Fun fact, Tumblr. made $18mil in revenue last year, but they're expected to make $100mil this year. Well, that was before Yahoo bought them. Now they're expected to make $500mil.

NASA is working on replicators.NASA is funding research into 3D-printed food. Mechanical engineer Anjan Contractor received a $125,000 grant from the agency to build a prototype 3D printer with the aim of automating food creation. It's hoped the system could provide astronauts food during long-distance space travel, but its creator has the loftier aim of solving the increasing food shortages around the world by cutting down on waste. The software for the printer will be open-source, while the hardware is based on the open-source RepRap Mendel 3D printer.
The concept is to use basic "building blocks" of food in replaceable powder cartridges. By combining each block, a wide range of foods should be able to be created by the printer. The cartridges will have a lifespan of 30 years, more than long enough to enable long-distance space travel. After proving his system works on a basic level by printing chocolate, Contractor will start his project within the next few weeks by attempting to print a pizza.
As Quartz reveals, the pizza printer will first print a layer of dough, which will be cooked while being printed, before mixing tomato powder with water and oil to print a tomato sauce. The topping for the pizza will be a nondescript "protein layer." It's early days for the project, but if it's successful it would be a real milestone on the way towards a Star Trek-style Replicator.
$125k is not gonna get us replicators.
Also, the dude's last name is seriously "Contractor"? lol
Teenager invents revolutionary device which has the potential to charge a cell phone within just 20 SECONDS. A California teen has attracted the attention of tech giants Google for her potentially revolutionary invention

One the rare moments of intelligence on WSHH's comments lol
Sucks for her. She doesn't even need school after that invention. They will take advantage of her invention. Simply cause she still thinks school will make her successful. When she already is lmao. She better wake up and fast. Most brilliant minds never finished college. They were too busy establishing their brands. 20 second cell phone charger? You've singlehandedly changed the world of battery life & cell phone usage. Yet your ass is attending Harvard. While Google/Apple is trying to take your intellect under their wing.
Now pair that with batteries that last more than 4-5 hours under steady use. That's probably my bigger beef. D:
Depends on how cumbersome the eventual device to do that would be to carry around. The video itself is rather vague on how it works since it seemed more like she made a new battery she could plug into phones than something that jump starts current batteries. If I still have to wind up plugging something in somewhere (which isn't always an option), the situation doesn't really change. At the very least, her demo version seemed small enough that a possible stringing of them together could emulate 3 batteries in one in terms of lifespan, but I also wouldn't expect them on the market anytime soon, at a fair price, and retrofitted for things like a DS.
My only hope is that since a kid did it, they SHOULDN'T be too expensive to make, but corporate greed is a bitch and I expect trouble there if someone gets exclusive rights. Hopefully the kid is more the type to want to share her knowledge with all than to cash out, which might be implied with the noted bitching on how she still intends to go to school.
I'm fine with her cashing out. She just came up with a potentially game changing invention. Stay is school but cash in those fucking royalties son.
best part of her comments about her invention "i can't wait to set the world on fire" or can i bet the law suit/compo is worth more then 50k when someone blows up a phone in there hand

PARIS — A far-right anti-gay marriage activist on Tuesday committed suicide at the altar of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, just three days after French President Francois Hollande signed into law a measure authorizing marriage and adoption by same-sex couples.
Dominique Venner
Dominique Venner, 78, a historian known for his hard-right political essays and a fierce opponent of same-sex marriage shot himself in the mouth, sending tourists fleeing in panic, reported Reuters.
Venner made no declaration as he shot himself around mid-afternoon, a police source said. He carried a letter on his person, but its contents were not released to the media.
Earlier on Tuesday, Venner had written a damning critique of the same-sex marriage bill on his blog, and appealed to readers to join a protest of the law planned for Sunday. The rambling essay was a tirade against gay marriage, but also a warned that the “population of France and Europe” was going to be “replaced” and brought under “Islamist control” and “sharia law.”
“New spectacular and symbolic actions are needed to wake up the sleep walkers and shake the anaesthetised consciousness,” he wrote. “We are entering a time when acts must follow words.”
“It’s unfortunate, it’s dramatic, it’s shocking,” the rector of Notre-Dame, Monsignor Patrick Jacquin, told the Associated Press.
I have to chuckle because a Catholic committed suicide, while denouncing the evils/sins of gay marriage.
How did a member of the tea party get all the way over there? I thought that sharia law scare bullshit was limited to the US...

At least this story has a happy ending.$138K in donations keep 91-year-old from being evicted by daughter
Sometimes the Internet can use its powers for good, and this story proves it. More than 5,000 people have donated about $138,000 to help 91-year-old John Potter save his home after his daughter said she would evict him if he couldn't buy his own house — the one he built with his own hands — back from her. "I never knew people could love an old man so much," Potter told his granddaughter, Jaclyn Fraley. Although the donations have exceeded their $125,000 goal, Fraley says that any excess money will be used to take care of him in the home. Hopefully that includes a birthday cake: Potter turns 92 on Thursday.
