On Tuesday, we told you about Justin Clark, the 24-year-old Iowan who was arrested for DUI with a unbe-freakin-lievable blood-alcohol level of 0.627.

Clark was treated for drunkeness at a local hospital, but somehow survived a level of intoxication that would be fatal for most. Consider this: An expert says Clark would've had to down 35 drinks in four hours to reach to reach 0.627. And after drinking half of a liquor store, Clark tried to drive!

    From the Cedar Rapids Gazette:

Michael Takacs, clinical assistant professor of emergency medicine and an emergency room doctor at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, said 0.627 percent is higher than any level he's seen during his eight years in the field.

At that level, Takacs said, a person would have to go to the intensive care unit and would be at risk of losing heart and respiratory functions.

"That's astronomically high, and the highest I've ever heard of," Takacs said. "For even the most seasoned alcoholic, 0.627 would be a lethal dose possibly."

Charges dropped against fugitive doctor, because evidence is using too much space on federal servers

By Eric Pfeiffer, Yahoo! News | The Sideshow – 22 hrs ago

Federal charges against Armando Angulo were dropped because evidence was taking up too much space (AP/Florida Attorney …The federal government has more than 400,000 pages of evidence against fugitive Miami doctor Armando Angulo, taking up some two terabytes of digital space. On the surface, it sounds like a pretty solid case. But at the urging of prosecutors, charges were dropped against the doctor because the evidence is simply taking up too much space on government servers.

"Continued storage of these materials is difficult and expensive," wrote Stephanie Rose, the U.S. attorney for northern Iowa, describing the ongoing evidence storage as "an economic and political hardship" for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

As the Associated Press notes, the collection of evidence against Angulo, who is charged with illegally selling prescription medicines online, is enough to print the classic novel "War and Peace" 625,000 times.

The evidence against Angulo alone reportedly was taking up 5 percent of the DEA's entire worldwide global storage network. Part of that limited storage capacity stems from the fact that the DEA has not recently upgraded its storage capacity. An external hard drive with a terabyte of storage can be easily purchased online at outlets like Best Buy for around $100.

Angulo fled to his native Panama shortly after the investigation began in 2004. In 2007 he was indicted on federal charges of selling prescription drugs online to patients who were never examined or interviewed by licensed physicians.

The investigation is the largest of its kind in U.S. history and has already led to the conviction of 26 individuals, including 19 doctors.

U.S. District Judge Linda Reade dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled in court. However, Angulo cannot return to the U.S. where he is still wanted on other charges. Authorities say his alleged crimes were not victimless, costing Medicaid $6.5 million and leading several individuals into drug addiction and other health risks.

Rising star in Hungarian anti-Semitic party discovers he’s Jewish

BUDAPEST, Hungary — As a rising star in Hungary’s far-right Jobbik Party, Csanad Szegedi was notorious for his incendiary comments on Jews: He accused them of “buying up” the country, railed about the “Jewishness” of the political elite and claimed Jews were desecrating national symbols.

Then came a revelation that knocked him off his perch as ultra-nationalist standard-bearer: Szegedi himself is a Jew.

Following weeks of Internet rumors, Szegedi acknowledged in June that his grandparents on his mother’s side were Jews – making him one too under Jewish law, even though he doesn’t practice the faith. His grandmother was an Auschwitz survivor and his grandfather a veteran of forced labour camps.

Since then, the 30-year-old has become a pariah in Jobbik and his political career is on the brink of collapse. He declined to be interviewed for this story.

It's straight out of an episode of Breaking Bad – right down to the name.

A man accused of violating his probation in a methamphetamine manufacturing case in Tuscaloosa, Ala., is drawing attention for more than his crime.

Since 2010, Walter Eddy White has been on probation after being arrested in 2008 on charges of trafficking methamphetamine, unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of precursor materials, Al.com reports.

But White shares a name with a more popular methamphetamine cook – Breaking Bad's main character, Walter White.

Bryan Cranston, who plays White on the award-winning AMC series, is nominated for an Emmy Award for best drama actor for his role.

Created by Vince Gilligan, Breaking Bad stars Cranston and Aaron Paul as an odd couple who cook, sell and distribute massive quantities of methamphetamine in New Mexico while narrowly avoiding being discovered by authorities.

I don't normally post stuff like this, but its just too good to not share.....

    Spoiler: show
A pair of male suspects reportedly walked straight out of the North Reading Police Department on Monday morning. It took a call from the mother of one of the suspects for police to realize that they were missing. Giangrande’s mother called police to say her son was in a family member’s attic. Chief Murphy admits it wasn’t just a mechanical error, but human error played a role in the incident as well. He says the officer responsible has since been retrained on how to properly shut the cell door, even though the officer is a veteran of the department and has been shutting the door the same way for years.

A pornography trade group has called for a nationwide filming moratorium while performers are tested for syphilis and Los Angeles County public health officials investigate a possible outbreak of the sexually transmitted disease.

One performer has tested positive, and the performer's sexual partners are being notified, according to Joanne Cachapero, a spokeswoman for the Free Speech Coalition.

The voluntary, temporary moratorium on production is expected to shutter a multi-billion dollar industry "until the risk to performers in the industry has been properly assessed and all performers have been tested," the trade association said in a statement.

