MORE BONES FOR THE ALTAR.

gg. if I start another one now I'll never get any work done tonight.
i am drunkenly curious as to whether you guys are any good. play on chesscuuuuuube!
edit: though i'm going to continue my (canonical) last pre-ME3 playthru of ME2 now, so add me as a "friend" and i will test your mettle. do it!
i dont play chess and i dont want to talk about it. you guys still wanna talk or is this some kind of...club
All I have to contribute is that drunken chess is one of the best things ever known to a nerdy get together~

Haha I forgot all about my games when I went to PAX. oops >.>
You guys should try out Go.
One of the best things about Go is that because of the effective handicap system, you can equalize out differences in skill so that each game is a challenge for both sides. I noticed in the history at RedHotPawn that Alleya won every game he played...isn't it kinda frustrating / pointless to continue playing someone that is significantly better, to the point where the only real chance you have at winning is a serious blunder on his part?
Anyone who is interested in trying Go, I'd be happy to show you the game and play some teaching games.
Here's a good starter website:

Found this interesting. Another reason not to play chess over the internet!
On a 13-game winning streak...but mostly because my opponents are losing the game rather than me playing well! This one I was probably 5+ points down going into the end of the game, managed to squeak out a 0.5 point win.
i would only play speed chess on the internet, at least with strangers. engine use is too widespread to play long time limit games.
however, it's just not the case that opening memorization or something like that finishes chess (and you can always play fischer random). i've only ever heard really weak players or 2700+ players try to argue that games are repetitive or you win/lose all the time if your opening theory is strong/weak enough. there are many salient principles in chess, and i would bet all the money i have that no one posting in this thread has a large enough grasp of them to make chess boring/simple.
Must suck not to be able to play a legitimate game with non-lightning time controls over the internet. Hence, why I suggest Go. Even the strongest computers aren't all that strong and also play like a schizophrenic on amphetamines and thus are easily differentiable from humans.
Hooray!
I suggest trying some 9x9 or 13x13 games to get a "feel" for things. Also, the culture in the Go world encourages kibitzing, so if you do hop online definitely check out some high-strength games.
That game is full of funny moveson both sides.
Just won my 17th game in a row! KGS finally upgraded my rank to 2k. Now I will promptly go on a losing streak and get demoted again...
