    Spider invasion prompts Mazda recall
Petrol-sniffing spiders have forced Mazda to issue a voluntary recall notice so it can apply a software fix to its cars.

The yellow sac spider is attracted to the smell of petrol, and will weave its web in engines, causing a blockage and build-up of pressure.

The problem increased the risk of fire, Mazda said.

A software update will be applied to recalled cars to monitor the pressure level and warn drivers of any danger.

Mazda said it was unaware of any fires being started due to the vulnerability, but it has been a problem that has plagued the company since at least 2009.

Specifically, it is Mazda 6s from the 2010-12 range that are covered by this latest recall.

It involves around 42,000 vehicles, according to filings made to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In the documents, Mazda explained: "A certain type of spider may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent line, potentially causing a restriction in the line.

"If this occurs, the fuel tank pressure may become excessively negative when the emission control system works to purge the vapours from the canister.

"As the canister is purged repeatedly during normal operation, the stress on the fuel tank may eventually result in a crack, potentially leading to fuel leakage and an increased risk of fire."

Owners of cars affected would have the fault fixed free of charge, the company added.

In 2011, Mazda attempted to address the the problem by fitting covers over engine vents to prevent the spiders crawling in - but this was only partially effective, with particularly determined yellow sacs still setting up their homes in the vehicles.

When asked by the New York Times why the spiders were causing so much trouble, a Mazda spokesman said: "Don't ask me, I'm terrified of the damn things."

A pregnant Florida woman delivered her baby in a motel bathtub, and that's the least bizarre thing about the circumstances of the child's entry into this mad, mad, mad, mad world.

Chrystal Hassell, 37, had checked into an Ocala, Fla., motel room with her boyfriend and her 11-month-old child, and proceeded to smoke crack for an entire day. Although she was only 7 months pregnant, she started going into labor.

Hassell's boyfriend, Vincent Terry, had left the motel to run an errand, so she delivered the baby herself in the motel bathtub, chewing through the umbilical cord with her teeth.

Afterward, she called Terry and asked him to come back, but he was pulled over for speeding on the way. An officer might have been understanding under the circumstances, but Terry was wanted for attempted murder in Colorado, News 13 reported.

Hassell waited an hour before calling 911, giving the baby breaths to keep it alive, investigators say. She's being charged with child neglect.

The unfortunate baby was airlifted to a Gainesville hospital in critical condition, and the 11-month-old has been placed in foster care. Both parents are now in jail in Marion County.

Texting Driver Who Slammed Cyclist: I, Like, 'Just Don't Care'
The Huffington Post | by Andy Campbell

    Poor Kimberley Davis.

The 21-year-old Australian woman was livid when she slammed into a bicyclist while texting late last year, putting dents in her car. The victim suffered a spinal fracture and would spend the next three months in a hospital, but Davis wasn't having any of it, The Standard reports.

"I just don’t care because I’ve already been through a lot of bullshit and my car is, like, pretty expensive and now I have to fix it," she told a responding officer two days after the Sept. 20 collision. "I’m kind of pissed off that the cyclist has hit the side of my car. I don’t agree that people texting and driving could hit a cyclist. I wasn’t on my phone when I hit the cyclist."

Davis, of Port Fairy, pleaded guilty on Monday to dangerous driving and was fined $4,500. Police say she used her phone behind the wheel 44 times before running down the cyclist. She called emergency responders but parked more than 300 feet away from the victim and refused to offer him help.

Davis couldn't contain her sadness after the loss of her license, and she made her woes known on Facebook:

    http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1741694/th...DAVIS1-570.jpg
    http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1741706/th...DAVIS2-570.jpg
    http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1741716/th...DAVIS3-570.jpg

The photo above appears to show that Davis expects to get her license back in May. She won't -- a judge on Monday suspended her license for another nine months.

The wife of the injured cyclist -- who got spinal surgery and was told he could have been a paraplegic -- said she was deeply disappointed that Davis' license wasn't suspended for longer.

One minute, a man with a knife was allegedly chasing somebody around a convenience store parking lot.

The next, he was in the store lining up to buy potato chips.

An armed assailant with the munchies was the scenario Regina police said they encountered Friday on the 2100 block of Broad St.

Around 5 a.m. CST, police rushed to the store after a caller said he had been chased around the parking lot by a knife-wielding man.

When they arrived, the man had left. Officers went into the store to examine the surveillance video which showed the suspect.

As they were leaving the store, believed to be the 7-Eleven at Broad St. and 14th Avenue, they spotted the suspect in the line at the till, purchasing a bag of chips.

    The suspect was promptly arrested.

The 18-year-old will be charged with carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a weapon dangerous to the public and assault with a weapon, police said.
Mastermind in the making, that one.

I know that was a joke but man that's like the most disrespectful thing.

I once read an old superstition that if you steal from the dead you will die soon. So if the woman turns up dead soon you know why.
