I was also born a month "early" but I was a pretty large baby. I have health issues, but nothing that can be traced to the circumstances of my birth. I say "early" in quotes because I was clearly done being a fetus. I just took less time than most babies. 9 months is more of an estimate than a rule.

Pretty big difference between un-induced early labor/emergencies vs just popping the kid out early for no medical reason. Everything in medicine operates on probability, which is why anecdotes are beyond useless. They'll probably be fine, but the mother still raised the odds of complications for purely selfish reasons.

10 days before her due date and she was already in prelabor. That's not gonna do shit. What chronic illness could the kid get from that, I don't understand.

    http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2..._pregnancy.php
A Minneapolis man discovered that his daughter was pregnant after Target started sending her coupons for baby clothes and cribs, according to an eye-opening New York Times story.

The story chronicles how Target builds complex profiles of its customers, assigning each of them a "Guest ID" and studying their purchase choices to predict future sales opportunities. Pregnancy presents a pointed opportunity to change buying behavior, so Target's algorithms are particularly good at identifying new customers by the second trimester.

At first, the father was upset at Target, because he thought the retailer was encouraging his daughter to get pregnant by sending her coupons for young mothers.
"My daughter got this in the mail!" he said. "She's still in high school, and you're sending her coupons for baby clothes and cribs? Are you trying to encourage her to get pregnant?"

The manager didn't have any idea what the man was talking about. He looked at the mailer. Sure enough, it was addressed to the man's daughter and contained advertisements for maternity clothing and nursery furniture, with pictures of smiling infants. The manager apologized and then called a few days later to apologize again.

On the phone, though, the father was somewhat abashed. "I had a talk with my daughter," he said. "It turns out there's been some activities in my house I haven't been completely aware of. She's due in August. I owe you an apology."
But Target didn't stop the creepy target marketing -- it just got sneakier about it.
"With the pregnancy products, though, we learned that some women react badly," the executive said. "Then we started mixing in all these ads for things we knew pregnant women would never buy, so the baby ads looked random. We'd put an ad for a lawn mower next to diapers. We'd put a coupon for wineglasses next to infant clothes. That way, it looked like all the products were chosen by chance.

"And we found out that as long as a pregnant woman thinks she hasn't been spied on, she'll use the coupons. She just assumes that everyone else on her block got the same mailer for diapers and cribs. As long as we don't spook her, it works."

    Mediocre story, awesome title:

Police Find Crack In Suspect's Butt
Florida police arrested and charged a 28-year-old man with possession of cocaine after they found crack in, well, his crack, according to Martin County Sheriff's Office records obtained by the TCPalm.

Ramon Blair was taken into police custody on Feb. 13 after an informant told officers that a man with $100 worth of crack cocaine "on his person" would be with a woman in a white four-door Pontiac with no hubcaps. Police stopped the vehicle just before 11 p.m. and found Blair, who had cocaine residue in his right nostril, according to WPBF 25 News.

A second informant told police that Blair had approximately $300 worth of crack cocaine on him, but a search on the scene turned up no results.

While in custody, officers did a more thorough search of Blair. When they asked him to undress, squat, and cough. Police then noticed what seemed to be a "wad of white paper" in Blair's buttocks.

Blair told police that the paper -- which is referred to as "paper towel" in police records -- contained crack cocaine.

Beware the 250-pound Man Seeking Piggyback Rides from High School Athletes

Sherwin Shayegan is a serial piggybacker known as the Piggyback Bandit. And he has been spotted in Minnesota.

Shayegan, 28, likes to show up at high school sporting events and jump on the players' backs. He is not shy about this -- his Facebook page asks you to "Give me a piggyback ride!" (It also says Sherwin wants to meet "good looking boys. Preferably at libraries when no one else is around.")

In other words, he is one of the creepiest mofos you will ever meet. So creepy that mere reports of his presence in the state were enough for the Minnesota State High School League to ban him from attending high school sporting events.

As Forbes puts it, "The Seattle native has cut a piggybacking swath across the Pacific Northwest." He's been banned from high school games in Washington, Montana, North Dakota, and now Minnesota. On February 1, he plead guilty to two counts of misdemeanor assault for piggybacking two players during a high school soccer tournament last October.

He was in North Dakota earlier this week. Jim Haussler, director of Bismarck public school activities, described Shayegan's behavior to KXNews thusly:

He was at three events girls and boys games at Century against St. Mary's high school, he was also at the Century Fargo South hockey game. And the behavior that was reported to us was that there were a number attempts to get piggyback rides and he was successful at a couple of them. Tried to make his way to locker rooms and was stopped.
Then on Wednesday he was spotted in Moorhead, pouring water for the players during the St. Olaf-Concordia basketball game. A St. Olaf coached asked him to leave the area because he was creeping everyone out. Shayegan, atypically, obliged.

