Jeremy was complaining about the Turbo lag it had when he was sitting in fifth gear at 50 mph so that it was probably barely turning 2k rpm. If he had just dropped a gear there wouldn't have been any significant lag.Otherwise the review great. I totally agree with you on the hatchbacks, I have an '04 STi as well and would never change it for one of those.

No, they most certainly are.
First off, batteries in themselves are simply a gap technology in regards to electric vehicles. In the near-future EV will use multiple super or ultra capacitors and not traditional batteries. At that point charging your car will be even faster than you could pump gas now.Our country's automotive infrastructure first off couldn't handle a change to all electric vehicles for several reasons. To start is the fact that batteries simply take time to charge
Second off, even if we stuck with batteries for awhile, charging batteries is a function of how much voltage you use. 240v charges aprox twice as fast as 120v, 480v twice as 240v...etc. 480v stations can already charge cars in about 20-30minutes, and we can go literally as high as we want, 960v+ standards already in the works.
So your problem is a non-existent one, hell it barely exists NOW, let alone 5yr+.
Hydrogen is a dead-end technology, because it simply replaces an incredibly energy inefficient source of power with a slightly less inefficient one.Hydrogen on the other hand can be pumped at a fuel station just like gas, and some scientists have even developed a way to suspend pure hydrogen beads in a liquid making it combustible and that can be used in our current internal combustion engines preventing us from buying all new cars with money we don't have, and rebuilding our nation's power grid with money we also don't have. Also that hydrogen liquid produces no emissions other than water.
You realize we need electricity to MAKE the hydrogen right? we separate it by...you know, electrolysis. More electricity per unit of power than we'd get just powering the vehicle electrically...significantly more, so switching.
Hydrogen was an idea developed out of our need as you point out, to work with our existing infrastructure, because 30-40 years ago, batteries were terribly inefficient, and super/ultra capacitors didn't exist like they do today.
Since we have improved battery tech 100xfold in just 20 years, invented the capacitors to solve a lot of problems, and developed electrical distribution systems that meet the expectations of current consumers, hydrogen serves no purpose other than to waste energy.

Only real issue with them is weight density per KW/h, but their potential is much higher in the long-term, its lower now but advancing at a much faster rate than batteries, so in the near-mid future they'll be better in literally every sense. The issue is more with the manufacturing technology than the caps themselves.
