Is a Navy SEAL quieter than a ninja?

Six-year-old Walker Greentree is a kid in a military family who was determined to find out, so he wrote to Admiral William McRaven.

McRaven is head of U.S. Special Operations Command, credited with organizing and executing the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden, and is a Navy SEAL himself — he's without a doubt one of the deadliest men on the planet.

Surely, he would have an answer.

Here's how it all started, according to military nonprofit Blue Star Families:

One afternoon while playing with a friend in the yard, the young Greentree was scolded by his mother. "Be quiet like a SEAL," said Vivian Greentree. His friend immediately replied — as one would expect from a 7-year old. "Ninjas are quieter than SEALS." And thus, a monumental argument began. WHO is quieter? Ninjas or SEALS? SEALS or Ninjas?

Greentree wrote a letter to McRaven, and McRaven wrote back with an answer: "I think ninjas are probably quieter than SEALs, but we are better swimmers, and also better with guns and blowing things up."

Based on my own analysis there's a few points to consider:

1. Is it staged? A few recent videos suggest this might be the same, I do wonder how they ended up in such a position. Also, the McDonald's takeaway bag is absolutely hilarious in my opinion (it just enhances how pathetic the situation is); the subtitles are OK, but given how quick it came it's a somewhat more literal translation in some parts
2. I think this is a by product of Hong Kong Drama/TV, it's common to see a similar scene in such a drama where the guy is an absolute pussy
3. Given the scenario seen in the video, I would expect something similar to happen (in dramas) if something more tragic happened, such as the death of someone where usually the person kneeling is so sorry for themselves they'll take anything (usually slaps)

Two men believed to be burglarizing a safe full of fireworks were killed Tuesday when the torch they were using ignited the explosives.

Police say Lucas Bourke and Ethan Keeler, both 21, died following an explosion in a detached workshop at New Yard Landscaping in Hopkinton, N.H., according to WCVB. They were reportedly using an oxy-acetylene cutting torch to get into the 4-foot-high, concrete-lined safe.

Bourke and Keeler apparently didn't know what was in the safe. The contents turned out to be commercial-grade fireworks, CBS News reports. A neighbor told reporters that the two men had already loaded some items into a truck before they tried to cut through the safe.

The safe exploded and ripped through the building, landing outside.

"Any time you have pyrotechnics sealed in a container, when it burns, it creates very high pressure that burns very rapidly, and that's what caused the explosion," said Deputy Chief Robert Farley of the state Fire Marshal's Office.

Both of the suspects had previous brushes with the law. In May, Bourke was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol, Concord Patch reports, and Keeler was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property.

I came in here to post this. I don't know why, but this story struck me as very funny. It would have been a great candidate for the Darwin Award had they known the safe was full of fireworks prior to applying the flame.

WOODLAND PARK, Colo. (CBS4)- A woman is recovering after she stopped to see if a fawn she struck was okay only to be struck by the young deer’s mother after it was hit by another vehicle.

It happened this morning on Highway 24 near the Walmart in Woodland Park.

The woman got out of her car after she struck a fawn.

Another driver stopped to help her and that’s when a third vehicle crashed into a full-grown deer, likely the fawn’s mother.

That deer flew into the woman who struck the fawn. She was seriously injured.

Traffic along the highway was backed up for about an hour to clear up the mess.

Sounds like a Three Stooges skit lol.

Anti-Semitic Elmo Gets Prison Time for Girl Scout Extortion

The man whose anti-Semitic rants while wearing an Elmo costume in Times Square earned him Internet infamy was sentenced to a year in prison and fined $2 million on Wednesday for attempting to extort the Girl Scouts of America.

Prosecutors say Dan Sandler, 49, told Girl Scouts staff that he would falsely accuse the organization of pimping out young girls at their camps for sex with men. Sandler pleaded guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence.

But Sandler defended his actions, telling a Manhattan judge they were “more of a protest” against what he called “a very corrupt organization because of their relationship to the pharmaceutical industry.” Sandler’s attorney reportedly rolled her eyes and shrugged when asked by reporters what her client was talking about, the New York Daily News reports.

Flashback Friday: Study proves “old person smell” is real.

It’s a common stereotype that old people have a … unique … smell. According to this study, it’s a stereotype for a reason. The researchers first had young participants smell the body odors (collected as described below) of young, middle-aged, and old people. They then asked the participants to rate the odors and tested how well they were able to distinguish between them. Somewhat surprisingly, the participants rated the old-age odors as “less intense and less unpleasant” than the young- and middle-age body odors; however, the participants also had an easier time specifically identifying the old-person odors compared to the other two categories. The authors provide a potential explanation for these results: “In everyday life, the old age odor is experienced in the context of an old individual being present. Odor valence ratings are highly dependent in which on the context they are experienced. A recent study demonstrated that the label assigned to an odor is a very important predictor of the rated pleasantness in that a label can turn an unlabeled neutral odor into an odor perceived as very negative. Thus, it is likely that the body odors originating from the old individuals would have been rated as more negative if participants were aware of their true origin.”

