Canadian police have arrested four men and are searching for five others suspects in connection with the theft of six million pounds of maple syrup worth USD 18 million from a warehouse in Quebec City.
The thieves managed to steal the sticky substance from a warehouse in Saint-Louis-de-Blandford between August 2011 and July of this year, ABC News reported.
"It's one of the most important robberies in Quebec because of the quantity stolen and the value of the syrup," said Sgt. Gregory Gomez Del Prado of Quebec police.
Quebec police arrested Stephan Darveau yesterday, after arresting three others on Tuesday, linking all four to the ongoing investigation.
Richard Vallieres, 34, Avik Caron, 39, and another unnamed suspect met in court yesterday on charges of conspiracy to commit theft, possession of property obtained by crime and fraud.
Quebec police have arrest warrants for four other suspects, the report said.
"We know there are probably more people involved. It's a complex case," said Simon Trepanier, director of the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers.
"At the beginning we knew it had been done by a very organised group because it’s impossible to steal that amount of maple syrup without being organised."
During the police investigation, police were able to recover two elevator carts, four kettles of syrup, forklifts and six electronic scales — all items used during the theft.
Trepanier said his organisation stored the overproduction supply of their 2011 harvest in roughly 10 million barrels located within a rented facility. The organisation did not know of the heist until the warehouse workers called to report empty syrup barrels.
Maple syrup is often eaten with pancakes, waffles, French toast, or oatmeal and porridge. It is also used as an ingredient in baking, and as a sweetener or flavouring agent.
The Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers believe several million cans of stolen maple syrup may be sitting on US grocery shelves.
Quebec is by far the largest global producer of maple syrup, responsible for about three-quarters of the world's output. Canadian exports of maple syrup exceed USD 141 million per year.
Without all of that missing syrup, how will they make the charges stick?
well played
How do you even steal 6 million pounds of syrup?
With multiple mooses I would assume.
Wow... stay classy Iowa

Iowa court OKs firing of female dentist worker for being too 'irresistibly attractive'

Horndog bosses in Iowa have a new tool to save their marriages — they can fire employees who are too hot for the workplace.
The state’s all-male supreme court ruled 7-0 Friday that an Iowa City dentist legally canned his female assistant because she was “irresistibly attractive” and a threat to his marriage.
The bombshell ruling came after Melissa Nelson, 32, sued her boss of 10 years, Dr. James Knight, for gender discrimination.
The married mother claims she was fired in January 2010 after Knight’s wife became jealous of the pair’s relationship, which included harmless text messages between them outside of work.
“These judges sent a message to Iowa women that they don’t think men can be held responsible for their sexual desires and that Iowa women are the ones who have to monitor and control their bosses’ sexual desires,” Nelson’s attorney, Paige Fiedler, told the Associated Press. “If (the bosses) get out of hand, then the women can be legally fired for it.”
Knight, 53, admitted that Nelson was a great worker, but complained in the final months of her employment that her tight clothing was too much of a distraction.
He even once told her that if his pants were bulging, she would know her outfits were too revealing, according to the lawsuit.
He also quipped about her irregular sex life, describing it as “like having a Lamborghini in the garage and never driving it,” the court papers show.
Knight, who is also married with children, exchanged text messages with Nelson regularly. They primarily consisted of banter about personal matters. But Knight’s wife, who works in the same office, found out about the out-of-office conversations and demanded Nelson be fired.
The dentist, after consulting with a local pastor, soon terminated her and gave her one month’s severance. Knight later admitted to Nelson’s husband that he feared he would eventually try to start an affair with her.
Nelson did not claim sexual harassment, but said that she wouldn’t have been fired if she were a man.
After the ruling from the all-male high court, one of only a few testosterone-only panels in the nation, Justice Edward Mansfield wrote that allowing Nelson’s suit would have stretched the definition of gender discrimination.
Knight’s lawyer, Stuart Cochrane, said the decision was a home-run for family values.
“While there was really no fault on the part of Mrs. Nelson, it was just as clear the decision to terminate her was not related to the fact that she was a woman,” he told the Associated Press. “The motives behind Dr. Knight terminating Mrs. Nelson were quite clear: he did so to preserve his marriage.”

YouTube Kills Billions of Video Views Faked By Music Industry
The video service deleted more than 2 billion fake video views in the channels of Universal, Sony, and RCA, according to Daily Dot. The decision apparently was made when YouTube found out that the companies were using view building services hired from sites such as Fiverr to create video views that never existed.
Sony/BMG's was hit the hardest with views dropping from a total of more than 850 million to just 2.3 million. RCA declined by 159 million views to a total of 120 million. Universal lost more than 1 billion views and now stands below 6 billion.
Lol
That seems excessive.Sony/BMG's was hit the hardest with views dropping from a total of more than 850 million to just 2.3 million
uh, so what? who the hell cares how many views they have other than south park's internet money episode
Youtube ads is alot of money for them, not too surprised tbh.
Also isn't this viewing business pretty much the same thing that banned pedophile dude used to brag about doing to make money?
wtf is going on with this shit lately...HOOVER, Alabama - Police say a man fired shots at Hoover firefighters early today when they responded to a call for medical assistance at his Lake Cyrus home.
Firefighters were dispatched about 4:30 a.m. to the man's home in the 1600 block of Lake Cyrus Club Drive. As firefighters entered through the front door, police say Phillip Earl Jones Jr. opened fire. The firefighters retreated to a position of safety, said Hoover police Capt. Jim Coker. No one was injured by the gunfire.
Police on the scene took Jones, 45, into custody. He was taken to Shelby Baptist Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He was then taken to the Hoover City Jail on an attempted murder charge, Coker said. He was later transferred to the Jefferson County Jail where he is being held on $30,000 bond.
Coker said authorities are still trying to determine the man's motive for shooting at firefighters.
The shooting comes just three days after two firefighters were fatally shot and two others wounded when responding to a fire in Webster, N.Y. Authorities there say an ex-con gunned down those firefighters after luring them to his neighborhood by setting a car and a house ablaze early Monday. They say he then took shots at police and committed suicide while several homes burned.
Its only reported as much now because of the recent school shooting. Curious on the national gun crime average over the past two weeks, if its the same or way higher.
so is shooting at firefighters a thing?
