Food TV star offers cake to gay couple denied by local bakery

A man whose cake-making expertise has been featured on various Food Network programs says he wants to bake a cake for a lesbian couple denied business at a local bakery.
The Huffington Post reports pastry chef Duff Goldman, star of the show Ace of Cakes, sent out an open offer to the couple.
He told the Huffington Post he'll bake and transport the wedding cake free of charge.
Goldman then told HuffPost Livehis business, Charm City Cakes, has been making same-sex wedding cakes for some time.
"For a cake decorator to really feel like he really needed to take a stand… it just makes absolutely no sense," Goldman told the Huffington Post. "It's petty, it's small… this man has wrapped up his hatred in the cloak of religion."
Aaron Klein, of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, admits he refused the couple's business to make them a same-sex wedding cake on religious grounds.
"I stopped what I was doing, I looked at them and said, 'I'm sorry I may have wasted your time, we don't do same-sex marriages,'" he said.
Klein, however, denies calling them "abominations," as alleged in a formal complaint. The state is now investigating this case.
Klein and his wife, who opened the bakery five years ago, do not hide their religious beliefs.
The Sweet Cakes website says they "strongly believe that when a man and women come together to be joined as one, it is [truly] one of the most special days of their lives."

While Oregon law prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, Klein believes the U.S. constitution protects him.
"I'm free to exercise my religion however I see fit. I should not be compelled to violate my conscience," he said. "If I'm told I have to make a wedding cake for a same-sex marriage, I feel that I'm violating my beliefs. I don't think I should have to do that."
After Klein responds in writing to the Department of Justice, they will determine whether or not to take action against Sweet Cakes. Klein said he will ready for any outcome from that process.
Klein also said they have received support from across the country after the story hit the internet, while others flooded the bakery's Facebook page with so many negative comments it had to be taken down.
There is no word yet if the couple will take up Goldman's offer of a free cake.

Normally i would not condone child abuse, but after working at walmart for 6 months back when i was a teenager, I honestly believe some children and their parents need a good beating. Seriously, some of the stuff i witnessed and had to put up with started my hatred for humanity.

Authorities say a nine-year-old girl has given birth in western Mexico and they are looking for the purported father, a 17-year-old.

Jalisco state police spokesman Lino Gonzalez says the baby girl was born last week at a hospital in the city of Guadalajara. He says the girl and her baby are doing well.

Gonzalez said Wednesday that the girl's family alerted authorities after she gave birth and the alleged father has not been seen since in the neighbourhood they both live in.

He says that if the teenager's paternity is proven he could face child sex abuse charges.

Gonzalez says the girl told authorities the teenager was her boyfriend.

Obviously i'm stretching this to the point of absurdity in a way, because a 17 year old, while not exactly an adult, is close enough in our minds to being one for us to register it as child sex abuse, but i do wonder what the rules on this kind of stuff are.

Underage people have taken nude photos of themselves and have been charged with child pornography, so I wouldn't say that would be a big stretch of the imagination. In fact, I would be surprised if it hasn't already happened.

Depends on where you are. Sometimes both will have committed a crime, but not always. Where i live, as long as neither is more than 4 years older than the other, i do believe toddlers could legally have sex.

A 9 and 17 year old is definitely illegal for at least one of them pretty much regardless of where it happens.

Iran introduces fake fighter jet

First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.

First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January. After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.

Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.

“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.

And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

Think Nemo’s Bad? In Brazil It’s Raining Spiders

What's that? You're worried about a little snow falling on your head? How adorable.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, it's raining spiders.

Footage posted online yesterday shows thousands of spiders "falling from the sky" in the southern Brazilian town of Santo Antônio da Platina.

"Still do not know what causes such behavior," writes the video's uploader. "We are researching and will post the answer to the question here."

I know exactly what causes such behavior. A little something called the end of the world.

UPDATE: Brazilian news portal G1 reports that this footage was captured by 20-year-old web designer Erick Reis as he was leaving a friend's engagement party this past Sunday.

G1 spoke with a local biologist who identified the spider as Anelosimus eximius — a "social spider" species known for its massive colonies and "sheet webs." He characterized the phenomenon as "normal," which it most certainly is not.
