Woman sues $1.3 million for C+ grade
(CNN/KYW) - A bad grade has led to a million-dollar lawsuit in Pennsylvania. A former graduate student accuses her alma mater of forcing her to pursue a less lucrative field.
27-year-old Megan Thode is suing Lehigh University for 1.3 million dollars. The reasons: breach of contract and sex discrimination.
Thode got a C+ in one of her graduate classes back in 2009, which she says impacted her degree and earning potential. She also claims the university discriminated against her because she supports gay rights.
Thode's attorney says she never received less than an A- in grad-school before getting a C+.
A spokesperson from Lehigh University says, "Evaluating students' academic work is a core component of the educational process. The university and our faculty have a responsibility to evaluate students fairly and accurately as to their attainment of competency in their field and to grant a Lehigh degree only when Lehigh's standards of competency are met."
Instead of getting a master's in counseling human services, Thode earned a masters in counseling in human development. She currently works as a drug and alcohol counselor.
.A 47-year-old man has been accused of posing as a dentist, treating a woman for a toothache and kissing her buttocks after administering an injection, according to a Hollywood, Florida police report.
John Collazos was arrested Monday and charged with practicing dental hygiene without a license in a Hollywood case stemming from November 2010. He was also arrested in September for practicing dentistry without a license in Davie.
Police said that Collazos treated the unidentified woman in an apartment in the 2000 block of Fillmore Street on Nov. 19, 2010, and charged about $65 for the services.
The Hollywood apartment had a waiting room area and was fully equipped with dental equipment, the woman told police.
Collazos allegedly examined her mouth and applied a paste to relieve the pain. He then administered an injection in the woman's buttocks to alleviate the toothache and then kissed her buttocks, the report said.
He also inappropriately touched her genitals, police said.
Collazos was released Tuesday on $1,000 bail.
my dad has all sorts of stories about entitled fully grown children whining about their grades.
A common theme is "Why did I get a bad grade on this?" "Because it was awful" "But I tried really hard!" "...and it was awful." "But I put in a lot of effort!" etc , until they eventually give up. Very few realize that trying isnt doing.
Thanks for your valuable anecdote!
Any time.
This was actually wonderful for me to watch, as I'm rather happy to nerd out about new technology matters, and I'm also a great fan of Imogen Heap.
Spoiler: show
I'll admit that she isn't the best at technology presentations, as the first seven minutes of that video isn't interesting, but when she starts demonstrating things, well, that's when the fun begins.
As I know you're enough of an intellectual to understand this, I suppose that my response isn't aimed at you, but anyone else who may say something similar in all seriousness: every advancement is worth celebrating, especially in the under-appreciated arts, and everywhere else, too.Originally Posted by Skjie

[UPDATE: Fitness SF disputes Frank Jonen's claims, telling Adweek that Jonen was paid and is now trying to blackmail the company and extort more money from them. A statement from Fitness SF is coming shortly. Original item is posted below.]
You may dream about this, but no one ever does it. Until now. Frank Jonen, who runs his own small Web design company, claims he wasn't paid properly by Fitness SF, one of his clients. So, he went and replaced the Fitness SF website with an angry letter about how evil the bastards at Fitness SF are. Amazing.
To many, Jonen will be a hero. To others, he will now be someone they would never, ever hire for work. Via The Denver Egotist.
Screen grabs and full text of the letter below, for when Jonen's masterpiece is taken down.
http://socialtimes.com/fitness-sf-de...voices_b119099Dear Fitness SF customer,
Fitness SF preferred to ignore our invoices instead of paying them. As a result this website is no longer operational.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause for you as a customer of Fitness SF, however it is a necessary measure in getting what is rightfully ours.
Half a year's worth of work, including gallery featured logo renderings with over 1,300 views a piece.
While some of that got replaced in an attempt to cover up our work, other parts, like the base design (CSS) of the site were still used, illegally as they've not been paid for.
Normally there is no question of paying one's dues. It is simply a matter of morals. Having morals and acting upon them or not having any and just betraying the people that got you started. Sadly we’ve come to know what Fitness SF stands for, or you wouldn’t be reading this.
Your word on their Facebook accounts will go a long way. We're a small company in the heart of Europe, which is probably why Fitness SF believes they can sit this out till we perish. Can you support a company that acts like this?
Do you hear the people sing, who will not be paid again…
I am also writing this on the behalf of the tens of thousands of freelancers and small businesses out there facing larger corporations who can afford to starve them out. In the movie / visual effects business this is already prevalent. Large studios awarding work to smaller studios or freelancers in the hope they won't stand up to them when it comes to loads and loads of unpaid work.
What Fitness SF is trying here is exactly the same ploy. Give a barren advance, rake up a huge bill and ignore every invoice. Rush fees, heavy overtime and weekend work are expected to be free.
You don't get to sleep for days on end, but you do get to wait on your money forever.
It's people like this who cause company after company to go bankrupt.
An injury to one is an injury to all of us. We need to make a stand against crooks like this. If you'd like to join us in this fight, cancel your gym memberships, post on their Facebook pages, Tweet about it or even pass this on to a journalist. Fitness SF used the press once before to paint themselves as a savior.
It's time the truth got out on what they really are. Doesn’t it makes you wonder what really drives their publicized "commitment" to the LGBT community? Can somebody who thrives on betrayal in one side of their business be honest in another side?
I hope you are with us. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Frank Jonen

