Abortion isn't legal in Pennsylvania? And no, I meant salad tongs, like literally.
Are we talking about Kermit Gosnell? I saw it on the news. Some pretty disgusting shit going on, but I didn't hear anything about salad tongs (which would actually be pretty mild compared to the other stuff he is accused of).
Relevant:
Philadelphia abortion provider Kermit Gosnell was convicted Monday of three counts of first-degree murder for the death of three babies that prosecutors said were delivered alive and subsequently killed.
Gosnell, 72, could face the death penalty when the jury reconvenes for the sentencing phase next week.
"He's disappointed and he's upset," defense lawyer Jack McMahon said of his client, who appeared calm in the courtroom.
Gosnell was acquitted of one count of first-degree murder in a fourth abortion, NBCPhiladelphia.com reported.

The jury also found Gosnell not guilty of third-degree murder but guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Karnamaya Mongar, a 41-year-old woman who died after an anesthesia overdose during a 2009 abortion.
Gosnell was convicted of a host of other charges, including infanticide, conspiracy and running a corrupt organization, NBCPhiladelphia.com reported.
Defense attorney Jack McMahon tells reporters that Dr. Kermit Gosnell is upset over the murder verdicts against him, but that the jury did its work by dismissing the other murder charges.
The verdict was announced on the 10th day of deliberations, capping a two-month trial that featured grisly testimony about botched late-term abortions and became a flashpoint for both sides in the national abortion debate.
Many of the 250-plus counts were tied to violations of state abortion law, which prohibits terminating pregnancies after 24 weeks.
The most serious charges stemmed from allegations that Gosnell delivered babies alive during late-term abortions and then snipped their spinal cords or directed underlings to do it.
"It was literally a beheading," unlicensed medical-school graduate Stephen Massof, who worked at Gosnell’s clinic, testified during the trial. "It is separating the brain from the body."
The defense denied that any of the births were live and said that Gosnell used drugs to stop the fetuses' hearts before they were delivered. Three counts of first-degree murder were dismissed during the trial for lack of evidence the fetuses were alive.
McMahon said Gosnell got a "fair trial," and noted that the case started with eight counts or murder and ended with convictions on three. "We have to deal with that," he said.
Jury finds Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell guilty of three counts of first-degree murder for the death of three babies that prosecutors said were delivered alive and subsequently killed. NBC News' Chris Clackum reports.
Asked whether he might be able to make a deal with prosecutors to avoid the death penalty if he drops any plan to appeal, McMahon said "that's always a possibility."
Gosnell had no comment as he was brought out of the courthouse after changing from a suit into jailhouse garb.
After a 2010 raid of the clinic, prosecutors charged nine workers, including his wife, with crimes ranging from perjury to murder. Eight pleaded guilty and a number took the stand against Gosnell.
At the trial, Gosnell's co-defendant Eileen O'Neill was found guilty of conspiracy to commit corruption and theft by deception for deceiving patients and insurance companies by pretending to be a licensed physician.
The allegations against Gosnell were detailed in a 300-page grand jury report that described his clinic as a filthy house of horrors full of broken-down equipment, splattered with blood, and staffed by unlicensed employees who did much of the medical work.
Aborted fetuses and their body parts were stockpiled in cabinets and freezers, in plastic bags, bottles, even cat-food containers. Jars with severed feet lined shelves, prosecutors said.
"It was a baby charnel house," the grand jury report said.
Trial testimony was often graphic or disturbing.
One employee testified that after Gosnell snipped the neck of a fetus delivered at 30 weeks, he joked it was big enough to "walk to the bus stop."
Massof said that so many women were given abortion-inducing drugs at once that "it would rain fetuses ... fetuses and blood all over the place."
Abortion opponents seized on the allegations against Gosnell as evidence that abortions are unsafe, while abortion-rights advocates argued that restricting access to abortion would drive women to unscrupulous clinics like the one he ran.
Arthur Caplan, the head of the Division of Medical Ethics at NYU Langone Medical Center and an NBC News contributor, criticized authorities for taking so long to shut down the clinic but said his conviction "does not resolve much concerning abortions in America."
"If there are women who seek to end pregnancies late in fetal development, there will be other Gosnells who will crawl out to ‘help’ them," Caplan said.
"The real solution to preventing future Gosnells is to make contraception widely available and put as few obstacles as possible between women and emergency contraception.”
I suppose I'm unfortunately jaded, as while the aforementioned is a terrible person (and I've read about them, too), that sort of thing is commonplace in areas that outlaw or otherwise severely restrict abortion. That, and I'm angry that anti-abortionists are already using this to support their case, either completely or willfully ignorant of the fact that eliminating legal access will only make these things happen more.
It's not news as much as it should be a wake-up call to the very anti-choice fools who will stupidly consider it complementary to their cause.
Yeah Mike Huckabee was apparently going on about how evil the main stream media is for not giving this 24 hour coverage and how its because they don't want to put abortion in a bad light.
Anteater Jesus is here to save us all! http://news.yahoo.com/mystery-immacu...140155441.html
Staffers at a zoological conservation center in Greenwich, Conn., are very confused — as are the rest of us — because their female giant anteater, Armani, has managed to conceive a baby, apparently without the presence of a male anteater.
It all started in August, writes Lisa Chamoff for Greenwich Time. Armani, an anteater at the LEO Zoological Conservation Center, had given birth to anteater baby girl Alice. Alice's father, Alf, was kept away from Armani and Alice because male anteaters have a bad history of committing infanticide. And then one April morning, a zoo staffer entered Armani's abode and found ... another baby. Chamoff explains, "The sudden appearance of little Archie was a surprise, to say the least. The gestation period for anteaters is six months. Armani and Alf had not been back together long enough to do what they needed to do to put the cycle of life into gear a second time."
Hypotheses began to fly about the conservation center and beyond. Some people thought it was "immaculate anteater conception" (though probably no one really thought that). Or that "Alf had somehow gotten the keys to Armani's pen one night in October." Another explanation has been posited by the founder and director of the center, Marcella Leone, who believes that Archie "might have been a case of delayed implantation, when fertilized eggs remain dormant in the uterus for a period of time." Anteater-similar mammals like sloths and armadillos have demonstrated delayed implantation — and yet, still, there is mystery: "some experts say they've never seen a second embryo implant after a mammal has just given birth," and that such a thing would be unlikely in giant anteaters.
The anteater experts themselves are at a loss. "Dr. Margarita Woc-Colburn, an associate veterinarian at the Nashville Zoo, which has one of the largest collections of giant anteaters in the country, said some scientific papers have mentioned the scenario in which an animal's body pauses a pregnancy until environmental conditions are right," writes Chamoff. Stacey Belhumeur, a Tucson, Arizona, zookeeper and species survival plan coordinator for the North American population of giant anteaters, suspects that the baby's origins are far simpler, though. "My guess is they thought they had him separated ... We've had animals breed through fences." Leone says her anteater charges should not have been sharing a fence line at the time that this pregnancy would have occurred — but were they? Was this a case of delayed implantation? Or is it something far more miraculous?
Unfortunately, unless the anteaters themselves 'fess up, there appears to be no way to prove what actually happened. It's an anteater mystery for the ages.

