Announcing the Official Forum (03/04/2011)

Another thing I don't like about the whole forum business is fro, what I read they're pretty much stopping the twitter account. That thing was nice, just hop on to twitter every couple days to see updates and be done with it. Now to get any sort of update details it seems we'll have to log into the forum through our SE account, and THEN search through the insanely sectioned-off update details one by one. Way to go, SE.

The dev tracker aggregates everything, which you don't need to be logged in to see.

I'm curious, where did you see that the twitter account won't be used any more? I haven't read anything to indicate that at all.

-Topics
Articles such as version update notices, future plans, and Development Team comments will instead be posted on the forum. The role of Topics and the official FINAL FANTASY XI Twitter account (http://twitter.com/FFXI_EN) will shift to that of delivering version update details. The periodic FAQ articles, too, will be hosted on the forum.

Ya that is kind of disappointing. Hopefully they'll be adding compatibility with the forums and popular smart phone apps soon. Sucks to try and browse forums in a full browser on a phone for the most part.

Awful sig is awful ... they really should disable the ability to use sigs. There are plenty of other places people can use their horrible signatures.

The biggest problem with these forums is going to be the same problem that happens with WoW. The vocal QQ idiots are going to be the ones the devs listen to, and it's going to cause stupid nerfs, retarded additions, etc.

I have no desire to buy the game again and keep an active subscription just to troll, but it's so tempting.

One of the few things they are looking into is letting people pay RL money to un-ban accounts banned by the salvage dupe, Not confirmed yet but a strong possibility.

Can you link directly to a source for that?

These forums are way too huge for the limited number of people they probably have assigned to moderate them properly.

Also, I foresee our lack of ability to troll/call people out turning these forums into a worse hive of misinformation and bad advice than Alla.

I'm curious about what one could consider a stupid nerf that'd actually get entertained by the devs. Even among the more vocal QQing over Twitter, the only issue with any shred of legitimacy might've been how Abyssea negated the need for EXP outside of it. However, instead of upping the cap to 70+, SE's answer was to buff outworld EXP, and they'll presumably be doing the same for Campaign on top of adding EXP gain to Dynamis. They've basically given people more options, and for the better.

I'm in agreement over no more Cheese Sandwich shit, but even if we think some of the squeaky wheels aren't worth greasing, that doesn't mean they should just be passed up even if something good could be done with 'em. I'm for steering XI from the exclusive mentality and more into the inclusive. If that means a Dynamis - Abyssea, fine. RDM Melee that's worth a damn? Horror of horrors, right? Instead of bitching about what you don't want to see, use this to talk about what you do want.

It's just a general observation. If these forums are meant for feedback, and the main posters are going to the the QQtards as it is on WoW, then it could turn to some serious retardation by the devs. Considering a high percentage of the playerbase is completely fucktarded, they may listen to more of the idiots than the people who actually know what the fuck.

Again, though, what do you think this figurative mass of fail could do the game? Doomsday scenario would be free relics in your dbox, I'm sure, but we know better. Honestly, I'd be more worried about things like demanding the return of Kings or other like rare mobs where only a select few linkshells could ever hope to win against while at the same time sheparding unrealistic standards upon even those a step above casual. That already happens now with the Abyssea answer basically being "MNK + WHM it." for a lot of things even if the person says neither are available and/or lack an army of secondary accounts.

Thinking back on NA Twitter, most of the common blurbs were of the following:
1) Up Abyssea's cap.
2) Improve seal distribution in some way.
3) Make old shit matter.
4) My <favorite job> sucks, buff it!
5) Drop PS2.
6) "We want new expansions!"
7) "Do you really listen to us?"

You'd get unique queries now and then, but none of the above are really going to be different than what we'll see, nor intrinsically the bringer of an apocalypse (except for maybe PS2 users).

Edit: Opinions of jackoffs aside, the forums are pretty good. They didn't make it an overwrought, overcomplicated mess like the Linkshell Community.

What the fuck is wrong with the username creation? It tells me my name is invalid. I've tried different combinations of my name and server and it won't let me use them. O_o

EDIT: Apparently it has to do with their restrictions on swear words and having "spic" in my name is the problem. Good game Square Enix; good game.
