600 People Involved in Movie Theater Brawl, 5 Arrested
    ABC News
By Russell Goldman 5 hours ago

Five teenagers were arrested when a 600-person brawl broke out in a Florida movie theater's parking lot on Christmas night.

Described by police as a "melee," the fight occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday outside the Hollywood River City 14 movie theater in Jacksonville when a group tried to storm the theater's doors without purchasing tickets, police said. Several had rushed an off-duty police officer working as a security guard.

The officer "administered pepper spray to disperse the group, locked the doors and called for backup, following protocol," said Lauri-Ellen Smith, a spokeswoman for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Soon after the pepper spray was used, "upward of 600 people moving throughout a parking lot about the size of a football field began fighting, disrupting and jumping on cars," she said.

Sixty-two police officers were called to the scene to break up the brawl, "sequestering them and separating them," Smith said.

Only minor injuries and damage to property were reported. No gunshots were fired, according to Smith.

All five of the people arrested on the scene were charged with crimes related to fighting. Three of those arrested, including one minor, were charged with felonies. Two other juveniles, who have not been named by police, were charged with misdemeanors.

Tevyn Alonza Davis, 19, was charged with resisting arrest and breach of the peace. Jaquade Marquis Miller, 18, was charged with fighting and resisting arrest. Khalil Ahmad Bradley, 17, the only minor charged with a felony, was arrested for resisting arrest, refusal to disperse and breach of the peace.

Davis and Bradley each "took a fighting stance" when confronted by police and told to leave the area, according to arrest reports. Miller, too, "took an aggressive stance" when told by police to leave the parking lot.

According to the movie theater's website, the cinema was showing "Tyler Perry's A Medea Christmas," "47 Ronin," "Grudge Match," "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" along with several other movies.
    Welp, there's the problem.

Resist of arrest and a breach of peace.........I highly respect most cops but those two laws are complete bullshit. Have a drinking buddy who is a cop that likes to brag about just how much power he has over people because of these types of laws.

    Also fuck those kids.

wtf are you even ranting about? From reading that the punks were fighting, cops told them to go home, kids said fuck da police and got arrested. Typically Resisting is used to start and then they either drop it through plea or once more evidence is gathered they toss on more charges. In this case here resisting arrest and disturbing the peace are perfectly acceptable charges.

This is the bullshit he was ranting about. Cops have the ability to wreck people's lives for no reason other than they fucking feel like it. Most people have neither the legal knowledge nor the money to hire a lawyer to fight that kind of bullshit, so they get bullied by the justice system and end up with a record they don't deserve.

Obviously not all cases of resisting arrest are bullshit, but as you so conveniently pointed out, it's frequently used as a tool, and not as an "honest" charge.

It's the fact that they are overly abused and used as fear tactics against people.

I read the article and I am sure I put what I thought about the kids clearly.

Disorderly Conduct is probably one of the hardest charges to prove in court and is similar to other jurisdictions breach of peace laws and failure to move along. I'm not sure where the "felonies" came from but all of those charges listed are misdemeanors (at least in D.C.) unless they have compounding laws on the books; I.E. PDW - Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (misdemeanor) in conjunction with possession of drugs (also a misdemeanor) but the two aggregate and are a felony if both are charging factors in an arrest. Resisting arrest is a misdemeanor across the board unless it's Assault on a Police Officer (APO) and even those are hard to stick unless you beat the snot out of the cop.

I want to say the best defense in this case is pure offense. There's case law out there that show whenever someone is involved in a mob like the size of this one can be 1. victims of circumstance, 2. victims of improper tactics/escalation by law enforcement, and 3. victims of mob mentality. There's no way a reasonable judge can make charges stick unless the government can prove the ones charged enticed the riot or their actions directly influenced police action.

Not to say the cops were wrong in this one by any means but I doubt any of those charges will stick. Unless the media is saying all three charges combined together are felonies, there's no "ruining of lives" by any means since none of the charges are crimes of violence and can be expunged.

Father is retired Lt, Mother was a reserve, brother is going in after he finishes his bachelors in criminal justice. Only reason I didn't go in is my shoulder is prone to dislocations so I could never pass the bench 80% of your bodyweight test.

Plus also studying to go into Probation, so yea just because I don't wear a badge doesn't mean I don't know law Archi.

You would be suprised. We opened Dhoom 3 last week (some bollywood movie) and have had it selling out in the evening. Indians have brought out my latent racism. No matter how many lines you have, they just mob the place. Think its mostly because they are trying to sneak people in at the box or steal crap from the concession stand. Sold out show? They'll just buy for another movie and try to get in the auditorium hey want. Our theatre is 17 screens and on a good weekend we might have 20 employees working at the time. But when you get 1000 people through the door in a span of less than an hour, you are always on the brink of chaos.

I guess it's just a bigger city problem, then. My mom worked as a manager for a cinema for a couple years (yay free movies~) and of all the times I'd been there, the busiest was its grand opening. So, while I can understand anticipated films getting crowds on opening weekends, this may be a point where staggering start times helps. Not sure I'd ever go to a midnight showing in winter, but I need to remember Florida doesn't know what winter is, too.

    Was this posted?

    http://arstechnica.com/security/2013...ach-at-target/

UPDATE Thursday 5:34am CT: In a statement posted to its website early Thursday morning, Target acknowledged that "approximately 40 million credit and debit card accounts may have been impacted between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, 2013," adding that the company is "partnering with a leading third-party forensics firm to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident."
Was looking over my bank accounts and reconciling statements when I noticed a charge to cewcs.com for just under $10 and I've never even heard of that website, nor have I purchased anything online that wasn't from Steam in like months. Google immediately pointed me towards several articles like the above. The site itself is offline but yeah, my card was expiring in april anyways so I guess I get to go through the process of disputing this and getting a new card earlier. Yay.

Basically if you've shopped at a Target in November or December, check your statements for this crap. My trip in particular was on 11/12, which is earlier than the window they've given but considering I've seen several message board posts/articles about charges to that particular site and it being linked to the breach at Target, that has to be it.

Is this in India by any chance? I'm surprised Western Indians in US or UK would behave up to such a point. I know them well enough on and offshore to know what they're like, but as Arus said it might be a city/location problem... also depending on Cinema but I guess you guys show Bollywood films not in India, then it must've been one of the cinemas that all asians know about in the immediate area, hence the crowd.

Besides, I'm also surprised they're all that excited for a shitty Bollywood film (I'm aware of the actors and the popularity of the previous 2). I watched Dhoom 1 and 2 [under recommendation from my offshore Indian colleagues) and while it's entertaining up to a point, it's just basically a big budget lame/over the top (like most of their films) action movie with big names in it. The actresses can't go topless, and (I personally hate musicals which is how I look at ) we get interrupted from the film to see a random traditional 5 min song/dance scene.

Where's that guy on here with the gif of a man ripping out another man from a jeep that's rolled and put him on the floor... lol

I like how your reasoning for being surprised other people are into it is because you don't care for it lol That's their thing bro. The whole country loves the over the top action and musical numbers. And I'm assuming the people that went out to see it in the US or wherever Xantavia is from are the ones who grew up on bollywood movies and still care to go see them.