The smell of age: perception and discrimination of body odors of different ages.

“Our natural body odor goes through several stages of age-dependent changes in chemical composition as we grow older. Similar changes have been reported for several animal species and are thought to facilitate age discrimination of an individual based on body odors, alone. We sought to determine whether humans are able to discriminate between body odor of humans of different ages. Body odors were sampled from three distinct age groups: Young (20-30 years old), Middle-age (45-55), and Old-age (75-95) individuals. Perceptual ratings and age discrimination performance were assessed in 41 young participants. There were significant differences in ratings of both intensity and pleasantness, where body odors from the Old-age group were rated as less intense and less unpleasant than body odors originating from Young and Middle-age donors. Participants were able to discriminate between age categories, with body odor from Old-age donors mediating the effect also after removing variance explained by intensity differences. Similarly, participants were able to correctly assign age labels to body odors originating from Old-age donors but not to body odors originating from other age groups. This experiment suggests that, akin to other animals, humans are able to discriminate age based on body odor alone and that this effect is mediated mainly by body odors emitted by individuals of old age.”

MANSFIELD, LA (KSLA) -Shelves in Walmart stores in Springhill and Mansfield, LA were reportedly cleared Saturday night, when the stores allowed purchases on EBT cards even though they were not showing limits.

The chaos that followed ultimately required intervention from local police, and left behind numerous carts filled to overflowing, apparently abandoned when the glitch-spurred shopping frenzy ended.

Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd confirms they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing off the shelves. He says Walmart was so packed, "It was worse than any black Friday" that he's ever seen.

Lynd explained the cards weren't showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn't press charges if she left the food.

Lynd says at 9 p.m., when the cards came back online and it was announced over the loud speaker, people just left their carts full of food in the aisles and left.

"Just about everything is gone, I've never seen it in that condition," said Mansfield Walmart customer Anthony Fuller.

Walmart employees could still be seen putting food from the carts away as late as Sunday afternoon. "I was just thinking, I'm so glad my mom doesn't work here [Walmart] anymore, that's the only thing I could think about, those employees working, that would have to restock all that stuff," said O.J Evans who took cell phone video of the overflowing shopping carts at the Mansfield Walmart.

Evans believes it was natural human reaction that led people to fill up their carts during the glitch, but Walmart shoppers Stan and Judy Garcia feel very differently. "That's plain theft, that's stealing that's all I got to say about it," said Garcia.

Lynd says contrary to rumors, nobody was unruly or arrested and they were mainly there to help prevent shoplifting and theft.

A dispatcher for Mansfield police also confirms officers were called in for crowd control at the Mansfield Walmart. She said the shelves were cleared out, forcing Walmart to stop selling food at 9 p.m. There were no arrests.

There was, however, a huge mess left behind. Pictures and videos obtained by KSLA News 12 show aisles packed with shoppers emptying the shelves in Springhill. Another video shows what appear to be at least dozens of overflowing carts left abandoned in the aisles at the Mansfield store, against the backdrop of emptied shelves in the meat department.

It all happened at the end of a day in which the EBT system went down in several states, including Louisiana. Xerox, a vendor for the EBT system, experienced a power outage while conducting a routine backup test in one of the company's locations. While the system was back up Saturday night, it appears that it was not functioning entirely properly in some areas.

Kayla Whaling, a spokesperson for Walmart, tells KSLA News 12 that the company was "fully engaged and monitoring the situation and transactions during the outage."

"We did make the decision to continue to accept EBT cards (and purchases on WIC and SNAP) during the outage so that they could get food for their families."

Asked whether Walmart would be taking the loss on any food purchased on the cards that did not show limits, or on the perishable food left behind in carts, Whaling would only say that "we monitored transactions during the outage."

A spokesperson for the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services says they take all allegations of potential fraud seriously, they are aware of the reports and they will be investigating.

TL;DR-- From 7-9pm, customers at this Wal-Mart were having EBT purchases rung up without showing a limit. Store calls Wal-Mart corporate to ask them what to do, corporate tells them to go ahead and let people use it anyway. Chaos ensues while people stuff their carts. Police are called to help maintain order. When it starts working properly again around 9pm, people abandon entire carts full of food in the aisle and leave. I hate people.

Why do you hate people? Walmart said it was ok and to go ahead, and these families are poor and struggle to put food on the table as is. Why wouldn't they do it when Mr. Wally World basically says "Go ahead and defraud us, we're not gonna hold it against you".
