Damnit lost a post I had wrote this morning

    - Netbook vs iPad for note taking using a bluetooth keyboard: I don't care for netbooks, had one, gave it to little brother. Screen size and keyboard just annoyed me. I like my bluetooth keyboard's layout, it's extremely light. iPad screen is nice, the new little folding thingie looks ideal.

    - If it were *JUST* for taking notes in class, I would probably opt for a 13-14" laptop instead. But as a portable media player I can plug into TVs, fooling around between class, browsing, etc.. It fits all my needs at a lower price than a 13-14' laptop. I'm not gonna be doing spreadsheets on it, or budgetting, there are a few neat apps out I would use occasionally, but mostly for the same reasons other people want one: it's cool, it's light, its got good battery life, best app store, browsing/wifi on a good size screen while i'm not stuck to a chair. Using it to take notes is just a bonus, and I can avoid having to purchase a laptop just for that type of school work (i really don't care for netbooks, at all >_>)

The iPad is best for games, media consumption (especially streaming video like netflix), and web browsing. It's also an awesome facebook device (excluding games, of course)

Edit: for me, I mostly use it for bathroom reading, browsing on the bed, and watching videos when running on the treadmill.
Hopped on BG on my iPad while taking a shit to see people's thoughts on the new FFXIV patch notes, and remembered this thread (actually posted there first, finished my shit, and came here). Bathroom reading and browsing from the bed ftw.

Sounds like you've made up your mind. If you're comfortable paying a huge premium for very limited functionality in a trendy package, and never for see yourself needing a more versatile, mobile tool, that's fine. If it does what you need and you think the price is reasonable, have fun with yours.

Why is it considered a huge premium? It's like, 100$ more than a top of the line netbook. Honestly, if the netbook screen were a bit bigger, and the keyboard was a bit bigger, with the same lightness of an iPad i'd go for it. Hell, i'd go for other pads if they had the same shit. I've definetly made up my mind tho at this point, too much neat utility. I don't like following the "yay mac~" thing, but at the same time, other pads are more expensive, not really as good, not bad, but just seems more simple to go with apple in this case.

Why would you buy a top of the line netbook if you're using it solely for note taking though?

Apple fanboys will say anything to justify their purchase, when it really boils down to "I want it/I'll look more cool." One user on another forum I frequent cited "I dont mind paying extra for the apple retail store experience."

Because he obviously wants to be able to do other things as well, like stream movies well.

Ok, that last part just blows my mind.

The Apple retail store experience is hideously painful. Too many smug hipster sales morons who really have no idea what they're saying, but can sure look too cool for you while reading off their mental script. That said, they are really easy to flummox, and much funnier when flummoxed than your average sales moron.

The guys at the "genius" bar at least know their ass from their elbows, but that's not saying much.

Ironically, the iPhone is probably one of the only things in that store which isn't a totally ludicrous proposition to buy, and one of the least likely to hear utterly ridiculous statements about from the salespeople (since it sells itself, and rightfully so).

I will never forget that when I walked out of the Apple store after buying iPhones for my wife and myself (3GS wasn't in stock yet at the AT&T store when we had to replace her phone, or I would've shopped there), the "concierge" fucking CONGRATULATED me. Didn't thank me. Didn't say good day. She said "congratulations" like I'd joined some elite club or become a better person because I bought iPhones. Yeah, no. Sorry. Inexcusable level of smugness, and completely inappropriate.

No USB port or SD card slot, again, means I will not be getting the iPad, again.

I'm sure many do, I am not however an an apple fanboy. It bugs me that I like this thing lol, but if it does fit my needs, I don't want to be penalized just because it's an apple product.

As for "paying for apple store experience", I don't know. I would've thought the same thing until a couple months ago, when the CEO of my company had a problem, had to go to the apple store, and came out in love with the experience, fast, knew what they were doing, fixed his shit (dont know if it was an easy problem or not).

The lower post about congratulating someone for buying an apple product is pretty sickening though.

Sorry, but the damn thing needs some sort of removable media format to be taken seriously.

It's one of the main flaws of the iPad. It's still reliant on a PC/Mac to get shit onto it. Why can't it just be a stand-alone device?

Because apple would lose sales if people only had to buy one device.

Good news, iPad 3G owners. If you were lucky enough to snag one of those coveted unlimited data plans with your original AT&T iPad, you won't have to toss it when upgrading next week. The carrier has confirmed to us that those who currently have the aforementioned plan will be able to keep it on their account when upgrading to the iPad 2, which in turns gives you no reason whatsoever to turn down the opportunity. Except for the lack of a USB port, SD card slot and a screen that touts the exact same resolution as the first model, of course.

Much like the company did when it suddenly dropped the price of its original iPhone, Apple is giving $100 back to those who purchased an iPad up to a fortnight before the March 2nd unveiling of the iPad 2. If our math is correct, that makes February 16th the cutoff date, and it's being reported that those in the US will see $100 placed back on their credit card, while those overseas will get £100 / €100 back in their pocket. If you've suddenly found yourself in this pool, you'll need to head back to a brick-and-mortar location with your receipt to get the refund processed, or if you ordered online, you'll need to call Apple's 1-800 number and use your smoothest late-night voice when asking nicely for your Benjamin back. Godspeed.

We knew good and well that both Verizon Wireless and AT&T would be getting their own 3G iPad 2, and while the latter is still trumpeting the original iPad on its site, VZW has gone ahead and put up a placeholder for what's next. A scant four months after the first iPad hit Verizon airwaves (by way of a MiFi), the "thinner, lighter, faster and FaceTime-equipped" model is just around the bend -- complete with an embedded CDMA 3G module. Hit the source link if you'd like to be notified of updates, or just make sure to wake up on March 11th.

I didn't realize people walked around with pictures on their USB keys to show people >_> I would assume most people would either e-mail, host, or have them on their phone to show people.