He continues traveling east, inexorably. The Star Tribune reports Shayegan was seen in St. Cloud on Thursday and Minneapolis today, prompting the high school league to preemptively ban him from high school events. Perhaps by the time you read this he'll be in St. Paul.

So, high school athletes -- especially those of you with games tonight -- beware. Because the Piggyback Bandit is out there, and you never know whose back he'll jump on next.

Banker Leaves 1% Tip On $133 Lunch Bill In Defiance of 'The 99%' [UPDATED]

    First Posted: 02/24/2012 5:39 pm Updated: 02/24/2012 10:50 pm

A banker left a 1% tip in defiance of 'the 99%' at a Newport Beach restaurant the other week, according to his dining companion and underling who snapped a photo of the receipt and posted it to his blog, Future Ex Banker. (Update: the blog is now offline.)

In posting the photo, the employee gave some background on his boss and the receipt:

Mention the “99%” in my boss’ presence and feel his wrath. So proudly does he wear his 1% badge of honor that he tips exactly 1% every time he feels the server doesn’t sufficiently bow down to his Holiness. Oh, and he always makes sure to include a “tip” of his own.

The "tip" of his own in this case was to tell the server to "get a real job." Pleasant.

The whistleblower's Future Ex-Banker blog (now offline) included additional background on his boss, and some insight into why he would out his gross behavior, likely resulting in an employment status of current ex-banker:

I work in the corporate office of a major bank for a boss who represents everything wrong with the financial industry: blatant disregard and outright contempt for everyone and everything he deems beneath him. On top of that, he’s a complete and utter tool. At the same time, I’m still cashing paychecks, an admittedly willing—albeit reluctant—cog in the wheel of this increasingly ugly industry, so I’ve created this blog as a confessional of sorts. It won’t entirely clear my conscience, but hopefully it’ll help. I’m sure I’ll get fired eventually. Until then, enjoy.

UPDATE: In a conversation with the Huffington Post, Mike Wilcox, the vice president of operations for True Food Kitchen, gave some insight into how the company was treating the incident since the receipt began receiving attention online. Wilcox said that the restaurant was "absolutely" treating the receipt as real, but to confirm its authenticity for certain, they were in the process of tracking down both the physical receipt at the restaurant and the computer-generated copy in their credit card system.

"The first thing we're going to do is to make sure the server is taken care of," Wilcox said, "and make sure the server wasn't treated badly or insufficiently tipped." He explained that they would be asking Breanna, the server named on the receipt, if she recalled the table and how her service was. "If her service was up to the level" they assume their employees would deliver, Wilcox said, "they would do everything they can to make it up to her somehow." Referring to online comments posted about the receipt, Wilcox remarked, "people are asking us to ban the person from the restaurant -- if more information came through on who the person is I first would love to talk to him."

UPDATE II: As many have noted, a true 1% tip correctly rounded to the nearest penny would have been $1.34, leaving this tip just shy of that threshold, mathematically speaking.

Unsecured login information for a chat feature on YouPorn, one of the most popular pornography sites on the Internet, has revealed the email addresses and passwords for some of its users, the Associated Press reports.

While the AP could not confirm the number of accounts that had been compromised, Anders Nilsson of the security solutions company EuroSecure, wrote on his blog that login information for more than one million accounts was made public on Tuesday.

Kate Miller, a spokesperson for Manwin Holding SARL, YouPorn's parent company, emphasized in an email to The Huffington Post that YouPorn was not hacked, but that its third-party chat service "failed to take the appropriate precautions in securing its user data" and has since been taken offline pending an investigation.

"Until then, YouPorn continues to ensure that all appropriate measures and tools are in place to maintain the security of its infrastructure, and to safeguard the privacy of its users," Miller said in a statement to HuffPost.

She added in a phone call that "YouPorn is operating the way it should."

Still, many email addresses and associated passwords have now been made available online.

Sophos's Graham Cluley notes on the serendipitously named blog "Naked Security" that beyond the potential humiliation of having one's email address associated with YouPorn, the users' other accounts that share this login information could be compromised.

    From Naked Security:

So, if your YouPorn password is now known, hackers might try that same password against your email address, your PayPal account, your Amazon account, and all many of other online resources.
Writing for Forbes, Kashmir Hill references a tag cloud created by Ashkan Soltani, an independent researcher and consultant who focuses on privacy and security, that shows some of the most popular passwords seen in a sample of the leaked data.

According to Nilsson, the leak was probably caused by a programming error that made a debugging log -- which collected usernames and passwords, among other data -- publicly viewable.

YouPorn is the 98th most popular site in the U.S. and the 96th most popular website in the world, according to Alexa.

Miller said that Luxembourg-based Manwin, which acquired YouPorn in May 2011, is the world's largest network of adult websites, with more than 60 million visitors to its sites each day.

Earlier this month, a person claiming to be a 17-year-old hacker in Morocco said he had accessed the personal information of users of a Brazzers-operated adult site, which Manwin also owns.