On Friday, the Los Angeles County Public Health Department announced an investigation into at least five possible cases of syphilis that were reported last week.

Cachapero said the group is calling on all performers, more than 1,000, to be tested. Because the illness can be difficult to detect, the trade group's medical experts have ordered preventative shots of antibiotics for performers. After performers get the shots, they can go back to work within 10 days, Cachapero said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, syphilis is transmitted through direct contact with syphilis sores, which mainly occur on the external genitals, vagina, anus or inside the rectum. The disease can be transmitted through a variety of sex acts.

A single shot of penicillin can cure a person who has had syphilis for less than a year, according to the CDC. Additional doses are necessary for people who have had the STD for a longer period.

County public health spokeswoman Sarah Kissell acknowledged the investigation Monday but declined an interview seeking details of its scope or an update of its findings.

The porn industry has held self-imposed moratoriums following news of diseased performers before.

In 2011, major porn producers stopped filming for nearly a week after an adult film performer tested positive for HIV, which causes AIDS. The Free Speech Coalition said the case was later determined to have been a false report.

In late 2010, porn actor Derrick Burts was diagnosed as HIV-positive, and his case was confirmed, briefly halting production.

In 2004, at least five performers tested positive for HIV, prompting another brief self-imposed moratorium.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, an advocacy group that has called for the use of condoms in all pornography, said Monday that the industry is incapable of policing itself and protecting its performers.

The group is backing a November ballot measure that will allow Los Angeles county voters to mandate the use of condoms during pornography shoots.

The Free Speech Coalition opposes the measure, saying the industry is a tight-knit community that has been proactive in testing and protecting the welfare of performers.

Kaitlin Nootbaar, the Oklahoma high school valedictorian who was denied her diploma after she used the word "hell" in her graduation speech, said on Wednesday she has no plans to apologize.

"I'm still not gonna issue an apology, because I'm not sorry for that," Nootbaar said in an interview on the "Today" show. "I'm sorry for other things. I'm sorry for the problems that this has caused the school, especially the teachers. I've heard they've been getting calls from numerous people, and that would be nice if that would stop."

Nootbaar graduated from Prague High School with a 4.0 grade point average, her father, David Nootbaar, told KFOR-TV. But school administrators told him that Kaitlin would have to submit a written apology in order to get her diploma.

"We went to the office and asked for the diploma and the principal said, 'Your diploma is right here but you ain't getting it. Close the door, we have a problem,'" David Nootbaar said.

In her speech—inspired by a similar address in "Eclipse: The Twilight Saga"—Kaitlin recounted how annoying it is to be constantly asked what she wants to do as graduation approached. "How the hell do I know?" she said, according to her father. "I've changed my mind so many times."

"Ms. Nootbaar prepared an appropriate speech, which was approved by the high school principal," Rick Martin, Prague schools superintendent, said in a statement. "Unfortunately, she did not present the speech as written and used language that was inappropriate for a graduation exercise."

In the version she submitted to the school for approval, "hell" was "heck." But in the version she delivered at graduation, "hell" it was.

Nootbaar said she talked it over with her classmates before going on stage to deliver the speech, and they encouraged her "just say it."

Prague High School's mascot, it's worth noting, is the "Red Devil."

"I'm a veteran," David Nootbaar said on the "Today" show. "I feel that she has freedom of speech, and First Amendment rights. Why should she bow down to this man, when so many young men are putting their lives on the line to protect those rights?"

"The fact is, all the diploma really signifies is my achievements, and I know what I've achieved," Nootbaar, who will attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University this fall, added. "Maybe I'll never get my diploma—that's fine. I have other things to work towards in life, like my college diploma, becoming a marine biologist, becoming successful in my career. Those things are more important to me."

An elderly parishioner has stunned Spanish cultural officials with an alarming and unauthorised attempt to restore a prized Jesus Christ fresco.

Ecce Homo (Behold the Man) by Elias Garcia Martinez has held pride of place in the Sanctuary of Mercy Church near Zaragoza for more than 100 years.

The woman took her brush to it after years of deterioration due to moisture.

Cultural officials said she had the best intentions and hoped it could be properly restored.

The woman, in her 80s, was reportedly upset at the way the fresco had deteriorated and took it on herself to "restore" the image.

BBC Europe correspondent Christian Fraser says the delicate brush strokes of Elias Garcia Martinez have been buried under a haphazard splattering of paint.

The once-dignified portrait now resembles a crayon sketch of a very hairy monkey in an ill-fitting tunic, he says.

The woman appears to have realised she was out of her depth and contacted Juan Maria Ojeda, the city councillor in charge of cultural affairs.

Art historians are expected to meet at the church soon to discuss how to proceed.

Mr Ojeda said: "I think she had good intentions. Next week she will meet with a repairer and explain what kind of materials she used.

"If we can't fix it, we will probably cover the wall with a photo of the painting."

The fresco is not thought to be very valuable, but has a high sentimental value for local people.

Our correspondent says that to make matters worse, the local centre that works to preserve artworks had just received a donation from the painter's granddaughter which they had planned to use to restore the original fresco.
