That would be a horrible idea. The forums is going to be filled almost instantly with players bitching about the game, whining about their jobs and begging for developers to answer questions. It isn't going to need people that aren't playing telling everyone else why they are so awesome for quitting a shitty game.

That's right. But I think it could be cool to have like one section like a "New/Returning Players sub forum" that was open to anyone to register.

If they make you register your ID and use password / token just to log into a damn forum, then it will be bust. If they let you anonymously post, ( as is being able to pick any name to register under ) maybe people will post there.

it makes sense though, most mmo forums require you to link your active account, so this is actually more lenient.

WAR at first let anyone post on it, and it was insanely stupid with tons of trolls. Not to say it'll eliminate it, but it definitely lessened once they required you to link an account.

So if you troll and your account is linked to the forum.... then SE can ban you from ff11 for trolling on the forum?? lol, that would be funny. I think ppl rather troll on BG instead....

What's funny is SquareSoft USA had a forum on their site until right around the NA PC launch of FFXI. I used to post on it when I imported JP PS2 FFXI. When they redesigned the PlayOnline site from being for an FFIX guide to being the FFXI site, they removed it. They could have just added an FFXI section and kept the forum.

Re: Playonline used to have forums for FF9 - you could also register a playonline account prior to FFXI's release, it just never carried over to the game itself. IIRC the registration process changed around NA launch and all the old ID's went kapoof.

If I had to guess, I'd bet that when they setup the first NA POL site the registration process for XI wasn't even close to finalized, and once estabilished it was easier just to erase everything and start over.

I fucking hope not. Dynamis is a bit of fun to farm with a few friends. Sounds like they're turning it into an open Abyssea fest. In before you can get Atmas and Cruor buffs.
