Avatar: The Legend of Korra

Sorry but Studio Pierrot animated some of the best fights in the franchise. The idle animation may have been lacking (as it always has from them) but those 60 FPS fights put Mir to shame a few times.

I can't fault the fighting animations in any of the three seasons so far.

My thoughts on the first 3 eps:

This has potential to be really good. However, we're already getting some really annoying characters. The Earth Queen (who, when her aide was describing her, I thought was going to be an actual bear), and Kai (who will obviously be turned around in the end by Jinora + his awful experience as an airbender slave). This whole airbending out of nowhere as well as Bolin & Mako's family out of nowhere is a bit too much 'out of nowhere' for me, but eh, I'll get over it. I am a bit let down that there SHOULD be more spirits in the world if both worlds completely merged, but there seem to hardly be any.

The comedy is really great so far, as usual. I haven't been as wowed with the fights as everyone else seems to be, mainly because they're all pretty brief and there haven't been very high stakes. Looking at those escaped convicts though, I'm SURE we'll be seeing some amazing high-stakes combat soon. And what we have had has been top-notch, animation and choreo-wise. (Amputee waterbender? Wow, I actually just love how this show always manages to include differently-abled characters among its ranks. It would be SO easy for them just to say 'fuck it' and take the easy route on that kind of stuff, but they don't).

Glad to see Pabu is getting a bit more screentime, as he is obviously the best character. Zuko on a motherfucking dragon might be a close second, though.

Anti team avatar looks awesome. Better than Amon or Unaloq.

Comedy is still A+, same for the action. Korra way less annoying, so far...

Regarding villains;

Amon was pretty cool, but fizzled at the very end when you saw his motivations..and the fact that they went back to the Water Tribe again (I guess since the Fire Nation was the big bad in A:TLA) with Unaloq..now he was lame as fuck. Absolutely awful. Terrible dad, terrible all around.

Team Anti-Avatar though.. now they're fucking badass. Plus two females/two males; potential for some great stuff.

Think we ended up with a shitload of Airbenders for the sake of balance. It's a theme central to the show and that huge deficit of Airbenders may have been somehow harmful to the physical/spiritual worlds.

I don't know if 'harmful' is the right way to look at it--seeing as the world got along with only one airbender for over a century. I think it was more the case that Harmonic Convergence came along and the universe was like 'waitaminute, there's something missing here!' And bam, order filled.

On the other hand, I suppose it might create problems for the avatar cycle, maybe? Maybe not.

I was struggling to find the right word and "harmful" was what I settled on, but what I really was trying to communicate is that the Avatar world prefers equilibrium, and that the world would take its first available opportunity to restore that equilibrium by "creating" more airbenders in place of the ones lost.

Then where the shit are all the new waterbenders? There's like a bajillion earth and firebenders, but remember the Southern water tribe was decimated to almost nothing in the first series (boasting ONE waterbender to its name), and the North wasn't exactly Ba Sing Se.

Idk, the north is pretty goddamn big, and the south has been getting rebuilt for the past 70+ years. There may be less waterbenders than firebenders, but its nothing close to the number of airbenders.

This right here. It was only the Southern Tribe that had a shortage of waterbenders, the North's waterbending population was solid, to say nothing of waterbenders (like the swamp dwellers), in other parts of the world.

Waterbenders were never really endangered. Airbenders, on the other hand...

Zuko is mad worried. We get it, and it seems rightly so. But, if he was so worried why didn't he fly his dragon and get Korra to go with him to check on the prisoner and have Korra seal away her bending?

Its not like he doesn't know that the avatar can do that, with his father being the first subject.

Or even better, why weren't the bending powers of these super high power benders sealed by Korra when she first became connected to her avatar state (after Amon)? They'll build super intense prisons but wont send the avatar to do a 5 minute job?

Or can we make the assumption that Avatar Aang never taught her how to do it and that she'll have to learn to do it herself?

Presumably she knows how, since she was able to return Beifong's bending, but maybe she lost the ability after losing access to the other Avatars? She did tell the airbending guy at the start that she couldn't just remove his bending..

It's also possible that Zuko didn't know the details of the Amon thing, just that he was an anti-bending bad guy that Korra defeated.
