No one was murdered in El Salvador on Saturday, officials said, in what was the first homicide-free day in nearly three years for the Central American country plagued by violent drug gangs.

"After years when the number of murders reached alarming levels of up to 18 per day, we saw not one homicide in the country," President Mauricio Funes said in a statement released on Sunday. The murder-free day was the first recorded since leftist Funes took office in June 2009.

At the beginning of Funes' term, the country had an average of 12 murders a day, but that tally climbed closer to 18 per day in early 2012.

Rival gangs operating in El Salvador called a truce last month and bloodshed between the country's two most powerful gangs, Mara Salvatrucha and gang Mara 18, has abated.

According to United Nations data, El Salvador has recently tallied a homicide rate of 66 per 100,000 people, one of the highest in the world.

Much of that violence is blamed on Mexican drug cartels that use the country as a transit point.

Funes, who attended this weekend's Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia, credited his government's security measures for the drop in violence.

Funes has recently ordered the military to pick up routine security duties.

A US appeals court has ruled a woman can sue a dead man whose body parts struck her after he was hit by a speeding train.

Hiroyuki Joho, 18, was killed while rushing through the rain with an umbrella to catch a commuter train in Edgebrook near Chicago in September 2008.

He was struck and killed by the speeding Amtrak train and his body severed on impact, reports the Chicago Tribune.

A large part of his body was hurled onto the southbound platform of the station where it struck Gayane Zokhrabov, 58, who was on her way to work.

The impact caused her to fall, breaking her wrist and leg and injuring her shoulder.

Zokhrabov tried to sue Joho's estate, but the lawsuit was thrown out of a Cook County court by a judge who ruled the young man could not be responsible for the woman's injuries.

This week a state court overturned the ruling. The woman's lawyer said the gruesome details of the case did not prevent the young man from being negligent.

"If you do something as stupid as this guy did, you have to be responsible for what comes from it," said Leslie Rosen, Zokhrabov's lawyer.

The park can be named as a co-defendant. Generally, lawsuits that are chasing money will rope in the deepest pockets they can anyway, but whether or not the deceased is named as a defendant is independant of whether the park is also brought into the suit.

An Egyptian man who went online to watch a porno film for the first time got the shock of his life when he found that the woman in the film was his own wife.

The man, identified as Ramadan, instantly collapsed in disbelief on the floor at an internet shop before coming round and rushing home to face his unfaithful wife.

The woman first denied his allegations and started to swear at him, prompting her husband to face her with the film.

Unable to deny it any more, she confessed to have betrayed him with her pre-marriage boy friend, telling him she had never loved him although they had four children during their 16-year marriage.

“I found 11 films showing my wife in indecent scenes with her lover….it was the first time I watched a porno film and I did this just out of curiosity,” Ramadan told Egyptian newspapers at his house in the northeastern province of Dakhalia.

“She first denied it and accused me of being insane before I faced her with the films…she then confessed to be still in love with her boyfriend, saying he is as young as her and that I am an old man.”

Ramadan said he had been happy during his marriage life until he logged on to that website. Newspapers did not say whether he decided to divorce her.
