Korra is so sexy when she's not being an asshole.

And Kya... What is it about them waterbending chicks?

Right, so my discomfort with Book 2's animation remains. Did anyone else feel like there was a lack of appropriate expression? It felt like the characters' voices portrayed more emotion than their faces did.

And speaking of, Eska and Desna... officially not doing it for me. They're just wooden.

And how the fuck is Unalaq having any contact with Vaatu? The portals were closed and Vaatu's been trapped in the spirit world for the past 10 millennia.

And speaking of non-asshole Korra, just when did she learn to calm the hell down? It's like her and Tenzin suddenly traded attitudes. I realize meeting Wan was an enlightening experience, but it's just not believable that meeting the first Avatar suddenly takes Korra from bitch to chill instantly, there's no progression there.

Finally, them feels for Tenzin. I was all sad for him failing to live up to his father's legacy. Poor guy.

So, I think there are a couple reasons that Korra seems less bitchy now. I think the biggest is that there's no one who is challenging her. All this season, the times we've seen her be impulsive and annoying is when someone wanted her to do something and she wanted to do something else -- Tenzen and her father wanting her to train one way, her wanting to train with Unalaq; her wanting to get an army to attack the south, the president and Mako saying they need to follow procedures; etc. This time, no one is saying anything like "what, evil anti avatar spirit, don't be silly". There's also the fact that Tenzen has been like a father to her, and she feels awful for turning her back on him. You could feel the hurt in the first episode when Tenzen stopped being her teacher and I really liked that scene where she apologizes to him.

    RE: bending

So Unalock entering the spirit world physically = he can bend.

What does this mean for Korra entering it spiritually? Will she be able to bend? Im trying to remember 'the rules' mentioned before about the spirit world and bending

    Spoiler: show
I think this is correct. If you enter as a spirit, you can't bend, but if you physically enter, you can. Aang only ever entered as a spirit during the show (I think), so he couldn't bend. Unalaq and Wan entered with their physical bodies, so they were able to. Korra should not be able to -- the whole "we'll look after your body" makes it sound like she is only entering it with her body.

So this is the show about people who can bend elements right? RIGHT?

The only real bending this episode was the bad guy throwing water around for 10 seconds. Wooooo

Finally got to read the last chapter of The Search (in terrible quality, but still..)
    Spoiler: show

Saw Ursa's identity coming as soon as they introduced the Mother of Faces, but they did a good job wrapping it up. The whole thing with the letter being a fake seemed really strange and unnecessary though. I guess it added an element to the story, but we already knew Ozai was cruel and uncaring. Would have liked to see a better resolution for Azula though. Always felt like she got the short end of the stick, and maybe she'll return in another comic (probably with a new face..), but she didn't really seem to get much out of this one..

And for all the Koh lovers, another mention of him. Although this, and the last episode of Korra should give some confirmation that Vaatu and Koh are not the same.

    RE: Azula.
    Spoiler: show
As I was reading it, I kept getting annoyed that Azula kept fucking shit up...every time she would do something I kept expecting that Aang would appear in his avatar state. Bam. Take away her bending and be done with it.
I understand that taking away someones bending is a very serious matter, but with the crimes Azula committed and the unstable behaviour she was exhibiting....there are few other people in the Avatar world more worthy to have their bending taken away...
....actually now that I think about it. The gang actually were incredibly irresponsible.

Before The search, Azula was locked away and could do little harm. Now she is out and about, unstable as fuck doing god knows what.

Lin's gotta be going along with the whole arresting Mako bit as a ruse to see what's really going on. Otherwise, it's like she just totally forgot everything they all went thru during season one and that he's not the type to be in line with the triads. Nevermind the obvious corrupt pair of cops she works with, lol...

Never even thought about this being a possibility but could be an interesting cliffhanger too. I was already expecting Vaatu to be the "final boss" of the season since clearly Unalaq is being manipulated into releasing him.

This was the first thought I had when I finished the episode. Considering that they already have seasons 3 and 4 confirmed, it could be a possibility

But how would he get access to the other elements? I like the idea I just don't see how it would work yet.

Isn't a spirit needed to switch between elements? So the issue is having a spirit then learning different kinds of bending. I don't see why it wouldn't work with a dark spirit since all avatars need to learn their bending regardless.

I dunno... it all hasn't really been explained. I'm still not convinced about the whole needing a spirit to switch thing. And beyond that, Wan had the ability bent into him by the Lion Turtles and then (presumably) is reincarnated every life because of his connection to Raava. So yes, the Avatar learns the elements, but each Avatar is able to learn to bend the elements because they also has the ability naturally. Just look at Korra (and presumably some of the other Avatars over history) who could bend multiple elements without any training.

Well I wouldn't be convinced unless I saw that origin episode, with that it's kinda hard to deny that a spirit is needed to switch between elements because if a natural ability to bend multiple elements exist the only thing missing is the spirit (or there would be dual element benders, etc). The original benders learned from Lion Turtles so they could exist in the world, but I'm sure the techniques (which they never learned from Lion Turtles) and fine manipulation was taught by their ancestors as Wan controlled the elements with far more finesse than the other benders did generally.

There was nothing to suggest Wan had the ability to learn multiple elements, but he did so because he wanted/needed to, so there's little reason to think that if a dark spirit could merge with a human they could create another avatar. The main issue I see with a dark spirit is that even Raava nearly killed Wan at first so I suspect anything to do with Vaatu won't be as gentle or easy. But still, I can see it happening if there's a person compatible enough with Vaatu (and again, there hasn't been anyone shown who has the motivation/reasons to being the anti-avatar).

Except we see when the Lion Turtle bends the ability to bend water into him, and then he immediately is able to control water. The only one we know he needed Raava for is air, and that's because the Lion Turtle for air wouldn't bend it directly into Wan. I don't know why people can't bend multiple elements. If bending is passed on to one's offspring, it could be explained in the past by the separation between the four nations. Now that there are people like Mako and Bolin who have parents from different nations, I don't know what the explanation is. I do believe Raava is essential to draw out the full potential of the Avatar, but I'm not convinced that had another person traveled from Lion Turtle to Lion Turtle, they would not be able to bend multiple elements as well.

    Edit:
    Spoiler: show
Rewatched the part I was talking about, and we don't see the earth Lion Turtle bend either him or Raava, so that one is ambiguous. At the very least, we know that the Fire and Water Lion Turtles bent the ability to control those elements directly into Wan. And also, that could explain why Raava had to pass through him before he started using earth in the scene that follows.

the Lion Turtles only said that Raava needs to hold the other element until he perfects bending with it, which is why he was training with the dragon. I don't remember it saying she had to hold it permanently. The reason she had to jump in an out of him to switch between elements is to give him access to elements he had not yet perfected. From the sound of it, you can't have more that one element that you haven't perfected or something like that. He didn't have enough time to perfect them all though since he was running out of time, and I suppose that could be why Raava was jumping in and out of him to give him the various powers? Of course, when the two of them merged together, she no longer had to do that.
