Tablet? Does it fit my needs? Other ideas?

I would recommend staying away from ipads or any similar "tablets".

Those are NOT real tablets. I would recommend one of those REAL tablet laptops, that lets you turn the screen and land it on top of the keyboard, and you use a stylus and touch inputs. But, you said you didn't want something that also functioned as a laptop, so ;/

I don't really know at this point. That note taker looks cool, but it's not out yet.

I did some searching on laptop tablets, and I suggest you do the same. Look at prices, read reviews, etc.

etc. (I didn't actually read too much into them, and I personally don't know much about them, so I suggest doing the research)

They also function as a Laptop, and most of them seem to be around the 10inch notebook size. Seems like it would be perfect for school use, so you don't have to bring your superior laptop with you wherever you go. And having real laptop functions >>>> the shitty phone OS's that tablets have. Because really, unless you find a perfect single-use device like that note taker, you're going to end up getting something with more functions, so you may as well go with the one that has real non-bullshit functions.

Love my iPad. I'll take it to a meeting and take notes on it all day, even play slideshows from it. Shit's portable, too.

Do Ipads necessarily come with a wireless carrier or can you get one that only does WiFi?

Use the program Penultimate. It is perfect.

I recommend "A Young Life" brand stylus. You can find them on Amazon.

Went with the basic 16gb wifi Ipad. http://www.youtube.com/NoteTakerHD Use that program currently, will look into Penultimate. I haven't seen a stylus I like yet, the ones I've used make the writing all super shaky looking. Maybe that's just me? Idk.

If you plan on going the ipad route, you should consider picking up a DAGi Stylus. It'll be better than most of the other electrostatic stylus options out there.

Considering Ipad 16gb for $400 with Pogo stylus. I don't like the idea of ipad but galaxy tab 1 is 7" and the tab 2 is gonna be so expensive Xoom looks expensive too.

Any reviews from you guys on ipads?

I had an ipad and pogo stylus, I tried to use it for a day and then gave up. ipad is not meant for handwritten notes

I wouldn't ever use it for class. Doubt tablets will ever be at the level I'd need them to be at to do that before I'm out of college. I'm mainly working on and storing long proofs, general examples of different types of problems, long derivations, and keeping my textbook pdfs on it and shit. So far, even though it took some time, it's nice having some of the work / graphs I've done so easy to look at / read through and knowing that everything is in one place instead of in any one of 20 notebooks really helps.
