They exploited poor kids to do their yearly inspirational porn piece. There's plenty of these studies done every year that poor people are more empathetic and unselfish than those that are well off. My comment on Xmas spirit is more of a jab at this type of material-centric shit being exactly what it's all about, which is sad.
I'd rather they "exploit" a few poor kids by giving them and their parents gifts in a piece that could potentially cast poor people in a better light than do the whole people-on-welfare-are-lazy bit.
We don't need to jerk around a few kids' emotions every Christmas to show that they are deserving of rich folks' compassion, though.
I guess heartwarming in a sense, but I actually did find that video pretty cruel when I saw it.
"Hey poor kids! What do you want for Christmas lol?"
"How about your mom?"
...
"We got you a presentttttttttt! It's exactly what you wanted and you can't reasonably expect to obtain it any other way because you're poor. Oh, or you could take this present for your mom."
That's a pretty hard decision for a kid, and the reason it's hard is intrinsically linked to their SES. It would be a very different situation if they were upper-middle class kids that might have an X-box 360 under the tree already. Also, I wonder how many kids made the other choice and thus didn't make the cut for the video.
Maybe that's the difference, then. I don't really watch videos unless I have to. I just read the articles.
https://news.vice.com/article/cheese...icenewstwitterThe small Alpine town of Albertville, which is best known for having hosted the 1992 Winter Olympics, has recently become home to a new type of power plant — one that turns cheese into electricity.
In a large snow-white globe on the edge of town, bacteria bred in whey, the liquid that remains after milk has been curdled and strained to make cheese, are hard at work generating biogas: a clean, renewable energy source that can also be used to produce electricity.
"We can power a city of 1,500," said local dairy farmer Yvon Brochet, who is also the president of the Beaufort Producers Union.[/B]
God, I love cheese; even if it doesn't love me.

A father’s desperate – but dangerous – strategy to keep his ‘brain dead’ son on life support
“Hey, we need the police stat, to the hospital. We have a family member with a gun.”
This is the call that a staff member at Tomball Regional Medical Center put in 11 months ago, when George Pickering of Pinehurst, Tex., angrily pulled out a 9 mm handgun while standing at his son’s hospital bedside.
Gary Hammond, Tomball police’s head of criminal investigations, told the Houston Chronicle at the time that Pickering was “distraught” over the care his son, George Pickering III, was receiving. The younger Pickering was on life support after having a stroke.
“They were moving too fast. The hospital, the nurses, the doctors,” Pickering told KPRC. “I knew if I had three or four hours that night that I would know whether George was brain dead.”
No one was listening, Pickering said, so he bided his time the only way he could think of — by pulling out a gun.
“At that point I had blinders on,” said Pickering, who admitted that he was drunk while the incident unfolded. “All I knew I just needed to have this time with George.”
His desperate strategy worked. During the hours in which Pickering refused to leave his son’s room even at the behest of SWAT officers, he felt his son squeeze his hand several times on command. With confirmation that his son was responsive and wasn’t brain dead as doctors believed, Pickering peacefully surrendered.

Partying at Olive Garden on NYE Will Set You Back $400
http://firstwefeast.com/eat/olive-ga...s-400-dollars/
According to the list of other restaurants in the article, eating at Guy's restaurant is actually cheaper if you split the bill lolThe ticket doesn’t include Olive Garden’s basket of buttery carbs.
Instead, the ticket covers a buffet meal (which likely includes vats of fettucine alfredo), a DJ, and an open bar so that attendees can get hammered on Italian Margaritas. While the restaurant is located in Times Square, don’t expect a view of the ball drop. “It’s a limited view,” says restaurant manager Michael Garver.
So are we going to flavor town?!
Spoiler: show
"vats of fettuccine alfredo" does not seem appetizing and I'm pretty sure that won't end well.
the reviews for guy fieris rest are awful but 139$ for an open bar and an appetizer buffet isnt that bad, all things considered.
Hell, I'd pay the $139 just for the open bar.
64-story tall Address Hotel in Dubai lit up in flames. Officials still plan on going ahead with fireworks celebration in 15 minutes.

A good image of how big the fire is and the scale comparing to the Burj (tallest building in the world) behind it.
Edit: CNN had this great angle for when the clock hit midnight of the hotel burning on the right side of the screen, and the Burj doing it's New Years fireworks display on the left side.
I can't help but lol at all this. Good news is no reported deaths and only about 14 injured
