woop, best buy employees aren't allowed to buy one for 90 days.
unless I go through apple, but I want best buys protection plan![]()
Question: Besides the cover they released with it, from Apple, are there any cases that are looking really nice? The cover thing only covers the front which is /sad![]()
I was prepared for possibly weak lines at the Apple retail stores considering, unlike previous launches, we were selling the iPad 2 at many more outlets on day one (Best Buy, AT&T, Verizon, Target, etc.) I am glad I was wrong and the lines were as strong as the initial iPad launch. I can't say what our sales were for the first day but I'm pretty pleased (and impressed.)
I didn't see any lines for the Xoom release two weeks ago. I really hope Motorola discloses their sales numbers for the Xoom in their quarterly earnings report next month. Even with two less weeks of sales this quarter, I think the iPad will eclipse their sales.
Yes, I'm chest thumping right now.![]()
I will be a few weeks before 3rd-party cases and covers come to the market. These companies do not get disclosed on the dimensions until the product is announced so it will take a few weeks to engineer and manufacture them. That's the way it always goes with these confidential launches.
So who bought an iPad which version and where did you got it

How are these things as far as longevity? I still use my old 80g classic. I've had my android phone for a year and a half now and it runs slow as fuck. Will the ipad start to slow down over time?

Well Ipad 1 hasn't been out for a year yet, so we can't say, but I had my Ipad from day 1 and never had problem
(Note saying until now because I sold my ipad1 yesterday waiting for 2 March 25)
I know it's too early to tell, and I know apple products LAST, but it's a tablet, with a lot of apps and shit...
My droid started to slow the fuck down well before a year, but it's also motorola and those things don't last at all. That's why i'm avoiding the xoom.
I actually have seen a lot of cases, if you google ipad 2 cases you get a bunch of options, but I think it may be better to wait. My guess is that soon they will have a case of some type that covers the side/back, but leaves you free to use the apple "cover" thingie as well, that would be pretty awesome.
Does anyone know where I could stream the whole conference in decent quality? I've only been able to find parts of it, or it's really shitty quality.
Those cases look cool on iPhones, but you'd look like you were carrying around material for a birdhouse with an iPad-sized case. Wouldn't it add a reasonable amount of weight/bulk, too (considering the size)?
Quicktime always runs like dogshit on my laptop, so I didn't try Apple's site at first. Audio was fine though. Thanks.
You're welcome.
Youtube has a bunch of copies too.
Bamboo is very very lightweight. So it wouldn't add much more weight I would say than some of the fancy leather cases you see out there, maybe less in fact. And as for bulk, of course it will add some, but again, less than some of the leather binder types. And the integrated leather and laser etched smart cover is very well designed on it.
This is incorrect. Many of the larger companies of iphone/ipad products are given engineering molds before the products are released so accessories are available at time of launch. Apple pretty much swears these companies to so much secrecy that breaking it probably contains provisions that causes your very soul to be given to Steve Jobs. But it's how companies like Belkin for example can have cases available on day 1.
Repeat: It will be a few weeks before 3rd-party cases and covers come to the market. These companies do not get disclosed on the dimensions until the product is announced so it will take a few weeks to engineer and manufacture them. That's the way it always goes with these confidential launches.
Apple doesn't even tell all of their employees the details of their newest products. They definitely aren't going to spread the word to random accessory manufacturers and "hope" their confidentiality agreement will be honored by all the various employees of companies they do not control. Believe what you will but Belkin did not get their hands or info on the new iPad until the day of announce.
I sit next to the person that works with Belkin and I could not even confirm or deny to her what we were announcing on March 2nd. We can't even confirm or deny to Belkin or any other company that the announcement is about a new product at all, let alone it being about the iPad specifically. Even though the picture on the invite given to the media basically made it clear it was about the iPad, we can't even comment on that. It's a weird atmosphere at Apple. Maybe one day I'll write up a post on what it's like working here but it's unlike any company I have ever worked for and I have worked for a lot of big name tech companies. They take their confidentially very, very seriously.
It's almost comical at times the level we go through to keep things on the down low. But then again, based on companies like Microsoft and Google stealing ideas from them in the past, the paranoia is kind of justified.
I did check out the Belkin website on the off chance I was mistaken. Although they have cases listed on the site, they are all placeholders. All of the cases are listed as "coming soon."
