An explosion has levelled two Indianapolis homes, killing at least two people and forcing about 200 people from their neighbourhood, authorities said.

"This looks like a war zone; it really does ... Police officers and fire department officials remain at the scene searching for other possible victims"

    - Lt Bonnie Hensley,
    Indianapolis Fire Department

The powerful nighttime blast on Sunday shattered windows, crumpled walls and inflicted other damage on at least 14 other homes.

Four people were taken to hospital with minor injuries after the explosion and fire, the Indianapolis Fire Department said in a statement.

Fire Lt Bonnie Hensley said firefighters put out the flames and then went through the rubble and damaged homes one at a time in case people had been left behind. Two bodies have been recovered.

Some witnesses said in televised reports that they heard people screaming "Help me! Help me!" after the explosion and fire, and that two parents and two children were safely pulled from one house that caught fire.

"This looks like a war zone; it really does," Hensley told the AP news agency. "Police officers and fire department officials remain at the scene searching for other possible victims."

She said they used search lights until dawn as they peered into the damaged and ruined homes.

The fire department has not released the names of those killed.

Hensley said one body was found in one of the levelled homes after the fire was put out, and that at least 14 other homes were damaged in the area by the Saturday night blast's shock wave or flying debris.

    'Nothing left'

The explosion was heard for miles around, but authorities said they had no immediate information on the cause. The fire department and other agencies were investigating.

People who were asleep when the blast happened were evacuated in their pajamas, scooping up their pets as they left. They left what some described as a chaotic scene of tall flames rising on the Indianapolis skyline.

Survivors reported shattered windows, caved-in walls and garage doors knocked off their hinges. Of the two homes that were levelled by the blast, Hensley said: "There's nothing left".

Bryan and Trina McClellan were at home with their 23-year-old son Eric when the shock wave from the blast a block away shook their home.

All power, gas and other utilities in the area were
shut off as a precautionary measure [EPA]
It knocked out the windows along one side of their house, and their first instinct was to check on their grandchildren, two toddlers who were in the basement.

One was holding his ears and saying "Loud noise, loud noise".

Eric McClellan said he ran afterward to the scene of the explosion and saw homes flat or nearly so.

"Somebody was trapped inside one of the houses, and the firefighters were trying to get to him. I don't know if he survived," he said, adding that firefighters ordered him to leave the area.

All power, gas and other utilities in the area were shut off as a precaution as emergency officials swarmed the site.

About 200 people were taken to an elementary school, where some milled about in pajamas and coats they had grabbed as they fled. Some had their dogs on leashes, and one woman had evacuated her home with a cat.

Most eventually left to stay with relatives, friends or at hotels, but 15 to 25 remained through the night, sleeping on cots.

Pam Brainerd, a 59-year-old hospice nurse, said she was asleep when the explosion blew out the upstairs windows in her house.

"I was sleeping on the sofa and all of a sudden, my upstairs windows were blowing out and my front door was falling in," Brainerd said. "My front door came off the frame. It was the largest bang I've ever heard."
Only reason I got it off Aljazeera was for the pics. Saw that pic on the news and googled sites until I found the exact one.

Damn. Probably stockpiled gasoline or something.

My family used to rent our church's parsonage, and a couple years after we moved out, the kids of the family who moved in after us were playing with fire in the garage. They lost control of it, and it caught some propane tanks, and the whole house went up. I don't remember if it was the same family, but someone bought the property and foundation (which, being concrete, was salvageable) and bought a pre-built home that fit it. You can't tell anything changed unless you knew what the old house looked like.. and even then, it's still similar.

Still, that's only a fire, and the neighbor's home was fine and no one was hurt; not even the children of dubious intelligence. That looks like someone dropped a bomb on it.

On the yahoo story they said they had ruled out a meth lab, but take it with a grain of salt. Was probably some gas line explosion, but hard to say for sure.

Not sure if a meth lab could make such a huge explosion though? It's around 11 miles away from where I live and it sounded close enough to make me run around like an idiot looking for thunder or massive fires around my own house.

Racist anti-Obama Facebook post gets woman fired

A California woman seems genuinely surprised that calling the president by the n-word and wishing for his assassination might be, well, a big deal.

"I didn't think it would be that big of a deal."

These are words so many of us have used, just before someone slapped us across the chops.

So it has proved for Denise Helms, a 22-year-old woman from Turlock, Calif., who used Facebook to express her own miffedness with the re-election of the president.

As Fox 40 in Sacramento records it, she wrote: "Another 4 years of this n*****. Maybe he will get assassinated this term."

Oddly, this post seems to have incurred something of a reaction itself. Not everyone was at one with her sentiment.

Indeed, her employer, Cold Stone Creamery, looked at it chillingly and fired her.

"This employee is no longer w/the company & her disgraceful and completely unacceptable comments do not reflect our views," Cold Stone Creamery tweeted.

