Bolin was fucking hilarious this episode. He almost always is, but he was killing me today.
Even if Tenzin did end up getting subdued eventually, I friggen loved the animation on him when he was fighting this episode. So awesome!
Is there a legal link to watch this online yet? Netflix/iTunes/Hulu etc?
So watch it be that Asami's dad sponsored the Fire ferrets so he could rig the game with the wombats, and he's behind the scenes framing cabbage corp so his company becomes the leading tech center of republic city
I thought with giant robots surrounding them, Tenzen and Lin being knocked out that they were about to give her the first avatar state moment. Still fucking awesome and Asami's power glove moment was great.
Who needs the air scooter when you can have an air WHEEL?
Eh, it was cool to see some air bending, but he was prett darn useless in the fight. I really want to see korra use some air bending in her martial arts, she seems more suited to using bending for combat then tenzin.
Benders are useless. For no reason really. Tenzin had potential and it started out cool but again was beaten quite handily by Equalists. I don't think we'll see Korra's avatar state til she learns spiritual aspects of bending, which she apparently lacks.
Thing is since the war is over, battle ready bending is not as prominent, and is now reduced to a sport. So I can easily see any great master bender in this age having issues when going up against the equalists in a real fight. This is why its good that the new avatar is a brawler like Korra. The series mimics history very well and is doing a great job.
can i get a link to the most recent episode? completely blanked on seeing it
Platinum Robots man. Must have been expensive...
Don't think we were talking about the most recent ep, more like every other time we see benders go against equalists. In fact the only time I think I ever saw benders put the whoop ass on equalists was when they raided the training ground (can I even count that?), and only half of the fight at the pro bending arena.
Sure they aren't as used to fighting with bending, but I always took bending as a type of martial arts, so I figured they'd be at least a little more adept at using it to fight.
This is true but even in RL learning martial arts as a sport and for real fighting is very different. In the past bending was more often than not seen and used in battle. Now its spread to many other uses, even though higher end techniques are now mastered by many, the actual art of using it to fight has been a bit watered down.
Also this is the first time they have had to deal with this many people specifically trained to counter bending. This is something new and it will take time for them to learn to deal with it. This is exactly the same scenario in Chinese history, seen in a lot of movies when guns started entering the mainland from the west, and upset the balance of power Martial masters had at the time.
The only times the benders actually lose their fights is when the equalist come out with a surprise tactic and a new weapon. I keep hearing it all over about how people complain that Benders seem "weaker" in this series, but that's not really the case. The problem is that benders in the original show were pretty much overpowered (we'll NEVER see firebending on the scale of what we saw in the original show this time around), and in TLoK, every time the benders fight they're out numbered, out geared and out tacticed. Every time a bender loses in this show, outside of mooks, it's because their enemies are coming at them from all angles with surprise attacks.
Lin was tearing the crap out of one mech until the others jumped her from behind. Korra and Tenzin were tossing around their own mech like it was nothing, but again the numbers game caught up to them. They were outnumbered by machines specifically designed to fight them, they never had a chance to win and were never supposed to make it out in the first place.
We've never really seen any of the benders on the offensive except for that one time where they counter attacked after the stadium raid. And in those scenes we saw both Lin and Korra showing they can be pretty badass and pretty powerful when they're not caught off guard and being blind sided.
