Eh, it's not all that surprising to me really. Korra was going all drooly fangirl at Mako the moment she saw him. Overall I think is is just to appease the fangirls crying out for Zutaran steam babies.

Supposedly the first 2 episodes are available for free on itunes right now. Can't confirm for myself, though.

A lot of people have been saying this is 'making up for the no-go with Zutara of the first series' to which I just shake my head. Mako's not Zuko. Korra's not Katara. Katara and Zuko were.. to me, the exact opposites which is why they wanted the 'opposites attract' bullshit.

Mako and Korra are really similar, whether it's their fiery personalities (pun intended), to their love of firebending.. know what I'm saying? Katara was passionate, and fiery.. but the most interest she ever showed Zuko was in Southern Raiders after he helped her avenger her mother, Lol. Everyone's like BUT THEY HUGGED.

Katara hugged a lot of people. Deal with it, creepers.

So yeah. Long story short.. if Makorra's what it turns out to be (that's Korra x Mako) then whatever. I'm sure we'll get some twists and turns in there just to make it interesting, but I don't really care about shipping. I ship Tenzin and his wife anyway! They're adorable.

This definitely isn't a 'make up' for Zutara, though. That's just dumb. (Not calling you dumb, mind you, just the general idea and the fanbase who created that mess.)

Also, I don't think she was drooly over Mako himself. She had the typical reaction of a girl from the Water Tribe when they got out (see Katara to Jet in S1).. though even past that, she was more in love with the sport than she was the guy at the time, Haha. Just my opinion of course!

I get the Zutara thing, and yet I don't. It is definitely true that they were opposites in every way, though.

For example, I was much fonder of Zuko by the end of the series than I was of Katara. Even though Zuko was infuriatingly angsty and self-destructive through most of the series, he got more complex and interesting by the end. Katara, though, started out as the more level-headed foil for Sokka, but gradually evolved into this awful bossy bitch who could not be wrenched off her soapbox by anything. She de-evolved into a one-dimensional character even as Zuko was evolving into a three-dimensional character.

I guess you could say they kind of deserved each other, since they were both the type of character who can drive someone to suicide with their separate approaches to problems. I can also see why Zutara would be popular because the chemistry between Aang and Katara wasn't apparent, but at least Katara and Zuko were at odds enough that they showed some kind of chemistry, even if it was a negative kind.

I'm a little worried since Korra is already showing that kind of rigid soapboxy morality that I didn't like about Katara. I really hope the story takes a direction where she is forced to see in shades of grey rather than black and white. Mako seems okay, but I'm pretty sure he's going to be at least halfway as angsty as Zuko was. Shows about teenagers always need the token angsty character.

OOC, what makes you say that?

I find her completely interesting. She knows she's the avatar, knows she's good at it, but knows she's not good at airbending.

Frustrated, excited, looking to help solve problems. She bullheaded against airbending at first but started picking up a completely new system in order to learn it.

Just kinda confused at what you mean really.

Completely disagree about Korra. She's not rigid/soapboxy at all. Hell, she disobeyed Tenzin directly and went to Pro-Bending, Lol. She sucks at air bending, knows she sucks, gets frustrated like anyone who's 17 would.. and yeah. It's been two eps. Not enough to judge her just yet.

As for Katara, yeah. She did go backwards it seemed, but I blame it mostly on the circumstances. As for chemistry between her and Aang.. I saw it there. It's just again.. circumstances (the whole Ozai wanting to take over the world), sort of threw a wrench into it, so a lot of things got sped up. That's why it sucks the series ended with the kiss and we didn't see stuff past it. Granted the comic out there is going to expand upon that.. but I don't have high hopes for it. We'll see.

Basically, the Zuko/Katara thing was a lot like the Twihard bullshit. The whole shipping war between Katara/Aang, and Zuko/Katara was just that. Do you want the 'good guy' or the 'bad boy bad guy' .. and you know how teenage girls are, Lol. Aang was too 'boring' of a character, or too 'little-brotherly'.. which if anyone really thought that, they didn't watch the series close enough.

I liked Zuko by the end, because he grew as a character. Katara was more of a lateral growth with some dipping at the end, and Aang definitely grew. I'm still fine with how it ended up. Plus people keep forgetting Mai. She's an awesome character ffs!

I must be forgetting Mai, I can't even think of who you're talking about lol.

@Airenn: I say that about Korra already because her view of how the world should be is skewed. She went to Republic City thinking it would be all sunshine and roses. When it wasn't, she took it upon herself to 'fix' the situation and the people involved, like Katara did every time there was something she didn't agree with. She already seems to have a rigid definition of how people should think and behave (open-minded and accepting of everyone) and seems to get confused when that isn't the case. I'm not saying she is going to be like Katara, I just think her character has the potential to go in that direction and I'm afraid of that. D:

Mai was Zuko's miserable girlfriend, personally i didn't care for her at all.

I didn't really care who Katara ended up with but I agree with the no chemistry thing between her and Aang. The best females on that show imo were Ty Lee and Toph anyway.

And Azula, prior to her mental breakdown.

What can I say? She had a certain sex appeal.

@Akyama: Never said I was Zutaran and personally I don't really like shipping all that much. I just thought it was a funny coincidence that they paired her with the firebender of the new group.

It's one of the things I like about Korra is that she's the opposite of Aang which has been pointed out many times. Unlike the last series, where Aang had to learn to be more direct, combative, and forceful, Korra needs to learn how to be more patient, spiritual, and diplomatic. Hell, day one in the city she learned that beating up bad guys with no concern for collateral damage wasn't going to fly just because she's the Avatar.

Oh right, that Mai. I forgot that was her name. Except for being emo, she was actually kinda funny and she definitely had her moments.
But I agree that Toph and Ty Lee/Tai Lee/Ty Li or however it's spelled were the best females on the show. Oh, and Sokka's girlfriend-who-is-the-moon was pretty awesome too.

I really hope we get a couple more strong/interesting girls in the new series, though Korra herself is pretty fucking badass already. Guess the next girl we're likely to see will be soft and gentle.

Mai was my favorite girl in the series with Toph and Suki coming in a close second and third.

Tai-Lee was way too clean cut of a fan service character in my opinion.

@silenka Gotcha. Well, let's watch moar and then see. :D

I disliked Mai, ugh. Moments of funny lol, but I hated her personality.

Toph was seriously the best along with Ty Lee.

I was a fan of Mai's straight-forward personality. I felt like she did perfectly to kind of even-out Zuko's hyperactive HONORRRRR personality. A shame he didn't listen to her the whole series until the very end. That's generally why people put Zuko and Katara in a pair.. they're 'opposites' and they hate Mai, Lol.

To those Mai haters, I say a big "Fuck you" :3

And Katara/Aang not having chemistry? Did we watch the same series? Lol

@Ragnus; Nah bro, I know. Was just pointing it out in my rant. After following the series for as long as I did and the insufferable (at times) fandom when it came to shipping this and that.. it's always easy to go to the "dey didnt have no chemistry and ang was way too young blahblah"

God I hope we get some flashback scenes with Older Aang and what not. :/

Ty Lee* was certainly there for fanservice, but she most certainly had some depth to her as well. Saw that in the beach episode of S3.
