just like some tricks you taught me on FFXI with ninjer!

I do have a question though, I saw a couple people mention that they prefer grappling too lol. How do you combine this with KB and TKD in given situations? It seems like it would compliment eachother just fine. I have a horrible habit of trying to jump ahead too much and combine different techniques that I haven’t even learned yet just from the pure excitement I get from watching it, but I cant help but question when I would actually use it in a real world situation lol. I’m a big guy so of course I would be drawn to it ;p

The training is clearly geared towards competition, so there are a lot of holes in their defenses which are ignored because to make use of them would be against the rules. For example, it amazed me how many of those grappling moves I've learned leave the crotch wide open, but for competition that's illegal so that's the least of your concerns. Whereas traditional martial arts are all about self defense, survival, and ending the fight as quickly as possible and doing whatever it takes to be able to walk home after, so you're trained specifically to find and utilize openings like that immediately

So it really depends on how you want to approach it. If you're training for competition MMA is great but it's not the end-all combat sport like a lot of people like to make it out to be. Traditional martial arts can have much better application for general self-defense. I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and that tends to work best for me as I have big strong legs but not much upper body, so boxing and grappling definitely not my strength. But it's been fun to learn and I plan to continue. Once my year contract runs out I might start taking judo, which I've always been fascinated with. Or I might keep training MMA we'll see.
Why does it not surprise me that someone who drops names like Brock Lesnar would start down the path of "best style for street fighting"? It wasn't specifically called out, but this post reeks of going that direction. The best self defense for a street fight is two shoes and quick legs to run the fuck away.

I agree with the streetfighting thing, best way is to avoid it. But, if you wanna learn how to street fight, look up Bas Rutten's self defense video. LOL!!

I've done Isshin-Ryu Karate for 19 years and love it. It's an Okinawan style used for self-defense with close-combat fast techniques. The practicality of it is what keeps me interested in it.

Or maybe Chun Kuk Do, lul.
I actually teach hapkido. In general, though I wouldn't recommend it for somebody wanting MMA (there aren't many hapkido competitions), I find it highly entertaining, and very well rounded. It's a nice mix of meditation, strikes, and grappling. However if you want a really good workout, you should probably stick to one of the other styles. We spend a lot less time doing aerobic-style workouts than the taekwondo class does that teaches at our school.

Aikido and Kenpo are very difficult. I was told by one of my aikido senpais that martial artists mostly agree that aikido is the hardest martial arts style to learn, though I don't know how true it is. I was struggling with the style of it (yoshokai) we are using, a little bit. Kenpo is the more practical of the two (it teaches you how to fuck people up for realz). Tae Kwon Do is okay for basics as a building block on every other martial art, but it's kind of pointless by itself imo. Krav Maga isn't really technically a martial art, its ideology seems to basically be "what can I do using my body and things around me to kill the other person the fastest?", which is very useful for self-defense. It's pretty much what the style was designed to do explicitly, and it's an incredible workout because you are constantly moving and thinking. If I was to take a purely self-defense style, would take kenpo or krav maga.

Martial arts are great for self defense. You never know when someone will corner you in an alley and say "I don't have a gun or a knife, so either hand over your wallet or we'll do a one on one, weaponless fair fight where my buddies wont jump in".

We used to have multiple attacker training, and it was fucking insane. The whole school was the ring, and there was a giant trampoline in the corner(used to be an old gymnastics school) So you would basically run around getting your ass kicked for 5-10mins. Doing all kinds of jump kicks off that trampoline was awesome.

@OP: Optimal answer depends on what your purpose for fighting is. Self-defense, sport, competition, health, fun. I'd say probably figure out what's the most important purpose of doing it in the first place, then go to picking an art that's best suited for that.

I'm not getting into the whole "lol realworld fightan" shit, but I've done a few years of Capoeira, Hapkido and BJJ, and spent a minor amount of time with TKD and boxing and I gotta say, by far the most fun I had actually practicing and learning new things was with BJJ. It helped that I had a couple close friends with roughly the same size/strength/weight/experience to spar with, but damn every single class was good. It's the only martial art I've ever taken where I was compelled to spar with people outside class just for the hell of it, cause I enjoyed it.

I don't know what it is about it compared to say, more striking based stuff, but I just like the dynamics of how a BJJ fight works (the back/forth, move/counter situations, etc). It's also nice to spar every single class - you always get a reality check on when you're making progress, what you need to improve, what you're doing well at, etc.

One of the things I really didn't like about Hapkido was how infrequently we'd actually use our skills (so you can, you know, check if you've actually learned any of it properly) - a loooooot of time was spend on standard drills, conditioning, forms and individual techniques and whatnot, with almost no time devoted to putting it all together in some practice matches. I'd always kind of get the feeling I didn't quite know whether or not I had actually learned to do any of it correctly, or whether I was just going through the motions but missing some important aspect of what I was doing. It could have just been my master's style though, I've never practiced under anyone else nor seen any other schools for comparison (the one I went to was the only Hapkido place in the area).

Interestingly, krav maga is specifically tailored to overcome exactly those types of sarcasm situations. It's just not a 'traditional school of martial arts' like kung fu or whatever. I had a chance to take it but after watching a demo the club here did, I doubted I could even keep up with them.

My friend took a krav maga lesson once, they randomly had to line up and punch each other in the stomachs until they could no longer take it.

I did Judo for a number of years and always enjoyed it. It's great for self defense, great exercise, and it's a pretty all-around martial art in that it's both ground and stand-up based grappling. It's not as "in" as say Brazilian Jiu-Jutsu, but a lot of the things you'll learn in BJJ you'll also learn in Judo.

Brazilian Jiu-Jutsu is almost the same as Judo, but with less hair.
