You can only apply hipster slogan to matters of taste. (clothing styles, music, art)

A pompous attitude toward knowing something before it is picked up by the mainstream is a quintessential characteristic of being a hipster.

Hipster isn't just style, it's a way of life, etc.

Well, since we are heading towards the absurd. Let's talk about how an article from democracy now is mainstream.

Anyway, no one is shocked by the revelation that our news media is shit. They're more confused by the public acknowledgement of that fact by a government official who isn't just attention whoring to sell a book.

    Problem: Biased news?
    Solution: Watch the PBS NewsHour.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

this is what's wrong with fox news:

    http://mwcnews.net/focus/politics/90...of-canada.html

    By Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

As America's middle class battles for its survival on the Wisconsin barricades - against various Koch Oil surrogates and the corporate toadies at Fox News - fans of enlightenment, democracy and justice can take comfort from a significant victory north of the Wisconsin border. Fox News will not be moving into Canada after all! The reason: Canadian regulators announced last week they would reject efforts by Canada's right-wing Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, to repeal a law that forbids lying on broadcast news.

Canada's Radio Act requires that "a licenser may not broadcast ... any false or misleading news." The provision has kept Fox News and right-wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage, including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the "Fairness Doctrine" in 1987.

Political dialogue in Canada is marked by civility, modesty, honesty, collegiality, and idealism that have pretty much disappeared on the US airwaves. When Stephen Harper moved to abolish the anti-lying provision of the Radio Act, Canadians rose up to oppose him fearing that their tradition of honest non-partisan news would be replaced by the toxic, overtly partisan, biased and dishonest news coverage familiar to American citizens who listen to Fox News and talk radio. Harper's proposal was timed to facilitate the launch of a new right-wing network, "Sun TV News" which Canadians call "Fox News North."

Harper, often referred to as "George W. Bush's Mini Me," is known for having mounted a Bush-like war on government scientists, data collectors, transparency, and enlightenment in general. He is a wizard of all the familiar tools of demagoguery; false patriotism, bigotry, fear, selfishness and belligerent religiosity.

Harper's attempts to make lying legal on Canadian television are a stark admission that right-wing political ideology can only dominate national debate through dishonest propaganda. Since corporate profit-taking is not an attractive vessel for populism, a political party or broadcast network that makes itself the tool of corporate and financial elites must lie to make its agenda popular with the public.

In the Unites States, Fox News and talk radio, the sock puppets of billionaires and corporate robber barons, have become the masters of propaganda and distortion on the public airwaves. Fox News' notoriously biased and dishonest coverage of the Wisconsin's protests is a prime example of the brand of news coverage Canada has smartly avoided.

Note: this article is crap but I have yet to find one that isn't people point and laughing at faux

Yo, fags, stop talking about Fox News. This is bigger than Fox; it applies to all news channels on tv in America. No. Fox is not the extreme of the problem. Fox has it's own problems aside from what i already detailed.

Wana talk about how lame fox is? Go make a thread somewhere else.

The bigger issue is that the Secretary of State is endorsing news sources that have a bias or a tainted outlook towards Israel/Western Euro nations/US in a bad manner.

I personally watch Al Jazeera News, Fox, and Russia Times as well as major libertarian or Austrian economic blogs. There is a significant bias against American and Israel in Al Jazeera and RT, however, there is a lot of truth in their stories and shows. It's weird having the Secretary of State telling Americans to listen to these sources.

One would think (puts on tin foil hat) that our government leaders would want the American public to be confused on what news to listen to. Confusing the masses on what news source to listen to can obfuscate certain stories. At this moment, there is a big push by US/EU to invade Libya. Many of these dictators who were propped up by West (see Egypt/US, Libya/Italy, etc) are falling one by one. Looking at it from a macroscopic point of view, I would have to say that instability and a movement towards a new middle East front against Iran with newly imposed dictators as a globalist goal.

Also, as the prices of oil starts to move higher our dollar weakens and the big oil elite can start tapping into the giant reserves on US Soil. The requirements of this are an upside down Middle East, a collapsed dollar and a distraught EU. Once again, how do we get there? We have to cause massive panic/war/distrust in the middle East. How do you do this? You need to have military forces under NATO/US to invade certain middle East nations. How do you do this? You incite the western nation population. How do you incite the population? You feed them live news of rioting people being attacked by their own military. How do people see this type of news if they only watch CNN/MSNBC? You tell them to watch Al Jazeera.

That's my guess on the situation.

I particularly hate Fox News, but I think they majorly enable the problem; I don't think they are the root.

The root is corporate America. These guys know lying and riling up masses will get them two important things - ratings and money. If anyone really thinks the idiots on Fox News or any network truly cares about what they are reporting, they deserve to be lied to.

The root of the problem definitely lies in the fact that we allow news networks to say whatever they want to get attention in the name of "free speech and business". If anyone argues that the news to be regulated, people will cry that the government is trying to silence the news (instead of admitting they're getting out of hand). If anyone argues that the news is biased, they're called a traitor to the country. If anyone argues that the news is inciting hate, they're told that people make their own choices and that the media is just giving people the truth.

These clowns on TV know exactly what it is that they are doing, and as long as they continue to be allowed to spew their idiocy on any network, be it CNN, Fox, NBC, or whoever, this will continue to get worse.

I remember when my family used to sit down and watch the news and all you heard was the news. Now all you hear is juicy gossip followed by "Is Britney Spears a bad role model for children!?"

Who fucking cares?! That's what MTVNews and E! are for.

The fucking people in America are just letting this "freedom of ___" get too far out of fucking hand. With freedom comes responsibility, and no one is making them take it up.

Harper's crew have also done a pretty decent job of the economic recovery thus far. Nobody knows what the hell he's thinking with regards to the Census bullshit, but so long as the Liberals keep offering cheese sandwiches to vote on, Harper is kind of what we have to put up with. (As for the proroguing parliament, the PM is allowed to call on the GovGeneral to temporarily close parliament. The GovGeneral, as the Queen's representative, has a right to shut the fuck up and sign the dotted line like modern royalty, not raise a constitutional crisis in the 21st century.)

I don't know if you were intentionally channeling Glenn Beck here (the tin foil comment) or if it's just me picturing a mad man frantically drawing all this stuff out on a whiteboard in a convoluted mess of arrows.

They can safely promote Al Jazeera which displays images of peaceful protests all over the world, while the corporate media here runs a practical blackout/smear campaign against the inspired peaceful struggle of workers here in America.

Yes, every station has their biases, but then judge each one on that understood standard. Al Jazeera is a whole lot better than the garbage on the MSM.
