    http://www.12newsnow.com/story/23930...ted-by-teacher

12-year-old Reginald Wells says something happened Friday between him and one of his teachers at Willie Ray Smith Middle School that still blows his mind.
"The last person's voice I heard was some girl saying that I should call my mom, and then he like hit me, and I blacked out," Reginald said in an exclusive interview with 12News Sunday.

Reginald, a 7th grader, says Friday afternoon he stopped in the hallway to chat with an assistant teacher from his math class. He says he cracked a joke about the teacher's favorite football team.

"All of a sudden he just hit me, in my shoulder... and I looked at him like 'what the heck?'"

Standing 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 80 pounds, Reginald says he then pushed the teacher's shoulder. That's when he claims the teacher blindsided him with a punch to the face that knocked him out. He says he woke up a few seconds later.

"The left side of my face was numb... my lip hurt... my head was hurt, like it had been shaken."

Reginald's mother Adrianne says she was briefed by the principal about what happened, based on what another teacher says he saw.

"(The principal) said Reginald was punched, in the shoulder, and then hit two times and uppercut, and then slid across the floor," Adrianne said. "It weighed heavy on my heart, because I've never put my hands on my son."

Adrianne says the teacher was escorted off the premises and fired on the spot, but before that, Reginald says the teacher said something to him.

"He said 'I can't apologize for what I did, I was just having a bad day and I just snapped.'"

Adrianne says she cannot believe the teacher was not arrested.

"For you to just let a teacher do that to him and just walk off, he's fired and walks off, I can't accept that."

Adrianne filed a report with BISD police and wants to press charges, but says no one with the school district has contacted her since Friday. She says she is now seeking legal representation.

"I'm just not understanding. I know there's a lot going on with BISD, but first priority is to protect the kids."

12News has placed several calls to BISD Police Chief Clydell Duncan but as of 11 p.m. Sunday our calls have not been returned.

12News contacted BISD spokesman Ron Reynolds, who said he was not aware of the incident but said he will look into it Monday. Reynolds also told 12News to contact BISD assistant superintendent Patricia Lambert, but several phone calls placed to her have not been returned as of Sunday.

Flight Passengers Stage Protest After Blind Man Gets Ejected

Passengers aboard a U.S. Airways Express flight from Philadelphia to Long Island's MacArthur Airport staged a protest on Wednesday after flight personnel allegedly hassled a blind man over his guide dog.

The plane had apparently been waiting on the runway for nearly two hours, causing Albert Rizzi's increasingly restless guide dog, Doxy, to come creeping out from his designated place under Rizzi's seat. A flight attendant reportedly told Rizzi that the dog needed to stay put, or the plane would not take off. The dog refused to cooperate, and both Rizzi and his canine companion were booted from the flight. But Rizzi's fellow passengers decided that if he couldn't fly, they wouldn't, either.

“Security comes on and they go to take this gentleman off the plane with his dog,” passenger Frank Ohlhorst told CBS New York. “So when we, the passengers, realize what was going on, we were like ‘why is this happening? He’s not a problem."

According to the airline, Rizzi became verbally abusive when told his dog needed to stay seated, NBC Philadelphia reports. Passengers, tired of the prolonged wait to begin their 40-minute flight, were growing agitated—some on behalf of Rizzi, some from sheer impatience. Feeling threatened, the crew opted to cancel the flight, and all 35 passengers wound up taking the bus to Long Island instead.

Rizzi wrote his account of the story on his Facebook page:

I cannot believe how humbled I am to know that 35 people got off the plane with me in solidarity. They all got off the plane because it was the right thing to do. They all got off the plane because the flight attendant misrepresented the entire situation. They all got off the plane, because Doxy and I were discriminated against, and mistreated for reasons that are unknown to me.

