Full cost of the phone split between 30 payments, no interest. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc. are all pretty much doing this now to get away from subsidizing phones. Between mine and my wife's phone (monthly bill on it is like 32 bucks each) + the two lines with 20gb data, taxes, and fee's i'm paying 190. Once the phones are paid off, will drop to about 125ish.

Been a couple of years since I got a phone but full cost of is $900 now? Geez. Either way seems like way too many payments for that amount. So what is it like instead of doing a crappy contract for a discount you pay full amount but get I assume better prices for the service? Only done 1 line so not sure how that compares to mine but sounds like it's better so might have to look into it... minus the excessively long payment plan lol

Before they were subsidized by the phone companies and in exchange you paid a slightly higher monthly service fee and signed up for a 1 or 2 year contract. Now they got rid of the contracts and the subsidized phones and just give you interest free financing on the phones full price.

In the long run this new system saves you a little money and gives you more flexibility with your plans because you can change them or change carriers at any time without any contracts.

Not always... the S3 I have now was a little under $600 full price and that was like 3-4 years ago. s7 edge looks like 650-800 depending where you get it probably less for non edge but smaller battery

ok you are splitting hairs here on the price. phones have a wide range of prices when they first come out depending on model. I just meant that back in the day you sign a contract and pay like $100-$200 for a smart phone or get a non smart phone free rather than the current system where you have to pay the full price for the phone and it is financed interest free for you.

Not really splitting hairs. The original point you responded to was my shock at that price now and though not explicitly stated was heavily implied to be compared to what I've previously paid (well not really paid but would've paid if I paid full retail). And yes 50% increase is a rather huge difference. The rest I get obviously since I was asking to confirm if that was the case

You also have to realize I'm paying for two iPhone 6s+ 128gb models. That's an extra 200ish per phone over the 16gb model

We are not comparing the price on a specific phone model though. You are comparing the total cost of two different phones. Of course they are going to have different total prices. Even the same model phone can have a wide range of prices depending on how much internal storage you get among other options. The total unsubsidized price for phones has always been relatively high compared to what you would pay if you were doing the subsidized phone thing.

Haven't let go of my Oneplus One yet either. The new 3 looks good, but not a big enough bump for me to want to upgrade.

I must admit I'm tempted to buy a Blackberry Priv. The nostalgic allure of a Blackberry keyboard with current Android OS is tempting. I'm building a new house though...my wife would murder me if I bought a new phone before we close.

To be fair though, the truck driver was making a legal left hand turn which intersects oncoming traffic. Tesla driver was probably not paying any attention to take over when autopilot couldn't sense the truck.

Yeah, that seems like a scenario where I would be paying special attention of the road, auto-pilot or not.

I am honestly surprised it took this long. The number of miles accumulated with the auto pilot do all the thinking while 'drivers' read, nap, text, whatever has to be pretty high.
