Mage Discussion
Looking to see what people are using as their soul combos on Mage. I am currently going Elementalist/Pyromancer/Chloromancer on my first role. I'm trying to find out what will be good combos for endgame and dungeons, as well as PvP and such. Also, how is everyone's scores looking on rifts? I have a difficult time getting to max score, but sometimes is better than others.

On my Mage I am running Elemental/Storm/Pyro. Get all your major offensive move out on the table and many nice ones to choose from since you could
encounter various mobs that are resistant to one type of element. I usually send my elemental in, grab two or three for aggro and just start mowing shit down.

Necro with Warlock/Dom for solo quest grinding. Can pull like 3-4 mobs at once and aoe them down with no problem and finish the fight with full life. As for dungeons, I have Pyro with Ele/Dom. And I swap around my current 3rd soul depending on whats needed, usually Chloro with Warlock/Archon. I like just having the dom soul on with 0 points into it for the transmogrify.

The Defense is ready, Your Honor
Solo: Necro/Lock/Arch
DPS: Pyro/Lock/Arch
Heals: Chloro/Lock/Arch
The main soul I always use is Warlock, because with 10 point into it, you get nearly twice the charge for each spell, a 10% chance to proc an insta-cast on ANY spell, including insta-casted spells, plus you get the health-to-mana ability. For Necro and Chloro, this makes you functionally invincible as long as nothing is one-shotting you while you do your work. For Pyro, this means that as long as you have a hot on you, you're free to blast away with impunity.

Oh, wow, I did not know about that lock combination...... Maybe i'll switch out one of my souls to nab it on my Chloromancer! I have been avoiding really looking at it since I didn't want to mess with pets or something. Sounds like it'd be really handy for just about anything, thanks. How far do you go into Archon Luc?

You can go high into arch for the massive +15% damage to all human targets, but I'm thinking about switching to elementalist for the stock 5% crit buff. I really don't put points into the third until HIGH level. I basically go 11 into lock and pump points into the main soul.
Lock right now, though, is the definitive choice for a second soul. Opportunity + life to mana is just too good to pass up for instances and max DPS or HPS.

Changed to Lock as my second soul, I love you so much for the recommendation, hahaa. It's really really handily nice :D

What have you guys found to be the best pvp spec combo for mage? Ive tried out a few but so far if I get focused at all, I really just melt in a few seconds.

It really depends on what your comp is. For matches where I have a lot of cover, my max DPS pyro spec is hilariously fun, with matches typically ending up with me getting from 15-25 kills with 1-5 deaths, and easily in top 3 or top damage. Pyro simply has too many ways to lower people to 50%, and too many instant one-shot finishing moves when someone is around 30. If you get any combination of opportunity, wildfire or the ranged execute (overwhelm I think it is?), you become a walking juggernaut - or a standing one, if you're using your grounding. You also can disarm people from range, which is nice in the Black Garden to neutralize rogues that try to trip up the carrier, and the AOE 2 second stun is great to drop into the middle of the fang spawn, or anywhere where there are a pile of baddies.
For any other type of comp, I typically go Chloro. I sacrifice the ability to snare others, but I can focus my attention on either players or their pets, depending on who is around me. With Chloro, you can actually help people by killing pets because pets typically will stay close to you attacking someone, you won't get beaten up by attacking them, and dealing damage to -anything- constantly heals your team. Not to mention the AOE heals are instant and powerful.

Anyone have a good chloro build for 5 man runs they could recommend? I am currently level 20.