Palestinian smugglers deliver KFC to Gaza

Palestinian smugglers are using a network of tunnels dug under the Gaza Strip's border with Egypt to bring a new flavor to the Israel-blockaded enclave: fried chicken from U.S. fast-food chain KFC.
Since Israel tightened a blockade on the coastal territory six years ago, Palestinians have used the tunnels to smuggle everything from fuel to livestock- and even cars- from the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula.
Now, a Gaza-based delivery service company known as Yamama, or pigeon, has taken to delivering Kentucky Fried Chicken all over the Gaza Strip.
Yamama's motorcycle couriers ride to the Egyptian border, pick up the chicken from one of the tunnels, and deliver it to customers.
The meals are made at KFC stores in various cities throughout the Sinai Peninsula, because there are no KFC restaurants in Gaza. A KFC restaurant opened last year in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Israel tightened a blockade of the Gaza Strip in 2007 after the militant group Hamas seized control of the territory from secular Fatah rivals, who govern the West Bank.
"Anyone who wants to eat real Kentucky Fried Chicken can call our office in Gaza, give his name and his telephone number and say exactly how many meals he wants," said Ibrahim, a Yamama motorbike rider.
Yamama's owners said the new business began by accident when the company's motorbike riders offered to order KFC meals.
"It usually takes three hours for the meal to be brought from Egypt to Gaza and less than an hour to bring it from the tunnel and give it to the customer," Ibrahim said.
The company has a website (http://www.ymama.ps) featuring pictures of Egyptian fast food. It also has a page on Facebook, where customers can place orders for KFC deliveries the next day.
But the lengthy delivery time, sometimes prolonged by Hamas inspections or holdups on the Egyptian side, takes its toll.
"It is really very delicious although it is not very hot," said Eyad, a 21-year-old Gaza student.

McDonald’s Employee Spots Her Stolen Car in Drive-Thru
By Maria Nikias
May 16, 2013 5:47pm
A McDonald’s employee in Washington state got the surprise of a lifetime when her stolen SUV rolled up to her drive-thru window and the alleged car thief placed an order.
Virginia Maiden awoke Tuesday morning to start her typical weekday. As she left her apartment, however, Maiden noticed that her SUV that had been parked outside her window was gone and nowhere in sight.
“She was so confused, didn’t know what was going on, it was just gone,” an assistant manager at the McDonald’s in Kennewick, Wash., told ABC News.
Maiden continued her day and hitched a ride to work, where she later noticed a familiar car coming through the drive-thru and then spotted her McDonald’s visor in the dashboard, confirming that it was her vehicle.
“You would think whoever stole the car would say, ‘I’m not going to go to McDonald’s because the owner works there,’” the manager said, asking not to be identified.
The suspect attempted to order ice cream, among other items, but the quick-thinking Maiden came up with a plan. She told the woman that the ice cream machine was broken and to pull up to the next window and wait.
“Obviously, the machine wasn’t broken. It was a decoy to stall them till the cops came,” the manager said.
As Maiden had hoped, the decoy worked. She immediately called 9-1-1 and officers made it in time to arrest the suspect. Among the items in the car were clothes allegedly stolen from JC Penney and Sears, according to the Kennewick Police Department. The woman has yet to be charged, officials said.
“What if she [Maiden] was off? What if she was on a break and not at the window? What if she looked away … It was meant to be,” the manager said. ”It was at the right time and the right moment.”