Helms, when interviewed by Fox 40, seemed largely less than repentant about her Facebook post. She said: "He's done absolutely nothing for this country."

She happily explained the nuances behind her thoughts: "The assassination part is kind of harsh. I'm not saying, like, I would go do that or anything like that, by any means, but if it was to happen, I don't think I'd care one bit."

This was after she'd again taken to Facebook (and before she'd deactivated her account) to declare:

So apparently my post last night about Obama got onto Twitter and Fox 40 came and interviewed me cause apparently a lot of people in Sacramento think I'm crazy and racist. WOW is all I got to say!! I'm not racist and I'm not crazy. just simply stating my opinion.!!!
    \
You see, it's all fine. She's not crazy or racist. She was simply stating her opinion.

The Secret Service appears to have become interested in her opinion. To which Helms told Fox 40: "OK. But what did I do wrong?"

Helms insists that she had set her Facebook page to "private," so it's curious how her views might have received such public airing.

Especially as she's now receiving threats herself and has been in contact with the local police on a "just in case" basis.

So here endeth Chapter 4012 of The Perils of Social Media, in which yet another person discovers that what seems to be private may not be -- with difficult, um, kind of harsh consequences.
    Amazing interview...

A man was arrested for the fourth time for having sex with a teddy bear in public.

Charles Marshall, 28, received a citation on Wednesday for masturbating with the stuffed animal in an alley near the Elm Street Health Clinic in Cincinnati, Ohio, it has been revealed.

This is the fourth occasion since 2010 that the man has been arrested for pleasuring himself with a teddy bear.

Marshall received a citation for disorderly conduct in the most recent incident.

Employees at the health clinic noticed Marshall in an alley engaging in a sex act with himself.

They reported the situation to police.

Marshall was found using the stuffed animal to masturbate.

Marshall has a history of arrests for having sex with teddy bears in public.

For three similar incidents in the past, Marshall served short stints in jail and paid small fines for misdemeanor convictions, according to The Smoking Gun.
    http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/...30_468x591.jpg
He was first arrested in February 2010 after people at a public library contacted authorities about Marshall.

Witnesses there said the man had been masturbating with a stuffed animal in a men's bathroom.

A judge told Marshall to stay away from all public libraries in Hamilton County, Ohio, The Smoking Gun reported.

Later in 2010, police arrested Marshall for having sex with a teddy bear a second time.

An officer wrote on the police report that Marshall's public indecency with a teddy bear 'has been an ongoing problem.'

The third occasion Marshall was found pleasuring himself with a toy bear was in August 2011.

He was arrested for that incident after witnesses called authorities.

Police said he was masturbating with a stuffed animal in a place where minors were likely present.

It is unclear whether Marshall used the same teddy bear on each occasion.

Why did they bother reporting this before they got such important information?

Police: Alleged Car Thief Made Food Deliveries

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. November 12, 2012 (AP)

Police in Connecticut say a man stole a car used to deliver Chinese food and continued dropping off orders so he could keep the customers' money.

Keith Hinds was charged on Friday with larceny, possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and other drug charges.

It was not known Monday morning if the 45-year-old Hinds is represented by a lawyer.

West Hartford police received a call from a Chinese food delivery driver reporting that his car had been stolen after he left it idling to run into a school.

The driver also called his boss so customers could be notified that their orders were stolen with the car. Police say one of the orders was delivered after the car was taken.

Hinds was held on $5,000 bond.

Egyptian security authorities are taking seriously threats by a radical Salafist jihadist leader to demolish the Great Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian press reported on Monday.

Murgan Salem al-Gohary told Egypt’s privately-owned Dream TV2 channel over the weekend that the Sphinx and pyramids are “idolatrous” and must be destroyed, Egyptian daily al-Masry al-Youm reported.

GILBERT, ARIZ. Police say a woman who was upset over the outcome of the presidential election ran over her husband because he didn't participate in his civic duty.

Police allege Holly Solomon ran over her husband after they had an argument over the 2012 presidential election. / MARICOPA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
Holly Solomon, 28, chased her 36-year-old husband Daniel Solomon with the family Jeep SUV on Saturday night over a political argument stemming from the fact he didn't vote, CBS station KPHO in Phoenix, Ariz. reported. She pinned him between the underside of the SUV and the curb when he tried to run for help.

The husband told investigators that Solomon believed her family was going to face hardship from President Barack Obama's re-election.

Witnesses told police that Solomon followed her husband in her car through a parking lot while screaming at him. He hid behind a light pole to protect himself while Solomon circled several times. She struck him as he tried to make a break for the main road.

There were no signs Solomon was impaired either by alcohol or drugs, KPHO said.

She was booked on an aggravated assault and domestic violence.

Her husband remains in critical condition at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center, news outlet Arizona Republic reported.

It's not clear whether Solomon has a lawyer. She had no listed phone number.
