Although I haven't been recently, these are actually pretty common in other places too. I know I saw 1 in a big store in Dominican Republic once, apparently they are prevalent in Mexico too, and I could have sworn the Metropolitan Mall in NYC(Queens I think) has one of these since parking and some stores are on different levels.

Confirming the Metro mall in queens. That escalator felt like it was high enough to take you to heaven.
