Need a GPS

Okay, our old GPS is about 10 years old, and almost had it. It's a Garmin and it barely works anymore. You need to plug it in to the lighter a very specific way, and if the adapter jingles, it's kaput. It also doesn't keep a charge for shit anymore. Before anyone asks, it's the wire itself on the GPS, which is all connected to the adapter. Getting a new adapter seems out of the question.

That said, I'm looking for a new one. It doesn't have to be anything special, but I'd like a semi decent one. I've heard Garmin and TomTom are both good. Not sure about the others. I've done searches and all, but there are hundreds. I want to get some people's opinions on here. Needs voice of course, and fairly quick response time. Our old one makes me get off at the wrong exit sometimes.

Looking to spend anywhere between 100-200 bucks. Will probably order off Newegg, as I'm assuming that's the cheapest place to get one, save a Black Friday sale.

This is a possibilty. I have my Evo, but the GPS sucks the battery down so fast, I would have to buy a car adapter else the midway through the trip my phone dies. I guess that's cheaper than buying a GPS. But still, looking for suggestions.

I got my TomTom on sale for 100 bucks at bestbuy because a brand new model had just come out. The model I bought was around 300 a week prior. Can't hurt to see if either TomTom or Garmin is coming out with something new soon. If so, you can get a pretty powerful GPS for the price range you want to spend.

I really would like to throw my support behind using a smartphone for GPS. Unless it updates it's own maps, google maps with navigation and a car charger is what I've found to be way more accurate. New addresses will be in there more quickly, you get the option of navigating to a location from the web, and it has traffic now. Another neat feature I found was that when I looked up an address on my PC using google maps while logged in, and then took my android phone out to navigate in the car, it had the location I just looked up as a recent place when inputting destinations. A car charger and a mount will likely be cheaper as you said.

I also recommend Garmin, widescreen model. Map updates are torrentable :D

I have a blackberry so GPS is a piece, but a lot of smart phones have that option. Depends on how much you're willing to spend.

I actually just ended up getting a car charger and mount. It's better than my current 8 yr old GPS. It's pretty great actually. Does street names and everything. Spent less than 40 bucks for everything. I could have ordered some crap on Amazon, but I needed it for the last couple days. My phone is the Evo, and it's got the built in Navi. I dunno if there's another one that's free or a reasonable price, but the default seems fine.
