My interest is piqued, but I'm not really sure where they can go with new souls and I really hope they introduce some new stats to items so that itemization is less boring. The art is fantastic, though.

Yeah, I'm a little skeptical about new souls since it can feel like sometimes all the souls within a calling can be overly similar. Unless these new souls are like bard in their difference from other souls within callings, then it's just more of the same (shocking, I know).
What I'd really like to see is distinct armor sets for each soul. Never gonna happen but would really take the game to the next level.
Well, warrior soul could benefit from a healer or support class, especially if it's unique enough. Some mages are quirky and want a tank soul. Clerics and Rogues can fuck off for all I care. The cap increase probably interests me most since one of my bigger long standing gripes with the game was the lack of points to really make 3 soul combos mean much, usually being more a focus on 2 with perhaps up to 10-12 on the third tops.
60 day game time card on sale at Target for $25 instead of 30$.
Meh, might bite for $20 or less, but I'd lose the $5 just driving to the nearest Target. :/
Change BM to Dragoon and the cat to a wyvern, and I'm there.
Yep, I signed up again, this x-pac looks fucking good, I'm down for playing.
I might give it a look when it actually comes out, but I'm still pretty bummed there's fuck all for progression for those who don't raid, but have the T2 planar gear.
So I just got the itch to start playing again and I see there's an expansion and level cap increase. Do you have to buy the expansion to increase level cap? I don't know if the game is going to be able to hold my interest long enough to be worth buying the expansion but seems like it'd be fun to try out again.
Last I heard, you're capped at 50 unless you buy SL.
Yep, level cap increase is part of the expansion.
greetings, I'm thinking about playing this game again. First time I played it was at it's launch, I got to around 42ish on my mage, or whatever it's called before quitting. I has some questions.
1. How active is the game atm? Are there many servers with active populations?
2. Would I have to buy new expansions to be able to enjoy the game? as it is with WoW at least, if you're not at the level cap you're playing on your own.
also is there no 7 day resurrection thing? i must pay for a full month to try out my old chars again? fuck starting over :<
thx
As far as I'm aware there is no 7 Day Resurrection at this time, though there was a free weekend a few weeks ago (not that this helps).
1) Every non-trial server has a decent population with Deepwood being the busiest! Here is a picture of current shard status. (Bear in mind this was taken at 9:40am PST)
2) You will have to buy the Storm Legion Expansion if you want to enjoy the game past 50 but the expansion brings a HUGE amount of new content etc and is well worth it in my opinion. Like you I also recently returned to the game. With regards to playing on your own pre-cap this is not a problem currently in Rift. SL brought with it a surge of new subscribers and has quite an active lower level/levelling community with many guilds focusing on just that.
Hope this helps you reach a decision![]()
Heh, I actually just left the game. Leveling and everything was fine, but the QA has been godawful. 3 abilities (2 cleric 1 war) have at one point or another been disabled due to exploits/bugs, and the rep grind was fucked up beyond belief. I had fun, but as a raider with all the bugs, horrible rep grind, etc, pushed me over the edge.
Also while there is no 7 day freebie, 1-20 is always free.
I'm kinda burnt out at the moment, too. Rep grind, as noted, is terrible. I'd make a case that the warrior calling needs further revamps to bolster build flexibility, but I guess some people like being married to Warlord for open world stuff. And I'll still keep scratching my head at the insistence of raid gear superiority with no option for other play styles to become comparable. Max infinity stone gear is still basically 2 tiers behind top raid stuff, but they also get the added benefit of dropped gear to shore up gaps in between building said gear. And no T2 set bonuses as a result. Instances of goading people into dungeons to upgrade gear unrelated to dungeons is also pretty tacky, too. Basically, there's a difference between encouraging something and making it mandatory. Trion has a bad case of the latter at times.
And don't forget the horrible itemization, especially for Warrior stuff. Hi2u Blue expert gear better than T1 raid gear.....
I quit as well. I enjoyed the storylines leading up to 60, but my intent was to raid and the raiding content doesn't look exciting at all (I laughed when I saw Mollinar and Sicaron in the Regulos encounter). I'm also not a fan of how Trion has mismanaged the bot situation, and in general they just seem to lack foresight with a lot of the decisions they make. Unfortunately, I expected better of Trion and purchased a year sub back when they were doing the free SL deal, so I guess I can still drop in if I want, but the desire just isn't there.
I think the raid content is quite fun still :/ Everything has been a good challenge so far. The itemization so far has been annoying as my guild has been runebreaking probably 70% of the drops we get. The combination of the synergy crystal system, crafted helm/belt/capes being so amazing and how little Critical Hit rating gear gets makes us only concerned about marks and weapons/accessories. I have enough marks for 2 raid pieces right now, but will have to wait another ~3 weeks until I can buy my third to actually consider it a DPS upgrade.
The rep grind right now is over the top if you didn't take advantage of fishing, but if you happened to have purchased/botted your fish then you'd be ok. With the ability to have other people rune gear for you I haven't been too worried about finishing off my final rep. Right now I'm all focused on Conquest, which has gotten much more fun now that people are playing/killing each other. Most matches are ending because of kill counts now or get close to it which is better than it was before imo. All 3 teams (at least during more peak hours) have a pretty good shot at winning each match. Despite that I can't wait to get my trinket upgraded and not have to continuously try to enter matches.