Fitness SF denies owing money to the web designer who replaced the company’s homepage with an angry letter last night.
German designer Frank Jonen said he hacked the website after Fitness SF failed to pay him for “half a year’s worth of work” for the chain of fitness centers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
“Frank Jonen was hired and paid to produce a website that he never made,” said Fitness SF Don Dickerson via email. ”He is not an agency. He lives in his parents’ attic in Germany. He is attempting to blackmail us and we will not cave to extortion demands.”
The company has contacted the FBI for help.

It's official: Mississippi bans slavery
A hundred and forty-eight years after it became law, and 18 years after passing it, Mississippi officially ratified the 13th Amendment banning slavery.
The cause of the delay? A clerical error, according to The Jackson Clarion-Ledger.
In 1995, Mississippi was the only state not to have passed the 13th Amendment. While it passed unanimously, the resolution was never sent to the Office of the Federal Register at the National Archives, a required step.
Two University of Mississippi employees — Ranjan Bantra, a doctor who became a U.S. citizen in 2008 and Ken Sullivan, who works for the university’s body donation program — started researching after seeing “Lincoln,” about the 16th president’s efforts to pass the amendment through Congress. Sullivan eventually contacted the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office, which was able to fix the error. On Feb. 7, the Archives wrote back that Mississippi’s ratification was official.
“Now it’s officially filed and recorded,” Sullivan told the paper over the weekend. “There’s no asterisk by Mississippi anymore.”
.Better late than never.
The state of Mississippi has finally ratified the 13th Amendment which abolishes slavery – 148 years later.
The Clarion Ledger reports that Dr. Ranjan Batra, a professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, looked into states ratifying an amendment after watching Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” last November and learned that Mississippi never approved the amendment after initially rejecting it in 1865.
Batra then told colleague Ken Sullivan who called the National Archives’ Office of the Federal Register to inform them that Mississippi still did not ratify the 13th Amendment.
“I felt very connected to the history,” Sullivan told the Clarion Ledger.
Sullivan was able to retrieve a copy of a 1995 Senate resolution, which passed both the Mississippi House and Senate, that ratified the amendment to abolish slavery, but it was never sent to the Office of the Federal Register.
“What an amendment to have an error in filing,” Dick Molpus, Mississippi’s former secretary of state, told the Clarion Ledger. “Thanks to Ken Sullivan for being a good citizen in bringing this oversight to light, so it can be corrected.”
Current Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann sent the Office of the Federal Register a copy of the 1995 Senate bill and on Feb. 7, Mississippi finally ratified the 13th Amendment.
“Now it’s officially filed and recorded,” Sullivan said. “There’s no asterisk by Mississippi any more.”
That was just posted Cail!

Elderly couple pulled over for Ohio State sticker on car
Bonnie Jonas-Boggioni and Giorgio Boggioni – 65-year-old and 66-year-old husband and wife from Plano, TX – are Ohio State Buckeye fans. They were driving through Tennessee, returning from the funeral of Jonas-Boggioni’s mother.
As they were driving along I-40, about 40 miles east of Memphis, police spotted a sticker on the Boggioni’s car. It was of a leaf, the same leaf that Ohio State Buckeye football players wear on their helmets. It’s a leaf from a buckeye tree.Just wow.the officers excused the unwarranted stop by explaining that an officer in another jurisdiction had called in a report of the Boggionis’ sticker – believing the older couple to be at the forefront of some sort of massive marijuana ring
speaking of Valisk, at least mine was 20mins apart from the original