Thanks again to each and every person who chose to sit on a bus for nearly 4 hours, then take a cab or drive others home after getting back to Long Island, thanks for speaking out to management, thanks for refusing to take that flight home unless I an Doxy were back on the plane, thanks for telling the flight attendant that she was wrong, thanks for asking for her dismissal, and most of all thanks for not taking the easy way out, and turning an intentional blind eye to what happened and flying home without me. The flight was cancelled by all the people who purchased the ticket to fly this evening, and not because of anything due to mechanical failure. It was cancelled due to human kindness.

The post box is always selected to type in and he uses a braille keyboard.

I'm sure it is a family member that helps them use it. Nice story. Much better than the idiotic things that usually come through here.

There are programs that help with voice and braille keyboards.

Also, he may be severely low-vision (which still gets classified as blind) and uses a screen magnifier.

For a little better clarification, I am legally blind in one eye and only have 30% vision in the other (inability to focus, not true lack of vision). I still do everything that other people do and can see just fine with corrective lenses. The depth perception is a slight problem but I have learned to compensate and have passed vision tests for driving, flying an aircraft, and operating various types of heavy equipment. According to the law, I could have a guide dog with me at all times, and here I am typing a message on a gaming website that I visit every day, after having loaded 2 trucks full of cardboard with a forklift....but I am blind.

You can fly, but I can't because I'm colorblind? Damn.

Alright heres another feel good story.

SF Morphs Into Gotham City for "Batkid" Battling Leukemia

The 12,000 volunteers who donned superhero capes and morphed San Francisco into Gotham City can’t make sure a California boy will stay clear of leukemia for the rest of his life.

But, in handing the 5-year-old the key to the city on Friday, they sure gave him every boy’s dream-come-true for a few hours and a memory for a lifetime.

After the Batphone rang at the Grand Hyatt hotel, Miles – a shy kindergartner with bright blue eyes who is in remission from his cancer – became “Batkid,” complete with mask, cape and puffy fake muscles. Wearing Velcro sneakers, Miles exited his Lamborghini-turned-Batmobile, but only after unstrapping himself from his car seat. (Safety first, Robin.)

"He's just the cutest," said Jackie Johnston, one of the hundreds of fans who had come out to watch.

But Miles isn't just cute. He's a cancer survivor. And in the eyes of the world, he's a hero.

He jumped on a trampoline to give him a little extra boost and untied a "damsel in distress," sitting on the cable car tracks on Hyde Street, a plastic box of what looked like explosives strapped to her back. Of course, the 5-year-old didn't know exactly what to do at first, but was aided by his partner in good deeds, Batman – one of the many volunteer actors participating in the event.

The crowds went wild, cheering, clapping and ringing bells.

"He's great, he did such a great job," said Mario Martinez, who came to watch, holding his own son in his arms.

After that caper, Batkid went on to apprehend the Riddler, chase the Penguin, and stop at Burger Bar in Union Square to fuel up. And then, like every good superhero does - he was poised to accept the key to the city from the mayor, in this case, Ed Lee.

Miles, whose parents asked that his last name not be revealed, has been a bit shy about talking through all this. – a dream-turned-reality – thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the Bay Area. In some brief interviews before his big day – which had been a surprise – Miles simply said his wish was to be Batman, a character he regularly slips into during his rough-and-tumble escapades in his hometown of Tulelake, Siskyou County, near the Oregon border.

But his mom, Natalie, said this dream is emblematic of her son’s battle with leukemia.

“He likes to be a superhero,” she said. “He is one. He beat an awful disease.”

All this is happening because of what happened after Patricia Wilson of the Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area Foundation sent an email in October asking for some volunteers to help give Miles his wish. She's part of a national organization that grants children with life-threatening illnesses their wishes. Her chapter opened in 1984 and now grants about 300 wishes a year.

But this wish request was different. Wilson's email request to turn San Francisco into Gotham City went viral. And between 11,000 and 12,000 volunteers came to contribute their efforts, whether it was acting, being stage crew or assisting in a myriad of other ways.

"Obviously, we’ll never replicate this," Wilson said. "This is a moment in time when something goes viral and the city goes alive."
